  Do Jehovah's Witnesses even know their own teachings...

  i've had a rash of people commenting on my videos lately that seem to not even understand their own teachings.

  it leads me to question if jehovah's witnesses can even explain their own beliefs.

  for example if i ask a question about the 1914 doctrine specifically about the biblical backing behind 607 bce being the year for the destruction of jerusalem, 9 times out of 10 i'm going to get some sort of answer that involves the "prophecy" in matthew 24 and how it somehow has been fufilled since 1914.. apart from the fact i honestly don't think i can find a jehovah's witness who will actually understand the question at hand enough to answer the points therein, i'm to the point where i don't know if jehovah's witnesses even understand their own teachings.

  No. The majority don't. And they don't care. For them, faith in the doctrine is more important and desirable than understanding the doctrine itself.

  When I was in, I was fairly studious. I didn't particularly enjoy keeping up with the regular scheduled study (School/Service Meeting; Bookstudy; Watchtower) although I did anyway. But what I really enjoyed was the personal study. I was always wondering about certain issues or points and wanting to get the "Slaves" clarification on the matter. (It was these habits that led to my exit hehe) So I could explain all the deeper issues fairly well, and i was up on all the "New Light". I wasn't doing anything remarkable, I was doing what was requested of us by the Society.

  But what was amazing was how I was constantly surprised at how several Elders didn't know how to explain even simple things, and how superficial their knoweledge was. Many of them regularly spouted "Old Light" from the platform. I remember one Elder making a huge deal out of how he 'just found out' who/what the "Prince of Persia" is!!! I was thinking... "I knew that when I was 15. WTF?" Another Elder seemed, from hearing him talk, like he had just finished the 'Knoweledge' book and became an unbaptized publisher. And that was about the depth of his knoweledge.

  On my exit, I was also suprised at how I would explain my problems on certain doctrines to brothers and they'd say, "Well I havn't researched that in a while." I could tell they didn't even know the BASIS for the doctrine let alone understand it enough to comprehend the problem I had with it!!!! Ahhh! It was frustrating... They were putting faith in these beliefs simply because the MEN on the GB said so. I even had certain individual tell me "I don't care... I don't need to know the details to believe it."

  And that just highlights my original point... For them, faith in the doctrine is more important and desirable than understanding the doctrine itself.

  I can't do that. That's not how I roll.

  Weird "end of world" convention advert left in my door yesterday.

  it is a single 8.5 x 11 color page that opens with this drivel: how can you survive the end of the world?

  --- you are warmly invited to come and listen to the answer.... there is a typical watchtower picture of zombie-like survivors coming out of a dark armageddon storm cloud with lightning and thunder, and walking into a spring field of sunshine and flowers.. on the back is quoted mark 13:37 - "keep on the watch".

  (said near 2000 years ago, but continuing on) - four bulletins: stay awake as christian families / know that the end is near / imitate jesus' example of watchfulness / keep in expectation, watching for jehovah's day.. at the bottom is a generic invitation to mail in what is a little coupon for a bible study to the local branch office (no local contact information is given) with entries for such places as trinidad/tobago, ghana, nigeria, curacao, etc.

  Awwww... I didn't get one. LOL They know where I live. It's kinda cool to think I'm THAT House, where THAT Apostate lives. ANd how they whisper about me everytime they work my street. Hehe

  keep it simple if possible........i like the ice core samples.........thanks, this was not my big issue but i may be able to use it.......oompa.

  Right you are my friend, AND a minor point our WT buddies forget can be summed up in one simple question: Which is heavier, rock or water? If you drop a rock in water... it sinks. The "flood geology" explanation relies on a reversal of this fact. Any "sciency" sounding hypothesis to rationalize it inevitably leads to the conclusion that God made the earth as a ticking time bomb to eventually destroy everything on it, i.e. he had to set everything up like dominoes to eventually knock it down. And that begs the question, why would God create man and then immediately put a "gun" to his head. (Ummmm because God is evil and violent?) But fortuantely theres no real science behind those fundie explanations for "flood geology" anyway so... yeah.

  Oh! And everyone who's interested in this topic should read the entire page(s) that Hopscotch linked to!!! Great stuff. The WT "responses" are classic.

  Finally got to listen...

  The melodies are sufficiently ummm... "melodious" without being overbearing. But they still have that trademark "JW blandness" which for some reason is so pervasive in everything the org. does. The actual orchestra and accompanying music is beautifully done... it's a shame that it'll be used for such a nefarious purpose.

  But, seriously they should get P. Diddy to do a Bad Boy remix on it or something. Maybe with a guest rapper at the end of one like Ol' Dirty Bastard or Jay-Z. Spice it up.

  since i'm still suffering in this crackerjacks organization, these are some of statements that just drive me nuts.

  1. in service: "we are not here to convert you" funny how jws have the true religion but resort to deception and outright lies in order to get people to listen

  2. to other jws: "we won't have to deal with this in the new system" 7 billion evil doers dead and gone, no longer create problems for us

  Nice job Homeschool... keep it up! I really wish I could "study" with my brother...

  An interesting point I discovered in my own research on "Jehovah"... Not only is that name a mispronunciation of a mistranslation, so the JWs are wrong to be promoting that as "God's Name" (it's not), but you would think that in modern Israel, Jehovah's Witnesses would be called Yahweh's Witnesses... but they're not. The silly dubs take that mispronunciation of a mistranslation and RE-translate it back into modern Hebrew!!! Yep, they're using the modern Hebrew translation of the English rendering of "Jehovah" over there. What an insult. So they've taken the Jews God, westernized/bastardized him, repackaged him, and are now trying to sell him back to the Jewish people under a new label that they don't even recognize!!! No wonder modern Israelis hate the JWs so much.

  Hello id like to intruduce myself

  ive been lurking this site for quite a while but for some reason never could muster up the courage to post.. let me give a little background on my self.. i am 18 and male an still living with my parents.

  i was baptised at 15 basically against my will (by cracking under the pressure) but only truly broke out of the drone like mindswhen i was 17. since then its been totall choas in my life all of it stemming from the orginization of course.

  my parents are the defenition of brainwashed wittnesses, my father even belives he is anointed.. after i got baptised i suffered from intense deppression and with a little soul searching, after a year i realized that i need some time for my self.

  Now now... you people complain but remember they don't want anything that stirs up strong emotions. Nothing that ignites passion.

  I never could stand the Kingom Melodies. Even when I was a true believer. I thought they had their place and all, but I used to look at the people who used to listen to them for "pleasure" as freaks of nature. I'd rather listen to feral cats mating.

  Two things that have been burned into my head... both from the same District Overseer:

  "We should be thankful that we are not required to take up arms in defense of Jehovah's name. However we should be prepared to do so if commanded by Jehovah through the Faithful and Discreet Slave. If Jehovah tells us to go and kill in his name then that's what we must do. I know I can think of a few people I'd like to kill."

  Also by the same DO, referring to Black people (he himself was black): "...we are an ugly race. Perhaps Jehovah will make us right in the new system." ...

  I'm not even black, and I was deeply deeply offended by that. I guess that moron has never heard of Beyonce Knowles, Alicia Keyes, Zoe Saldana, Tyra Banks, Thandie Newton, Angela Basset, Tyson Beckford, Will Smith, etc...

  To be fair, most (if not all) of the dubs I spoke with who also heard these comments were also offended. But still, where was Jehovah's holy spirit to prevent him from making such asinine comments?!?!

  They've already used that quote or a similar one... they used it in that [SARCASM] extremely well researched and honest publication called Life How Did it Get Here - By Evolution or By Creation? [/SARCASM] and it's complete and utter bullsh!t. The sequence of events in Genesis IN NO WAY resembles what we know from science. The very title of that book betrays a complete ignorance of science and what evolution is.

  First of all Genesis says the earth was created before the sun. It even has light appearing before the sun. Another example is that it describes fruit bearing trees as coming before animals, when in fact fruit trees were rather late arrivals (AFTER dinosaurs!) on the scene. These are just a couple of the numerous problems with the Idea that Genesis "got it right" somehow.

  If we are to grant that to Genesis, then we must also say that the Enuma Elish (Babylonian Creation Myth) "got it right" because it shows a similar progression of events. In any case, either myth can be "massaged" "rationalized" and "stretched" to fit a few cherry picked "facts" that have also been "massaged" "rationalized" and "stretched" untill... viola! You've got God revealing the order of creation to the Babylonians, errrr... I mean Hebrews.
