I must agree with the glenster and others who said that people will see the "proof" that they want to see, and continue to believe what they want to believe. However, a comparison of the two positions will show that one is more consistent with the totality of what the scriptures say about the subject, whereas the other requires denial of scripture. For example, the Alpha/Omega First/Last issue in Revelation. The JW position requires the Bible to NOT mean what it says. The same with the doubting Thomas passage, and the numerous OT parallels that the Gospels drew between Yahweh and Jesus.

"Bearing Thorough Witness" p. 35, par. 20--Interesting...
by sd-7 inbearing thorough witness about god's kingdom, page 35, paragraph 20:.
"with a generous spirit like that of faithful disciples in first-century jerusalem, millions of present-day witnesses support the worldwide preaching work by making voluntary donations.
no one is forced to give either his time or his money to support this work.

Good luck getting your friend out sd-7... thats a noble thing. And great comments on that paragraph.
"We're not forcing you to go out in service, but you'll die in armageddon if you don't. And you'll be treated like a second-class witness. And we'll constantly harass you to start going. But we're not forcing you."
Haha... gimmie a break.

Christians explain? Jews never believed in a Trinity even today so how/when did it start?
by Witness 007 injews for thousands of years have believed in their "one god" so i always wondered if in jesus time this was the view, how and when did the trinity start?
did jesus start it off?
are you saying jews were trinitarian?

The Trinity doctrine is not an explicit scriptural teaching, but rather an implicit. Meaning that although it is not specifically taught in scripture, it is an attempt to make sense of all of the various things in scripture that have been said regarding the natures of God and Jesus. But even as far back as the early second century (in the writings of Ignatius) it can be seen that the doctrine was taking form in that the church fathers considered Jesus to be God in human flesh. Folding the Holy Spirit into the mix came a bit later, however. So even before the fomous "Nicean Creed" was formulated in 325, God and Jesus being one was already a widely held idea. I'm no expert but thats what I recall...
But it seems to me that it's sorta like arguing over what color Santa Claus' underpants are.

Mouthy...
You said: "I am considered evil by the WT"
The very fact that you can make that statement, and mean it, shows just how EVIL they are. You are probably the sweetest person on this board. They have just cause to call ME evil (although I still don't buy it lol) as I represent everthing that they stand against (big scary secular humanist), but you represent simply a slightly different (and more coherent, less mind-controlled) view of Christianity.
Just remember that the majority of sane people oon this earth, regardless of philosophical background, would regard them as evil for judging you as such.
Let no one tell you different.
Take care.

Yes thank you for the posts Blondie, and I hope all is well with you.
Oh yes, I also meant to say that I found the picture interesting of the brother studying. Caption: "The Bible is like a treasure map guiding us to the riches "carefully concealed" in Christ." If the Bible is the treasure map, why does the dude have like 5 other books out that he's reading? Is the treasure map that confusing? Does he need a treasure map to the treasure map?

Documentary About The Flood and Noah's Ark
by Blue Grass inabout a week or two ago i watched a documentary about the flood in noah's day entitled "in search of noah's ark".
two things i found very interesting in this program is a theory that one person had about how they believed the flood was caused due to a meteor hitting the ocean creating a tsunami that flooded the entire earth.
scientist were unanimous in their view that this is a very plausible scenario and that there is no way to rule this possibility out.

Ah yes... and then there's the other famous creationist tactic of running and hiding from a thread when one knows his ass has been handed to him.

Para. 2 - "And with the treasures of God given wisdom, knoweledge, and discernment, we will be able to deal successfully with problems and issues in our daily life."
What this really says to the average JW is, "If you're unhappy, you're not doing it right. You are failing. There is something wrong with you." No wonder so many of them are self-conscious wrecks on anti-depressants.
Para. 6 - "Worldly philosophy, including secular humanism and the theory of evolution, shapes peoples thinking morals and lifestyle."
Yes... thanks to secular humanism (and utilitarianism), I now care MORE about my life choices, and I'm genuinely interested in the welfare of my fellow humans instead of how much "time" I can wring out of them. In short... I am now more moral than I was when I was a JW. But I'll admit that my standard of morality is arbitrary, much as theirs is. If they judge me as deficiant by their standards, that's fine. They are deficiant by mine. The difference is, my morality is based on observation, reason, and empathy. They are only moral becasue their Big Book of Multiple Choice tells them to be.
To the WT I ask: Why be good when you can just be forgiven?
And evolution is not a "philosophy". It's science. Do you know anyone who bases their morals and lifestyle on the theory of gravitation? Or how about string theory? Or the theory of relativity? Or quantum theory? Science is amoral. It simply is.
Para. 14 - "Throughout the Bible, sheep played a notable role in the remission of sin and approach to God."
A "notable" role? Yeah, if you consider getting your throat slit and your entrails strung out and burnt because the anthropomorphic nostrils of Jehovah loved the smell, "notable". Sheep were "notable" for the fact that Jehovah seemed to sadistically enjoy seeing thousands upon thousands of them slaughtered senselessly, for no reason other than because he wanted it that way. Sick. I mean... I'm no PETA whackjob, but come on.
Wow... I tried to read the whole article but it's so mind-numbingly dry and meaningless. Ugh... I'm so glad I don't have to sit through that crap for an hour on sunday anymore.

Were You Always Feeling Guilty As A Witness?
by minimus ini think the religion works on guilt.
everyone is made to feel they're not good enough some how or perhaps they practice a "secret sin" and it gnaws at them.
so they decide to pioneer or "do more", recognizing they can never really make up for whatever shortcomings they have.. were you a guilt ridden jw?
-
darkl1ght3r
Yep, as a witness, I always felt weighed down, down trodden. Like I wasn't good enough. I'm fine now. :)

Billy... zOMG! Are those actual photos? Wow... I was completely wrong. I wonder if even Perry is aware of this evidence. That's even more convincing than his dino artifacts. Praise Jaws.
Singing: "Jesus loves the little diiiiinos. All the dinos of the wooooorrrld."
