  Is Bald Beautiful?

  after i got a haircut recently, a look in the mirror revealed a little too much recession of my hairline for comfort.

  i saw that 'horseshoe' shape atop my head.

  so, while i was away, i got my head buzzed.

  My wife just showed me the kit she bought today - buzz clipper, assorted attachements for length, even a little brush for my neck. Looks like I'm committed to this look.

  Why do JW's allow wedding rings?

  recently we had a post where a non-jw asked what to expect at his jw's wedding.

  he was told not to expect certain things that have a pagan background such as rice-tossing or the bride throwing a corset to the virgins unmarried girls at the reception.. but somehow wedding rings are allowed at jw weddings!.

  any idea why?.

  Blondie, good research. To me, from what I see, the wedding ring origin and use is very similar to that of many other things, like saying 'bless you', throwing rice, or ceratin holiday commemorations, that also may have pagan origin.

  I do soemtimes speculate personally that there may be a somewhat ulterior motive involved here - if the WTS were to say, in effect, 'no rings' then I wonder if some betrayed spouse somewhere would hold them indirectly repsonsible a commited adultery. That's a big stretch, quite a reach, but who knows? I am just suspicious because they seem to single out wedding bands as okay while condemning so many other common practices, that, by the way, certainly do not make people think back to ancient pagan rituals. "Bless you" said these days, for example, does not carry the same meaning to the speaker or hearer as it did so long ago. Today, it's mainly just a way of being polite, from what I can tell.

  met a jw today

  i happened to meet a young 'sister' from my old congregation today whilst out shopping.i think she is about eighteen now.. we exchanged pleasantries and i asked her how everyone was.

  this was a general fish for info on anyone or anything i suppose.

  her response really saddened me.. she told me that all in her immediate family were fine.

  bay, if indeed that young sister, after parting company with you, thanked Jehovah that she was not like you, it simply puts her in company with the Pharisee who thanked God that "he was not like the rest". Of course, she may not have thought that at all, but when one is pioneering or very active as a jw, making comparisons to others becomes very ingrained in many cases. They even begin, as I am sure you know, to compare themselves with other jws who are not as active or "spiritually minded" as they are.

  GG - I am not surprised at all that no one has come to see your hubby. It's sad, and, unfortunately, typical. i hope things work out and he is back to good health soon!

  Do You Forget to Reference JWD in Emails?

  i don't know about you, but i get a fair amount of emails.

  unless i recognize the name or email address, or unless there is a reference to jwd (at least until i learn to recognize the sender) i delete them.

  there are just too many viruses out in la la land, and although i did "take a chance" in the past and open a couple, if it has an attachment, i won't open it.

  Hi Karen

  I always try to remember to identify myself and the board in my subject heading. I seldom get e-mails from people I don't know, but with all the virus crap going around, it's a good reminder to at least mention JWD in the subject heading.

  Nilfun, my wife digs Connery too. She loved him in "Entrapment". Gals do seem to dig that old dude.

  I worked with a woman who said she loved Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). Loved the bald head. I couldn't understand it at the time, but that was nearly 10 years ago, when I still had a decent top crop. Now, I am encouraged when a woman says that bald (or buzzed......anything but the dreaded comb-over) is sexy or cute. The responses on this thread are makin' my day.

  Hi Dede, yes, WT carries the bald look well from what I have seen. I saw his pic a short time ago. It seems like the general consensus here thus far is that buzzed/bald or longer hair looks good...... but say nay to comb-overs.
