This thread brings up one of my main problems with Christianity. I believe it encourages delusional behavior and psychologically unhealthy ways of thinking. Lets just encourage people who hear voices by planting the idea that maybe the voice they’re hearing comes from a magical being who lives in the sky. Encouraging schizophrenic behavior is not morally ethical and it‘s also very dangerous. I believe this is what Billy was trying to avoid doing. |

It reminded me of a scripture, which of course now I cant find, about being freed from the hand of the bird catcher.

Inkie, Im not saying I hear nothing, Im saying its not a voice in my head, but a voice , or inner conviction in my heart, its this voice thats speaks to me regularly that I know is the holy spirit, from my heart then to my mind.Thats the best I can explain it. I think when non Christians hear Christians say God spoke to them and said such & such, they are picturing an audible giant voice come down from the sky. Im just saying its not like that for me and I think that maybe that is was what Billy was trying to say.

The Truth stands on its own- WTBS or NO WTBS!
by theMadJW inyes, the wtbs has done much deserving ridicule- yet does far more deserving credit and respect.. but this is not about them, but the truth about god and christ they have made known, by showing it to all in the scriptures.
because of this work, most know that god(s) is not the ultimate sadist bbqing billions in a mythical 'hellfire' anymore, etc!.
this topic is at the request of little bird- is it possible to have a peaceful discussion here- without all the self-righteous psychobabble from so many?.

Satan- Perfect Scapegoat for Witnesses Ignoring Real Causes of Situations
by flipper inin a recent thread i started on music i couldn't help noticing how many had to throw their alleged " worldly music " out because parents, or elders told them their music brought them " under the influence of demons ", or listening to music was how " the demons got inside us ".
this superstitious belief that " satan " is to blame for each witnesses demise is really a passing of the buck of responsibility so it sidesteps real issues involved.. for example : check these familiar expressions out we all heard while we were jehovah's witnesses .. .
1. if a person was stumbled and said, " i don't want to go to meetings anymore.

Its funny you bumped this up, flipper. Just the other day I got sick of hearing my soon to be ex, blaming Satan for all our problems, so I piped up and said. " You people give Satan more attention then actual Satan worshippers do!"
Jws (some of them) act as if Satan is omnipresent or something, they just don't want to take personal responsibility for anything.

Do JW's (and uppity-christians in general) walk around with a false sense of accomplishment?
by Joliette ini ask this because so many times when i was growing up, i was told that a certain sister or brother wasnt spirtually enough because of this or that.
i wanted to ask the person who said this: what makes you so spiritual, especially since you do the same thing that the so called unspirtually person does.
except you do it behind closed doors..

I do think they act with a false sense of accomplishment because they are , as some other groups are too, are what is called "works" based. They think if they perform X, Y, Z then they are somehow in better standing with God than a person who does not follow the rules set out by their group. Works based groups give people the feeling of superiority above others, hence, you get the uppity attitudes.
