8 miles ... about 45 minutes on a typical weekday morning.
If you were in really good shape you could run it in that amount of time. What horrible traffic!
Mine it about 25 minutes each way...

i have come to this site for almost a decade.
even though i do not stop by much anymore, i wonder why it has not been upgraded or changed to a more modern format.
it seems like it has basically just been left to what it was upgraded to several years ago.
I think we could all be satisfied with whatever format as long as it functioned well. The current one needs an upgrade to work properly with all current Internet browsers and whatnot. Glad things are in the works!
so my parents cannot answer my question and are pretty much pushing me to go to the elders for an answer so i'd like to know what the best questions to ask an elder are.my first question is going to be the mediator one..and if he tells me it's the 144,000 or the anointed, i'll ask him to show me where it says that in the bible.what are some other tough questions for an elder to answer?assuming we can get past the mediator one of course.i'm going to hold off on asking about new light or 607... also, has anyone ever asked about how satan can cause wwi in july if he wasn't expelled from heaven until christ became king in october?i haven't gotten much of an answer to that either..
Draw their attention slowly and carefully to the difference between provable facts and unprovable beliefs. Contrast things like "Does the Earth Rotate about the Sun" or "The Pythagorean Theorem" with things like "the Bible is the one true word of God" and "Mohammed is God's true prophet". This must be carefully done, as silly as it may seem. They will likely try to counter with "proofs" from the Bible, but note that Muslims would counter with proofs from the Qu'ran, Hindus from the Veda, and every other religion from their own particular sources (not to mention different groups interpretations). Note how this is different from scientifically determined facts. Once it is shown, it cannot help but to quickly proliferate and be acknowledged by all, even if there is initial resistance. This will probably go back and forth a bit, but ultimately anyone would have to acknowledge their religious beliefs require faith. If they didn't they would become acknowledged. And this is the opposite of what has happened in religious history.
Once this has been established, it is fair to say that you have beliefs that happen to differ from the elders beliefs. Because these are unprovable, we just have to operate with them as best as we can, and not judge one another's beliefs. Insist that you may or may not agree with him, but you will not judge him for his unprovable beliefs and you don't intend on being judged on yours.

Whats to stop anyone walking in to a congregation they are not known during the memorial, and partake. They could give a bulldust name and say they are out of town. It would be hilarious.
Like was said they will not count you. If you show up and say you're from out of town and are an annointed member from another congregation, they will ask for your name and congregation and verify with them before you would be counted.
i've been out for a few years now, but when i was in, we frequently had to purchase "vehicle parking passes" several weeks before the start of our district assembly (depending on the coliseum or stadium being rented at the time).
it was usually $5.00 and you were given a 10" x 4" (or so) card with the assembly title/theme printed on.
according to the instructions from a branch letter that was read out loud (usually at the end of the service meeting), this card had to be placed on the right side of your dashboard such that the dub parking attendants can easily see it as you drive through the parking entrance.
Sometimes if you're using a municipal lot or something, they'll do this arrangment, cutting a deal with the parking garage for an 'assembly rate' which is actually below the usually posted rate. So there may be cases where there is legit payment for parking.

Hey, I was just wondering. I read something from an apologist that said part of the reason for the increase is that they have documented apostates coming to the memorial and partaking. Could that be the reason for the increase? But would they really include that person in the numbers when reporting? Also, I personally don't think that WTS is lying about the figures since the numbers are going up. Mistakes are possible though. Thoughts?
False, they do not report partakers unless they meet with the person, prayerfully discuss why they were partaking, and determine if it is legitimate or not. That means they would never count an apostate partaker. Nor would they count someone who was just old and confused, someone who was homeless off the street, or a bible study who is just a bit 'confused'.
so i've been cleaning out my house of theocratic stuff, but its still fun to look through everything and see how life was.
i looked through my study copies of bookstudy books and can pick the year based on the bands, sports players, songs, etc that are scribbled in the margins out of boredom.
also i laughed at how bored i must have been.
To be fair, I think this list is more ridiculous than usual even lol. There are ways to be an educated sounding creationist. I mean you can cite facts and probabilities about amino acid creation and things like that, which at least sounds good, leaving the inaccuracies to be disguised under biological or mathematical theories that most people don't know.

Another apparently I tried to list every meal I had eaten that week. Sad.
Anyway, I found this sheet of paper in my service bag of notes from a talk on evolution vs. creation. It was when I was mentally all gone but still trapped there. Mostly I did other things but I took notes on this one because, well, you'll see the absurdity. Here are my notes, which were taken directly from the speaker: See if you can find a logical contradiction in any of his points lol.
* Punctuated evolution = major changes occurring almost "overnight"
* There are little facts to back up evolution
* For 6000 years, man believed in creation. Then in the last 160 years man has switched -- this makes it obvious evolution is a teaching of Satan
* Its simply easier to believe in the Bible's account
* It takes blind faith to belive in evolution -- which is destructive
* Adams lineage does not include "son of cave man, son of ape man, son of ape" so clearly that can't be correct
* Evolution promotes animalistic behavior of guilt-free taking advantage of other groups of humans
* We don't observe punctuated equilibrium happening
FLAWS OF EVOLUTION
1: It doesn't answer why we are here
2: Why are our brains so large?
3: Why would we lose our fur and be slower than other animals?
4: Darwin predicted man would adapt to perfection but here we are, in our worst shape ever
* Love doesn't fit into evolutionary model because babies that are nurtured grow up better
* Why would God create something not perfect that would have to adapt?
* Evolution offers no hope and just creates a society of people acting like animals dressed up in clothes but being rude and unjust to each other.
here are some sample expressions i found on-line.
my spouse is not abusive, mean, a bad person, an adulterer or any of those other labels.
my spouse refuses to grow up.
I believe married people should put forth effort to fix mere 'unhappiness' as much as they can. They were happy once, why can't they be again. Of course, its possible that happiness no longer seems possible after sustained effort from both parties. So then, you have to do what you have to do to be happy again.
I also believe this goes double for married people with children. Once there are children, THEIR happiness should be your new #1 priority and divorce adversely effects this. Of course, still if it becomes clear that being together is toxic, then divorce is still warranted over 'unhappiness.'

Three more fun stats:
* We are now UP 48% from the all time low in 2005
* This is the highest # of partakers in exactly FIFTY years (there were 12714 in 1962)
* In the history of memorial partakers from WW1 on, there has never been a decade in which the %decrease was as severe as the %increase over the last decade. Between 2002 and 2012 we've increased 44%. The biggest decade of decrease was from 1945 to 1955 (down 42%).
