  first, i don't know if we have had a thread on this yet - so if this is a repost, ignore appropriately.. but i am thoroughly disgusted by this developing scandal - an assistant coach at pen state is accused of multiple, repeated, child sexual offenses.

  a member of the football staff exewitnesses and incident reported it to paterno (years ago, it is reported) - and paterno reported it to the athletic director.

  nothing was done, nothing was reported to the authorities.. finally, the scandal broke over the weekend.. i am deeply dissapointed with paterno - this guy was one of my football heros.

  Just got home from the meeting, and I love all of you at JWN, but I have to say something. I know there's plenty of focus on the pedophilia end of things, and rightfully so. Sadfully so as welll, but there's something bigger here, and that's power. Do you realize that a DA, as in District Attorney possibly was murdered so that Penn State could cover up this scandal? That's worst case scenario, and best case scenario is that the DA committed suicide because he realized the gravity of the case that he was getting ready to explore for potential prosecution. Guys and Gals, we're talking about a legendary assistant coach hiding in the shadow of a legendary head coarch, acting as the proprieter of a pedophila prostitution ring masquerading as a social program for underprivileged youths, with customers masquerading as donators to a social program which was masquarading as a social program all the while hiding an underaged prostitution ring. A District Attorney possibly put 2 and 2 together, but either committed suicide upon realizing the gravity of the case he was getting ready to expose, or was murdered by powerful pedophiles who'd be willing to kill in order to protect their reputations. This case, has only begun.

  I'd say 2 things: A lot of this stuff is speculative at this point so we should just calm down and not get too ahead of ourselves.

  2nd: The body was never found, so that would be one fascinating suicide!

  But it will be intersting. HOpefully the story doesn't just dead end before anything can come out.

  In light of what is going on at PSU, is the above statement legally wrong?

  I don't think so. The rules are different for federally funded institutions like schools and universities and for religious institutions which have major boundaries from the state.

  this happened on sports talk radio 680 am out of san fransisco ( the s.f.

  giants / 49ers station ) .

  Call screeners are sifting calls so that the discussion on air goes in specific directions. Maybe thats not the direction they wanted to go. Also they probably go on the first description and don't want to negotiate. I don't know... I don't see it as a big deal. Its their show, they can talk about what they want to talk about, no?

  note the person spreading the rumor wrote most of what we are just now finding in the linked article in April so he has been months ahead of this story and ignored.

  Frankly I don't understand how such things could possibly even come into discussion with these high powered donors. I'll believe it only with more evidence because now I dont even want to believe it could be true.

  There is absolutely more to this cover up. Multiple powerful people knew A LOT about how horrible this man was for many years.

  Paterno is old and senile. You can't expect him to be thinking clearly.

  He's not too senile to be taking over $1 M a year to coach. He's not too senile to give out a very lucid and strategic press release in an obvious power play to end things on his own terms instead of being released immediately. Don't fool yourself.

  Apprently he was waslked in on two different times. The grand jury reports that one person saw the boy being sodomized, another oral sex. The Janitor who saw things is now in a nursing home and has dimentia so nothign can be done to him now either way.

  The WR coach also saw things and has some major culpability as does Paterno for not taking immediate and decisive action instead of passing the buck and washing your hands. They should all be gone.

  What really ended the book study in private homes?

  it's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.

  although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...

  but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?

  I doubt anything on that list had anything to do with it (except the liability of injuries, thats possible).

  I really think they saw people getting so lethargic and felt people would be much less likely to leave if they made a major reduction. It kind of placated all those members who were on the fence and burned out and ready to abandon ship. It basically gave everyone a boost of energy. I think thats pretty much the real reason.

  i know a lot of strange healings and such occur but why should it happen to one person and not another?

  makes me doubt that real miracles exist... praying for someone..why should one person be prayed for and survive and another one prays and doesn't survive..is god choosey?.

  on sundays study we were always told to keep answers brief and from the paragraph as some brothers would add "other meterial" to their comments.

  the "correct" answer is right there in the paragraph.

  read question --------find answer in paragraph------underline/highlight------read related {not] scripture-----raise hand---give answer from paragraph as though it's your own thought.

  Absolutely. People will recite anything in the paragraphs even if they don't actually believe them. Its pretty amazing when you step back and observe.
