A person can have morals, but without God, they are just of their own making and desire, a pick and choose type of thing. Why would someone want to have morals or at least act moral towards others? Self-protection, as in if I do this or that others will not bother me, fear of jail or some other punishment? Without God there are no absolutes, so I would think survival of the strong and smart would rule. They would take what they want, when they want, how they want and only apply morals when someone tried to do the same to them. Is this not what the sinful nature is all about, me first.

What scriptures do the JW's use to justify going door to door? Is it a requirement, or just encouraged? Are the scriptures they use taken out-of-context? I had read somewhere that a study was done in Canada about JW's going door to door and only 1% of people who joined JW's were from going door to door, the rest were friends and family. The average number of hours was something like 50 full-time JW's going out 40hrs a week for a full year. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

I spoke to Ray Franz for the first time today
by recovering ini have been feeling very blue and hopeless lately.
i miss my family and needed some affirmation that i am right in my characterization of the jws.
i called ray to hear it from the someone in the know, as to what really goes on in the gb meetings and if they really believe what they say.

Why I could not be a JW
by littlebuddy ini could not be a jw because of the following.
i am very weary of churches, org,etc that are so controlled, with little freedom of thought that any expression of difference and one could be on the way out.
also i feel the jw's have the wrong jehovah, wrong jesus, wrong holy spirit, wrong view of salvation, who goes to heaven, the lost, how the lost spend eternity, wrong view of israel, the 144,000, birthdays, etc.

I could not be a JW because of the following. I am very weary of churches, org,etc that are so controlled, with little freedom of thought that any expression of difference and one could be on the way out. Also I feel the JW's have the wrong Jehovah, wrong Jesus, wrong Holy Spirit, wrong view of salvation, who goes to heaven, the lost, how the lost spend eternity, wrong view of Israel, the 144,000, birthdays, etc. There is so much I disagree with I could never even entertain the thought of being one of them. While they might be decent people all and all, they are very much given over to the leadership and whatever they say.

It seems like there is some scholars who are very pro NWT and some who are not. Does the WTS have a greek and hebrew dept. or school? Do they have their own university trained scholars at the headquaters? If not, how do they come up with their translation? It does seem though that the changes they have made in the bible lean very much so towards supporting what they believe.
