the watchtower, may 1, 1975, said of a watchtower bible school of gilead graduation held on march 2, 1975: (italics added).
another speaker, f. w. franz, the society's vice- president, forcefully impressed on the audience the urgency of the christian preaching work.
the watchtower (1943 july 1 p. 202) says: "jehovah god is therefore the only supreme court of interpretation of his inspired word.
Wiggle room is powerful, indeed. Was just rereading my old post about my judicial committee. The elders there denied that the Society ever predicted anything about 1975. Or that anyone sold their stuff in anticipation of the end. Despite the fact that the Society itself REPORTED that people were selling their homes at that time.
It's just insane. I often wonder if it's making me as crazy as they are, just reading their stuff... They just never stop lying. Saddest thing was as I was feeling the beliefs unraveling in my soul, a huge and terrible thought came to mind, "No one is going to believe you." They'll believe ANYTHING the Society says. But they won't believe me, even if I have proof. They'll believe someone who doesn't have actual proof and disbelieve someone who has very tangible proof and lots of it.
Wiggle room is powerful.

i've really been enjoying it.
Been wanting to see this show. It's got Morena Baccarin (from two of my favorites 'Firefly' and 'V'), and...Damian Lewis (from a favorite but short-lived show I enjoyed, 'Life'). AND Mandy Patinkin? Can't go wrong there...

jeez....i if this was about two years ago, i could have put this talk togather lickety split.
but i'm finding it impossible because i can't bring myself to put in phrases such as "god's true people", "love motivates us to....." , etc, etc.
every sentence i add, i just want to throw up because it's all such...pish posh and falsehoods and hypocrisy.
sir82, valid points as those are, they're a sure way to get you tackled and dragged off the stage...lol...

Well? Did you time it yet? If it's at least 4 minutes and 30 seconds, you're all set.

up to the 10/95 awake it had on the fine print about the generation of 1914, it was erased from then on.
the 11/95 watchtower then said this on page 17, "eager to see the end of this evil system, jehovah's people have at times speculated about the time when the "great tribulation" would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. however, we "bring a heart of wisdom in," not by speculating about how many years or days make up a generation..... .
so they pretty much blame the membership for believing that those alive since 1914 or what makes the generation on them for believing, even though they themselves had taught it.
I can imagine--people would've been joking about how bizarre that was until they saw it in print, then there'd be a lot of awkward silence, or worse still, lively discussion about how amazing this new understanding is...

Why Love Never Fails
"The love of the greater number will cool off." As part of his sign of the conclusion of the systems of things, Jesus Christ uttered those words to his faithful apostles not long before his death. At no time in human history have Jesus' words proven more true. This wicked world shows "no natural affection". Marriages end in divorce; parents abuse their children; children neglect their aging parents. The sad state of Satan's world is in large part due to a lack of love.
Christians today, however, recognize that "love never fails". Love enables us to remain united despite being in a loveless world. True as this is, why is love so powerful? Why can it be said that love never fails?
The apostle Paul, under inspiration by holy spirit, wrote these words at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Let's read them together. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 [Read]. Showing love requires us to avoid the unchristian attitudes common in the world today, and thus imitate our Heavenly Father, Jehovah God. Is it not reasonable to conclude that such a quality will grant us much success in our dealings with others?
1 John 4:8 shows us another reason why love never fails. Let's read it together, 1 John, chapter 4, and verse 8. [Read.] Love never fails, quite simply, because God is the embodiment of love. In everything he does, Jehovah God never fails to accomplish his purposes. Because love is his dominant quality, he enables us to walk in straight paths and endure life's challenges. Thus, with his love, we as Christians are encouraged and strengthened to love one another, thus building up our brotherhood. It is an endearing and uplifting quality we would do well to cultivate.
Another reason why love never fails is because it is the quality Jesus said would identify his true followers. Let's look at John 13:35: [Read]. Yes, our Master, Jesus Christ, who showed us the greatest love in laying down his life for our sins, set the example for us. It was his unfailing loyalty to Jehovah's name, coupled with his deep love for mankind, that enabled him to succeed in his life and ministry on earth. As a result, he now reigns in heaven, having left a perfect example for us to follow. We would do well to ponder the example of Jesus and consider how we might best follow him and walk the way of love.
Yes, we do live in a loveless world. But with the love of Jehovah God through Christ Jesus, we can be confident that we will never fail to live up to our name as Jehovah's people today. May we carefully meditate on this precious quality of love, as we joyously look forward to the day when the God of love, Jehovah, will establish his righteous Kingdom on the earth, thus ensuring for all time that love will never fail.
....How's that? Probably kind of random; I'm pretty rusty at this...

the strange saga of lorterdan properties at ramapo v. watchtower of new york.
information compiled by barbara anderson.
on february 27, 2009, the watchtower bible and tract society of new york, inc. (watchtower) purchased 248 acres of land located in ramapo, new york, from a company named lorterdan properties at ramapo i, llc (lorterdan).
Hmm. Well, if Watchtower filed documents with the town, which would be a matter of public record, wouldn't that constitute basically informing Lorterdan of their intention to rezone the property, thus requiring them to pay the $9.5 million? They would have to know that Lorterdan would (or could) find out. They represented in a public manner their intent, which I would think, even if they never represented in writing to Lorterdan, would constitute an intention. So at the very least, what they did was misleading, as they were planning something else altogether with the land.
However, as no formal statement was made to Lorterdam, that might work in the WT's favor. In the strictest sense of the contract, they could probably get out of it. But what about the applications they filed with the town? Hmm. If they won, would that void those contracts or leave Lorterdan with the bill? I'm no legal expert, but it's a cryin' shame, whatever is going on...

danny found him there.. something was clearly wrong.. .
sometimes he'd just walk along with me telling me about his wife...".
what happened?".
That was riveting! I can't even imagine how hard it would be to write about something like that.
Having read '30 Years a Watchtower Slave', too, I can totally understand what you're talking about! No JW would be convinced by that at all, too much emotional reasoning going on there.
As a practicing Skeptnostitian, I incorporate all sorts of ideas into my writing, but it's probably still boring, too...But yours is great. I felt like I was there. I wish I could write half as well. I won't urge you to keep working on writing something so painful, but having written about the darkest corners of my life, I can say it's very cathartic. I hope you'll write more as you feel able to.

Just so we're clear, it's the April 15, 2010 Watchtower you're referring to, with the Matthew 24:34 "overlap" doctrine discussed. I'm just saying it because I didn't see it specifically mentioned; I may have missed it.
But they're masters of declaring what shouldn't be done and then doing it themselves. It's just "Mother" saying "Do as I say, not as I do". Nothing new in that...
