Impossible for people who needed the ransom themselves to do this. It's blasphemy and grossly unscriptural. They NEVER cite any scripture that even hints at this teaching, and I'm not sure most JWs even notice its implications. But it's the clearest sign of all that the Governing Body considers itself equal to Jesus Christ.

fuck you.. i was raised in a jw family in the 1980's-1990's where we had to do the daily text 7 days a week during breakfast at the family table at 7am sharp between 7:00-7:15am.

this was followed by a "spiritual discussion," which was held every morning between 7:15am and 8:00am.. since we were homeschooled, our weekly field service was required from childhood on friday mornings immediately following the spiritual discussion, followed by saturday afternoon field service after the bookstudy, as well as sunday afternoon field service after the watchtower study.. i was also required to read each watchtower and awake magazine and give oral reports about each magazine i read in order for my father to be sure that i had actually read them.

i can't remember for sure, but i think each watchtower and awake was released every two weeks back then, making a new magazine to read every single week, followed by an oral report on every single article (including the watchtower study articles which i also had to read, then study in our weekly family watchtower study where we marked our answers, then studied again at the sunday watchtower study).. in addition to this, we also had a weekly family bible study at night each week, had a family bookstudy at night in which we marked our answers for the saturday morning bookstudy, had a family watchtower study at night where we marked our answers for the sunday morning watchtower study, had a family prayer together every night before bed, every morning before and after breakfast and every night before and after dinner (not including our half-family prayers for lunch by my mother since we were homeschooled.).

Hey...that's terrible. The nightmare doesn't have to continue. Self-destruction won't make the pain go away; knowledge is going to be the greatest healer for those old wounds. Once you know it wasn't real, you can probably sort through all those terrible feelings and see your way ahead again.

I hope you come to see before it's too late that there is a life for you now, more than ever before. You just have to start unraveling all that crap they shoveled at you. It's not worth it to stay screwed up over those bozos.

Of course, I wasn't a true Witness. I was raised in a more normal household, though still JW-controlled. You were in a pretty hardcore situation. I hope there's a way for you to find peace again. I really do. Recommend you read 'Combatting Cult Mind Control' by Steve Hassan and 'Crisis of Conscience' by the late Raymond Franz. I think that'll part at least some of those clouds for you.

You deserve better in life than what you suffered through. I hope you find it.

i confess proudly that i was one of the biggest assembly food rapists when it switched to the donation arrangement.

in fact, i would roll up to the counter with a fake list and pretend i was getting food for a huge family, lol.

"uh, yes, hello sister, what a fine morning program that was, may i please have 6 roast beef sandwhiches, 6 chocolate puddings, 6 apple danishes, 6 sodas....etc" and i would eat throughout the entire fking program, as it was so boring there was nothing else to do.

I was too young to pull that off when they still had the food. And too much of a loyalist to even think of it. Besides, I was never a big eater anyway.

yes it did. the sister who rushed to get married and didnt "wait on jehovah" was the one who was encouraged to control her tounge and attitude.she ignored the "spiritual" advice and was using "worldy" advice from book and the radio about relationships.

Aww, crap! I'm in for it now! Nah, the Mrs. doesn't use worldly advice. But we probably should've waited a few more years to get married, until the elders could give us permission to associate and all...still looking for the scriptural support for those dating rules in my Bible. Yet to find them, though. I do nonetheless have a very bad feeling about this one...

the live drama was a little bit gruesome. it is the story about the fall of jerusalem and how they left for Pella. the actually have a disclaimer about

the

violence on the back of the dvd saying that its not a glorification of violence but just a depiction of what had happened.

I noticed that the Faith in Action Part 2 DVD was more violent than any I'd seen in Watchtower movies before. Strange as it is, I actually found the David kids' video to be pretty disturbing, even though the animation ain't exactly Emmy-nominated. I'm wondering if this is a developing trend, of showing more violence in the DVDs. Are they trying to condition JWs regarding Bible-related violence, and subtly prep them for the real deal? Nah, that's the tin-foil hat talking, there. But I'm curious now. But only a little.

this isnt news worthy of course, but i thought i would point it out anyway... apologies to blondie, i dont see the normal wt thread yet.... .

para 2 states that "the other sheep should never forget their salvation depends on their active support of christs anointed "brothers" [gb] still on earth".

para 13 says "he [peter] pointed out that their hope is not founded on their works, but on [the deserts gods] undeserved kindness".

I would think the contradiction is multiple contradictions, really. The anointed do not, to my knowledge, request anyone (ie. 'other sheep') to visit them when they are sick or in prison, nor do they (directly) ask for food or clothing. Jesus said nothing about support or obedience to 'the least of these my brothers'. He talked about acts of kindness. So the actual words written in Matthew 25 are discarded or rewritten to say, "To the extent that you obeyed the direction of the least of these my brothers, you obeyed me."

Also, if salvation depends on supporting these individuals, then faith in Jesus Christ has no actual role whatsoever. They didn't even say salvation depends on faith in Jesus Christ AND actively supporting his brothers. That might almost be forgivable. But with this framework, faith in Jesus Christ doesn't even matter all that much. The most basic tenet of Christianity has been shoved out of the picture.

I noticed that issue myself this weekend, though of course I wasn't at the meeting or anything. But it does make me realize that this is why people think JWs don't believe in Jesus. Because the insider doctrine puts "his anointed brothers" on equal footing with him and above everyone else. We're not brothers if some of us are joint-heirs with Christ and the majority of us are not.

In the history they discuss in this particular issue, nobody seems to have had even a nugget of 'truth' until about the 9th century, then sporadically groups showed up in following centuries--though not even in every century following that. The thing I really like was the clever, selective quoting of Jesus' words at Matthew 28:19, 20: "I am with you." They manage to cut off the rest of the phrase that totally undercuts their logic, "I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." Rather, they simply rephrase it so that it now means Jesus is with his followers today, and assert that there were no followers of Jesus after the apostles died up until pretty much the 1870s. Thus, Jesus wasn't lying; it's just that his followers didn't exist anymore for awhile! Ta-da! Impressive.

Maybe Jesus should have said, "And look! I am with you until the apostles die, and then I'll be gone for about...1,800 years, and then I'll be with you again, at the beginning of the conclusion of the system of things." And one of the disciples said, "Peter, are you sure we're not drunk on wine here?"

That was the last thing I expected to hear in association with 'not shoplifting from Jehovah'. You can't steal something from him that he hasn't claimed as his own to begin with. "Each one must carry his own load", anyone? This was the very point of James' words that "faith without works is dead"--he had just finished talking about how merely having faith won't help a brother in need; only action will do that. I thought the idea was that God just helps us carry what we cannot bear on our own, not things that we could do ourselves if we put forth the effort.

I've heard some real whoppers at assemblies, to be sure. "You don't deserve a vacation! That's Satan's thinking!" Good point, circuit overseer. Would you mind paying for my haircut just as I paid for yours, by the way? How about a little gas money? No? Oh. Then I think I'll take that vacation.

So now I'm going to have to deal with crap animation and hilariously bad sound effects again? And a weak year of just brochures otherwise? Hmm. Ah, well. Rather disappointing...

On the plus side, maybe they'll have that scream like in the Noah video again--"YYUUUURAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" Unfortunately, no John Barr narration this time...maybe it'll be David Splane narration. "Do you want to be like Daniel and his three companions, who were willing to die for Jehovah? God will surely protect you if you do." Nah, surely they wouldn't say that in a kids' video. Right???

Well, if I get a chance hopefully I'll post stuff when mine comes around, if I'm up to taking notes. I mean, after getting over the horror of being there again after two years of not going, that is. But I'm sure it'll be like picking meat off a chicken after everyone else has already eaten...

Will someone post pictures of what the new stuff looks like, at least? That'd be nice.
