  Republican Party is pretty much done!

  after leaving the jehovah's witnesses, i started getting in to politics.

  i naturally found myself going republican and voted a long those lines.

  however, with my more pagan nature and being pretty much against christianity.

  I actually doubt a Republican will be President again, and feel sorry for any man or woman who runs on that ticket.

  Romney got 40 million in the popular vote. I guarantee there's someone with enough charisma to do better than that who will show up sooner or later. It's just the law of averages here. And people are frustrated with the current situation; it's just that Romney didn't do a good enough job of convincing enough of the right people that he had a better idea. He kept saying stupid things that buried his credibility, so that didn't help, either. A Republican candidate who's more careful and more charismatic will have no problem winning in 2016.

  For me, yeah. Still haven't had a beer yet, but I tried the sex thing. Things settled down after that, and growing different kinds of beards and watching R-rated movies is about as wild as I get nowadays. I just wasn't meant to 'go wild', really. It's just not in me, so far, at least. There was only so much I would be willing to do without being terrified anyway.

  The "Pop-In"

  so last night the wife is working, the kids are getting ready for bed and i'm watching futurama.

  doorbell rings.

  now it's dark, snowing and i live on a back road, so it's very odd to have a visitor.

  Wow. I know I'd be pretty mad if they interrupted my 'Futurama' viewing, too. Was it a new episode? I need to catch up, last one I saw was that 'Yo Leela Leela' episode.

  They did the 'pop-in' on me, when was that, September of '11? Guess they didn't need to last year since they popped in on me as I was picking up the family in front of the KH. They're nothing if not annoyingly repetitive. Just shrug it off. Tell them to bite your shiny apostate a--!

  Rock Center 1/17/2013 Expose on Scientology drew JW similarities

  did anyone watch the nbc program "rock center" last night?

  it dealt with scientology defectors and the stories, (shunning, tax-exempte etc) sounded very much like the watchtower/jehovah witnesses!.

  i sat with my family...and there was dead silence throughout the report.

  Btw remember the Dateline segment almost ten years ago, I have a feeling we're the only ones that get excited about stuff like that.

  Speaking as someone who was a JW almost ten years ago, let me tell you, that Dateline segment rattled me to the core. It kind of added further to my realization that probably if I delved into researching things, I'd find out it wasn't true and get in trouble with my mom. I know I was plenty scared to go out in the recruitment work after that one aired. It took several more years before I left, but even back then, I did visit the Silent Lambs website. So it did have an effect. Maybe not a Borg-busting effect, but it was still felt.

  Yeah, no surprises there. It's strange, really, that they blast Christendom for having stuff like hospitals, programs for the poor, that sort of thing. One would think Jesus set the example that he wanted the sick and the poor to be helped, and that was the opposite of what his enemies were doing.

  But hey, just the absence of abusive behavior would be an effing miracle, much less actively helping others. Granted, there are exceptions. My wife told me that while she was in the DF'd state, someone in the local congregation gave her rides to meetings and even baby clothes when her first child was born. Honorable in itself, but the problem is, if she had refused to attend meetings, we all know they would never have done anything for her. It's only because she was on the road to reinstatement that they bothered.

  The organization as a whole does not have any program in place that is designed solely for helping the poor. If they did, we know they would boasting the hell out of it in the magazines and the Yearbook. So...it's one effed up forest, that's for sure. Let no more fruit come from you forever, you self-righteous sons of birches.

  The balance of the universe

  i just wanted to put a few minor examples out there of what i was saying about crime (good/bad), balance in the world, and so forth, picking up from the post that i wrote on here a few days ago.. i want to just also say that i am not condoning crime, nor advocating crime or anything of the sort.

  i am merely saying let's look at the world, and understand it a little better.. i was just listening to megadeth (former jw dave mustaine lead singer of course)....i love his music, and i think he is really talented.

  imagine if no crime had been committed against dave though.

  Well, if such a world as the Paradise Earth were to exist, it would be kind of a dystopia with a dark secret. People who did decide to go the way of Satan would be exterminated and never spoken of again. And no one would even be able to rebel anymore. Eventually, maybe no one would even be able to feel anymore. A dreamlike state would remain over everything and everyone. No variations, nothing new ever done or discovered, eventually there's nothing left to do except...what?

  I don't suppose the victims of crime would agree that this is the better world, though. Not that you said that, Mon Capitaine. I feel like doing a Q voice from 'The Next Generation' now, though. "Pitiful human. You really believe that your savage race will ever rise above petty, animalistic brutality and greed and selfishness?"

  

  But you know, if you think about it, you're right. How else could we reach deeper into ourselves and find a greater good, if not when we are confronted by a great evil? It tests us and enables us to rethink our worldview and adjust our society to protect the innocent and make things more fair for everyone and at least try to prevent criminals from utterly destroying the fabric of our world. I may be wrong. But I do think you have a point here, Mr. Kirk.

  I noticed in Entertainment Weekly they had a review about the book that's come out on Scientology. I didn't even realize it was the same guy who wrote that excellent article about Paul Haggis in The New Yorker. Glad to hear the show was enlightening. May have to watch a recap of it if I have a chance.
