i'm curious, what can you expect to hear from jws this week?
or have you heard anything already.
since awakening, i find it to be hilarious when jws badmouth catholics and the pope but are completely oblivious to how hypocritical they are considering the gb and other wt heavyweights..
None, really, since I don't talk to JWs very much. Yes, evidently this includes even my wife, as our dealings must be kept strictly to matters concerning family business. What would constitute 'necessarily family business' between a husband and wife? Surely not a discussion pertaining to spiritual matters! Wisely, then, may loyal Christian wives win their apostate husbands over 'without a word'.

i just happened to wander past my stepdaughter as she was watching some jw videos this morning before school, and i noticed a 'lesson 4' video, about not stealing.
hopefully it's youtube'd already and someone will post a link, i can't do it at the moment.. the plot is simple.
caleb's in the grocery store, and his mom just tells him [off-camera] 'no candy today.
I see your point, Christ Alone--black-and-white reasoning here. I suppose the point you're aiming for is, you don't have friendship with God because you don't steal (or murder or fornicate or what have you), you have it because Jesus died so you could have it. The avoidance of bad things like stealing is the result of one's friendship with God, not the other way around. Am I right?

i was browsing youtube and it was interesting to see lots of jw covering the new caleb/sophia song "pray anytime".
they need to add this to the songbook.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnine6nwgsk.
I'm going to step in here at this point because so many on this board are afraid of offending other posters.
Are they, now? Hadn't noticed THAT particular problem! But since this was directed at cedars, I'll not comment further on it...
I haven't made any YouTube videos...that would be nice to do, been meaning to get around to it. But I don't tend much to my YouTube account, and my playlists would totally offend most JWs...or get them hooked on swimsuit models...oh, wait, they already are, it's the Internet...

The plot is simple. Caleb's in the grocery store, and his mom just tells him [off-camera] 'No candy today.' They're about to leave, and then Caleb sees this massive stack of giant, circular lollipops, all glittering and all--even a little comedic heavenly chorus thrown in that moment. So the thought hits him, oh, I can just take (steal) it, and he gets a devious look on his face and looks like he's about to stuff this lollipop under his shirt.
(How he planned to get away with hiding such a large lollipop is beyond me, given that his mom would surely notice [and the candy would die as Sparlock had, at least if he'd already licked it or something], but he's just a kid, so...maybe he hasn't thought that far ahead.)
In that moment, the memory of reading 'Learn From the Great Teacher' pops into his head (and onto the screen). He's sitting in bed with the book open, and hears his father's voice asking him something like, 'Can you be Jehovah's friend if you steal?' He shakes his head. 'Do you want to be Jehovah's friend?' He nods. Thus, the memory stays his thieving hand and he puts the lollipop back and leaves the store.
I don't see anything wrong about teaching kids not to steal, it's a pretty universal moral value, so I'm not feeling too critical of this one. Except using the literature rather than the Bible to underscore the point, same as in the Sparlock video. I think kids could also stand to learn that human society also has laws against stealing, and that the police can arrest you for stealing. Perhaps a concept like 'superior authorities' is a bit much, though, for the very young. But hopefully we have more reasons to avoid stealing than just wanting friendship with God. It creates major problems for everyone when people steal--burdens on the police and courts, higher prices and annoying security measures in stores (you know, stuff is locked up like it's in prison so you have to get someone to unlock the case for the product), and the heartache it causes the victims of thievery.
Guess it beats the 'Pray Anytime' song, but I admit I was a little creeped out by Caleb's devious face. It actually scared me a little. But we're just getting to know this little kid. Perhaps we shall assume that the same 'school friend' who gave him Sparlock also taught him it was okay to steal? Sure, why not? Sounds easy enough.

If there is a God...then has he not taught us all to KNOW OUR ROLES and SHUT OUR MOUTHS? Absolutely, he has, my brothers! He has taught us WELL! Let's all read what the Bible says about him, "THE ROCK! Perfect is his justice!" So do ya smell what he's cookin'? [Drops microphone] ['The Rock' theme blares out of speakers]

quick back-story: i'm pretty young...old enough to go to war but too young to buy a beer (if i were in the states..maybe i am maybe i'm not...) compredo?
so i've had allot of doubts, but figured it was a fault in myself until my best friend left a year ago and has since been labeled apostate.
i've never shunned him, in fact, i still see him a few times a month in secret.
Yes, there's always a girl, isn't there? Stick around here, pal. Read my story. Don't bother with this one. And definitely don't trust her. If you are having doubts about the organization, the one thing you must always remember is to trust no one with your thoughts. It's the hardest thing to keep one's mouth shut sometimes, but better for everyone in the end.
Some people start out with doubts and then ricochet right back into the thick of the JWs. So...you can't be sure of anything here. Get educated, get paid, get out of dodge.

op based on mr. freeze's topic - could attending the meetings/studying again sway any of you back to the org.
hearing the propaganda over and over again is pretty powerful i'm sure.
(i'm a non-jw, non-christian (no offense), stubborn as a bull and even i had moments of pause based on some of the doctrine (lasted 30 seconds) but i never had family/friends at stake or a background in this.
OP based on Mr. Freeze's topic
"Hi, Freeze. I'm Batman."
No. I was actually at a meeting not all that long ago, and I just couldn't believe the waaaay out of left field unnecessary interpretation of scripture one speaker gave. I mean, at this point, it's just like...nooo. It's like going back to grade school, man. Once you know what the deal is, it would be pretty hard to rejoin. There are so many holes in the system that even if the mind control powers someone mastered you, your brain would still know and you could never fully go back. There'd have to be some imagined carrot worth pursuing, and...at a certain point somewhere back there, you realize that it's a case of people believing what they want to believe because it takes too much effort to actually think about it.

"Pray to the LORD GOD
Don't pronounce his name"
--Thus declares Christendom,
Of Him ashamed.
The name of Jehovah
We'll use when we pray
At Armageddon
The wicked he'll slay.
Pray to Jehovah
While on the school bus
And at lunchtime
In caf-e-ter-i-as.
Your sandwich is still there,
So open your eyes.
He who does steal it
Will be one who dies.
Pray to Jehovah
In Fam'ly Worship.
For all temptation
You'll be well-equipped!
Thus in our worship
May we take great pride
Knowing Jehovah's
Name is sanctified!

today is the anniversary of the death of douglas adams.. adams was one of the most insightful skeptical thinkers and the author of the fantastic series, "the hitchhiker's guide the galaxy - a trilogy in four parts".. professor dawkins said on his death "science has lost a friend, literature has lost a luminary, the mountain gorilla and the black rhino have lost a gallant defender.".
.
.
I've been thinking about reading 'Hitchhiker's Guide'. I thought the movie was weird--though that opening song was spectacular. I think my wife tried to watch it once but mysteriously stopped at some point. I can't remember what would've made her turn it off, but practically anything that pings the JW conscience might. So...I'll have to watch it again to see if I can figure it out one day...but maybe I'll get around to reading the books too.
