Today is the anniversary of the death of Douglas Adams.

Adams was one of the most insightful skeptical thinkers and the author of the fantastic series, "The Hitchhiker's Guide the Galaxy - a Trilogy in Four Parts".

Professor Dawkins said on his death "Science has lost a friend, literature has lost a luminary, the mountain gorilla and the black rhino have lost a gallant defender."

I love his work and humour and I am sad there will be no more new books.

    One of the greats!

Funny, last time I read it, I caught something in the very beginning:

"And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change . . ."

    That was Scott Adams.

Dilbert is Scott Adams, not Douglas Adams. Also great.

One of the best lines ever, "So long and thanks for all the fish."

That reminds me I have to see the movie on my DVR before I cut off my cable. I've heard that the movie is a mess but a few of my fav British actors are in it (Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman, Martin Freeman, Stephen Fry, Hellen Mirren).

I read the whole "four-part trilogy" as a teenager. He was an inspiring writer and had a great sense of humour.

Not inclined to see the movie. Read the book (and 'Restaurant ...'), seen the BBC tv adaptation. Loved it. Should read the book again - it's been decades - I'll get it more now.
