yesterday, on the thread i started on 4/15/14, http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/279088/1/essay-by-barbara-anderson-whats-in-a-name#.u1e98jao7l9 that introduces a recent article i wrote which is posted on www.watchtowerdocuments.org , i thought i made an inaccurate statement in one of my posts about wt having a sign, jw.org, on the top of one of their buildings.
i was sure i had seen a photo of such a sign but couldn't prove it until last night when proof was sent to me in an email and the proof is to be found in the form of links to photos of the sign.
i was wrong in thinking the sign was on a wt factory building.
Nice. Okay, so this did actually happen, but just not over top of the old 'Read God's Word the Bible Daily' sign. Got it.
I don't know enough about computers to know why, but when I type jw, JWN is the first site to come up. Is that because I frequent JWN, or would it be the same for anyone who inputs the letters jw? If so, anyone who tries to check out jw.org is going to get a lot of information from JWN that the Watch Tower cult doesn't want people to know.
Well, if you Google "jw", only jw.org seems to come up. JWN doesn't even seem to be on the list. Curious. Definitely needs to be addressed...

i was 13yo and largely clueless to what was going on.
i think i remember hearing something about an apostate being weeded out of bethel but really couldn't have cared less.
i didn't start getting zealous until a couple of years later.. .
I wasn't born at that time. I always feel like the youngest person in the room for some reason. My mom hadn't even been recruited by the JWs yet. The only thing I ever heard said about it was that "an apostate wrote the 'Aid [to Bible Understanding]' book". I couldn't figure out how that made any sense, or what that was even supposed to mean. I assumed that meant that somehow stuff in the 'Aid' book couldn't be trusted. But I never gave it much thought for most of my life.

That would be a long list, I suspect, but as far as current shows, I'd say: Arrow, Nikita, Adventure Time, and...Star Wars: The Clone Wars, though that one's over now.
If we're talking in general: Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek (pick one, but I'm still working on DS9 and Voyager, TOS and TNG are my favorites), Smallville (at least when they weren't doing teen soap opera stuff), Ducktales, Chip N' Dale's Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Garfield and Friends, The Powerpuff Girls, and the list goes on. I couldn't remember all of them if I tried.
I do think Game of Thrones is interesting, but I've not gotten into the show much despite having read the books. Scandal seems interesting, too, but I've only seen a little of that and really like it. Marvel: Agents of SHIELD seems potentially good but I'm just not a Marvel guy, so...I'll get to it eventually.

has this been changed?
i thought this might need a new thread.. the memorials i have heard about multiple ones noted the prayer ending with something like "jesus our mediator".. sams on another thread :.
nonjwspouse: sahs, so has it now been stated that jesus is only the mediator for the fds, not all the anointed as was previously?.
The 'faithful slave' is the mediator for the R&F now. They've gone so far as to say that once they get to heaven they'll help apply the value of the ransom sacrifice to mankind's sins over the course of a thousand years. So they describe the 'other sheep' as being 'beneficiaries of the new covenant' while not being part of it. The only way said 'sheep' can get the benefits would be to 'remain associated with Jesus' anointed brothers'. So...no benefits unless you obey the WTS.
Now probably if you say this to any JW, they'll think you're crazy, but if it's said in print in a WT, they'll be on the phone with their friends saying, "Oh, that was such a nice Watchtower this week! Yeah! Mmm hmm." Knowing they don't remember half of it, but they've got to make conversation about it, right?

That video was hilarious and heartwarming. I watched it last night. I felt both happy and sad. Happy for those folks who have found peace and yet sad knowing how much more sorrow there is yet to face, in my own life and in so many others' lives who still have tough choices to make. Or have yet to even find out and wake up. Anyway, it was nice to see their faces and all. Could be this video is a real mood-booster I can watch if I'm down one day in the future.

just to share a little about me:.
i was recently appointed an elder, about 6 months ago now, and that is exactly two years after my awakenning, but funny that the appointment came also about 2 years after i had completely lost all faith in god and had been leading a full time anti-jw life .
makes you wonder the role of the holy spirit in the entire nomination or appointment process.. .
You might want to check with them and find out if they think it was worth it to loose all their family and friends to find out what a hypocritical organization this is, somehow I doubt they would agree.
Well, it was going to happen anyway. Pretty much most of my family consists of jerks anyway, but I didn't need a JC to figure that out. Losing family and friends is par for the course for people who get expelled.
Besides, you really think this guy is the lucky one in all this? I don't. Nobody wins in this, it's the nature of it all.
I'm not defending his approach, but I think I am trying to understand his point of view. I don't much like it, but...strangely, I feel like I understand it.

whats in a name?

.entry-header one morning at bethel in 1989, after the usual text discussion before breakfast, there was an announcement to the staff about the legalization of jehovahs witnesses in poland.
Hey, no problem. I'm just glad it got cleared up. I was wondering if I'd have to drive to New York just to see what the deal was for myself. Not that I was going to, but I've learned not to repeat anything I'm not entirely sure about. But I do appreciate your article and just how much effort you've put into discussing these issues. So...it's cool. I think everyone here does a pretty good job at fact-checking anything posted on the site--keeps us all on our toes.
