I only say 'Jehovah' if I'm around other JWs. In my private prayers, I use the term 'Father', in imitation of Jesus Christ, who never once referred to God as Jehovah in his prayers. Well, well. Guess Jesus would've been an apostate, too.

just wondering of those that pray and who have left the organisation, do you still address god as jehovah?.
i think i'm currently in that awkward stage where i'm neither in or out, yet don't feel i should even address, or have the right, to talk to god (jehovah) until i decide where i sit.
so i'm wondering if it's hypocritical to pray and use his name.

hi all,.
i've heard several reference to the "generation change.
" some of you have said they've revised this several times, including in 1995. onthewayout, i've heard you mention it a couple of times.. can anyone explain to me what this is, or where to find more information on it?.
As far as I am aware, this doctrine has been changed twice--once in '95, as mentioned earlier, and again in 2008. This time 'this generation' was linked to the anointed, indicating that the anointed would not pass away until the end comes, but that we cannot calculate the length of 'this generation'. (Really? Never stopped them from trying before. I guess maybe they don't want to dead wrong yet again.) The bottom line is to make the 'end' be as vague as possible--and to keep JWs on edge indefinitely. Linking 'this generation' to the anointed was a masterstroke--the number of anointed has actually increased over the last 20 years. The more, the merrier, with this latest change.
Ironically, Ray Franz made mention of this possibility in Crisis of Conscience long before the change was made. Guess it was Albert Schroeder's idea? So of course, it found its way into the pot. Hope that helps.

another gem from the same edition - article to be studied december 28 - january 3 (which most will miss lol coz of summer vacation) entitled "what do your prayers say about you?
" page 6 para 19 reads:.
19 when we are being represented in public prayer, we need to display reverential "fear of god.
This is truly insane. Who in their right mind would be stumbled by a married couple holding each other during a prayer? They're MARRIED! Secondly, supposedly everyone's eyes are closed anyway--you could be giving the elder on the platform the finger for all that it would matter.
Maybe they should also mention the importance of old men not holding children during prayer, as the perception of child molestation might stumble people.
But again, no basis in scripture. They should've used the word "evidently" in there somewhere. Really...I mean, let's remember the words on jw-media.org: "Jehovah's Witnesses do not make up rules that are not in the Bible." Such blatant lying is...well, it's the reason I could care less. Just for that, whenever my fiancee and I go to a meeting together, I'm going to hold her during the prayer every single time, until I get counseled, and then I'll do it anyway until they DF me for "disorderly conduct", "refused to stop holding wife during prayer". Yeah. That's going to look great on the GB's mantle.
The Pharisees might actually be hard-pressed to keep up with these guys. The GB would probably stone the Pharisees for writing half of a letter on the Sabbath. Wow...I can't even express my amazement at how disturbing this really is. Good gracious...

happified is a real watchtower word(tm), by the way!.
if you want to give the wts credit for anything, then at least give them credit for their remarkably simple solution to every ill suffered by mankind.. it is a "one size fits all" solution and might be part of the appeal the wts has attracting people who have a hard time with reason and common sense.. they won't specifically tell you what that solution is, though.
if they did, they would even get less converts than they get now, and currently they ain't gettin' many.
Classic. I've got nothing more to add.

the only reason you have total control over all of your members is your false ''faithful and discreet slave'' scripture.
this scripture was applied only for your benefit.
without this scripture your whole religion would fall..
John 8:35, 36 (NLT): "A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free."
The words of Jesus Christ himself condemn you. As the "faithful and discreet slave" in Christ's household, you have failed to provide anything except pain and suffering at the proper time. Your days are numbered. You will not remain forever, your teachings will not remain forever. Like every other force for evil in the world, you will be defeated by your own arrogance. The truth, the real truth, is out here, and more and more people have found it, and will find it.
Thank you for teaching me about community bloodguilt--that means your organization is no less bloodguilty than any other. You sent people to their deaths on a pretense of God's blessing. Your responsibility for that will not be ignored, in heaven, or on earth.
You trained me. You gave me a moral compass. You made me an idealist. You opened my eyes, so that I could see you for who you really are. You gave me the tools with which I could destroy you. You gave me the keys to unlock my chains, and I have tasted freedom and I am loving every second of it.
Justice meets us all in time. When your day comes, you will be met with the same mercy you showed everyone else. None. And trust me, there won't be a two-thirds majority to decide your fate. It'll be unanimous.
You put yourselves on the throne, and you are having your reward in full.
The people who wake up have you to thank, because you pushed us to it. You hammered and hammered until the very ideas you molded atop our collective consciousness were shattered.
Oh, and by the way, when you meet the real Big Brother, Jesus Christ, you'll get to experience the fear, guilt, and shame you imposed upon millions of innocent people. You will be humiliated. You will finally understand and be forced to admit before all that you were WRONG.
Until my last breath, I will fight against you for freedom--to preserve the freedom I have earned through years of pain you inflicted, to free every mind I can and alert people to the danger of your organization and any other group like yours. You created the loyalist. But you forged the patriot.
You've taken enough from me. Now it's my turn. You started a war. You better be ready to finish it. You will never own my mind again. Ever.
See you soon. I've got work to do.

was reading borganized to do the borg's will, and i noticed they applied matthew 18:15-17 only to property and financial issues, saying that the illustration that followed those words--regarding the slave who owed the king 60 million denarii and who had his fellow slave thrown in jail for owing a much smaller amount--justifies such an application.
since the borg is making me as angry as captain picard after he got assimilated, i'll be blunt: this is stupid.
if i were a cursing man, i'd say it even more bluntly.
You are correct, Farkel. It's new and improved--if you have an STD, you must report it to the COBOE (coordinator of the body of elders), for example. Oh, and that means you better not hug or kiss anyone at the meetings. Nice. But that's another story...
if we're merely animals, controlled by greedy, selfish genes, if life is just a blind and pitiless existence which perfectly reflects the universe in which we live, what is the purpose of it all?.
Life has a purpose, in my opinion. I believe its purpose is the pursuit of knowledge. Our knowledge acquired will outlive us and pass on to our offspring, who in turn will build upon it. We seek knowledge to answer the questions our forefathers never asked or never answered, and to therefore create new questions for our children. We will probably never know all the answers, but maybe...maybe if we keep learning, those who follow us will. It's as good a purpose as any, so long as we use our knowledge to benefit each other.

i thought that the new video (dvd) which jehovah's witnesses announced in this year is great.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/178729/1/the-wonders-of-creation-reveal-gods-glory-dvd-watch-on-youtube.
that bgm is also excellent.. what do you think?.

I shut it off when they said the world mostly uses nuclear power for destructive uses. (then shows a giant mushroom cloud) They Lie. The world mostly uses nuclear power for constructive uses like pwering our house's, hospitals, and schools.
Valid point, there--I couldn't help thinking, well what about the electricity, cameras, sound equipment, computers, and laser technology required to make this very DVD? Doesn't that power you're using, that 'worldly' people came up with, constitute a meaningful use of power? I thought it odd that a video about creation declaring God's glory even felt a need to mention 'the world'. How does demeaning human inventions give glory to God, when he's supposed to be the one who gave man the capacity to reason and to invent--which man has, in many unacknowledged ways, used for the good of mankind? (sigh)

Nice quote there. I was thinking of what is implied in 1 Corinthians 5. Clearly, what the man was doing in the Corinth congregation was known by everyone and not just handled by three elders and spread down the grapevine after the person had been iced. This would imply more than just elders talking to him. But notably, the quote you used there, Narkissos, does not at all use any NT scripture to support it. "The Law said it was this way, and it's this way now, because it's clearly this way." I love circles.

That would explain it. I read the Bible 4 times, and even when I sat in the Kingdom Hall, I had this nagging feeling when I read the New Testament that the Christianity there described was nothing like what JWs were doing. Who knew it would blossom into independent, opinionated fault-finding against God's sole channel of communication? Go figure.
