It's been about 4 years since this entry was made. As much as much of this thread is laced with confusing, back-and-forth dialogue about what the heck was really going on with me back then, the record of the JC itself is always something worth recalling for me at this time of year.
I've read so much, evolved so much, and I wonder how differently I might have handled all this if I had it to do over. Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. I didn't know half of what I know now, so...it's amazing I was able to handle this even half as well as I did, without really being 100% sure about anything yet.
I invite anyone who's never read my records of my JC to go ahead and read them, if you can ignore the melodrama of my personal life and glean something useful. Maybe folks who are about to face a JC, if they read about what it's like, maybe reconsider and decide on an alternative approach if possible--or if they're going to go into a JC, particularly if they plan to fade, maybe they can see where I went wrong and not make the same mistakes.
Well, take care, folks.

The sole purpose
of our existence as a Society is to announce the Kingdom
established in 1914 and to sound the warning of the fall of
Babylon the Great. We have a special message to deliver.Galatians 1:8: "However, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to you as good news something beyond what we declared to you as good news, let him be accursed."
This is the root problem with the preaching work, from the Christian standpoint--the message is clearly a different sort of gospel. That nullifies the work--the message is in direct contradiction with the original message of the NT. (I mean, assuming there was ONE original message...)
Worse still, this message that goes beyond the original gospel is rooted in a number of false beliefs that have somehow survived nearly a century of so many other beliefs being jettisoned by the Society as being incorrect. Its staying power is, of course, the fact that it grants them the illusion of having a "true prophecy" under their belts, which is itself achieved only by obscuring the actual history (ie. lying about their own history or omitting critical information in retelling the stories).
So...since that's the whole point, the whole point is a fraud.

What were “the traditions” that they had been taught? Certainly not those held by false religion and promoted as if they were as valuable as what is found in the Scriptures...Such teachings came from a reliable source and could indeed be trusted.
Do I keep up-to-date with our present understanding as set out in the pages of this magazine and other Bible-based publications provided for the worldwide congregation of God’s people?’
promoted as if they were as valuable as what is found in the Scriptures
as set out in the pages of this magazine and other Bible-based publications
"This magazine and other Bible-based publications" are very clearly considered "as valuable as what is found in the Scriptures" by the authors of this article. But of course..."Such teachings came from a reliable source and could indeed be trusted."
The only thing we can rely on is the constant changes, hence the need to "keep up-to-date with our present understanding". They are the theological Windows Update.

JW.org to be banned in Russia
by redvip2000 inmy facebook was "lit up" today with all the out cries about the possibility of the organization's website being banned in russia.. as many of you recall this past august a court in russia banned the website and sought to make accessing the website in russia illegal.
well tomorrow the appeal by the org will be heard in court.
if the appeal is denied, jw.org will no longer be available in that part of the world, causing endless lamentations and cries of "persecution", only to bolster the idea that they are truly hated by the world because they are true christians.

Suppressing freedom of thought and expression is something the JWs are experts at. So it's simply wrong to follow their same course and ban their stuff. We have to be different. Better. And freedom is what's better, in all cases. Without freedom, or the desire for it, how else could any of us have learned anything that woke us up in the first place? There will always be someone with an extremist belief or an irrational belief. Ban the JWs, even wipe them out entirely by some means--and there will be three more cults in place of them. The solution is not bans, but education. The more people know, the less irrational their beliefs will become over time.

Seems the org have got this wrong as well..
by Dis-Member inchina to become new world superpower... http://money.cnn.com/2013/07/18/news/economy/china-us-superpower/.
will china supplant the united states as the world's leading superpower and top player in the world economy?a new pew research center survey of 38,000 people in 39 countries found the widespread belief that china is well on its way.. overall, a majority or plurality of respondents in only six of the countries surveyed believe the u.s. will remain on top.. "publics around the world believe the global balance of power is shifting," pew wrote.
"china's economic power is on the rise, and many think it will eventually supplant the united states as the world's dominant superpower.".

Nah, they'll just argue that the 'toes of part iron and clay' represents China's dominance with the Anglo-American World Power still around, but weakened. "As time goes on, it may evidently be hard to clearly identify which world power represents the 'iron' and which the 'clay'. We are wise not to speculate."

2014 DC: Fewer, but larger venues in the U.S.
by doinmypart inin the u.s. there are fewer venues this year, but they will be held in larger facilities.
as long as i can remember my family travelled no more than 2 hours to attend and in the last few years the dc was local (within a few minutes travel).
this year my family is driving 6 hours to a major u.s. city.

I was looking on jw.org to confirm there are fewer venues, and by Jove, you're right! There is literally only one U.S. convention in my area this year. My wife made it sound like there was some kind of special international thing going on, and she may well be correct as she'd know better than I would, but maybe this is just the only game in town. If this is a permanent deal, I'll never have to stay in a hotel room hours from home again. That could be good.
On the other hand, I will miss the stores down there, especially that seafood place. Man, their fried shrimp were GOOD! And they gave you a ton of cocktail sauce to go with it, too! Not like the stores around here where you can barely get ketchup. Hmm. Well, maybe I can still take the time off like I usually do, but just make it my own personal vacation at long last.
The bad thing is that it's a stadium. They're going to fry out there. No more air conditioning. I wouldn't go to that venue at gunpoint. I don't even think the kids should go. Well, apart from the obvious reasons they shouldn't go.
Well, maybe I can find a good seafood joint up here, visit Dave & Buster's, and play through Star Wars Trilogy Arcade at least twice. Yes. I think I've got myself a plan...

Seems my wife's congo has been invited to an international convention. It's going to be at a big stadium. Plus side? I no longer need to worry about paying for a hotel room, it's very close, indeed. Somebody's getting a Nintendo 2DS this year! Awww yeah!

Jehovah's Witness juror - The actions of this juror are a complete disgrace, said Prince Georges County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.
by Sol Reform inhttp://www.csnwashington.com/article/juror-email-leads-mistrial.
juror email leads to mistrial.
that juror now faces a possible contempt of court charge.the trial of a man involved in a high speed crash that killed a prince george's county police officer last year ended in a mistrial.. one of the jurors told the judge via email thursday morning that judging others was a violation of her religion as a jehovah's witness, news4's prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins reported.. kevon darnell neal, 23, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and fleeing and eluding following the death of officer adrian morris, 23.. morris and his partner were pursuing a stolen silver acura when their cruiser ran off interstate 95 near the powder mill road exit in august 2012. morris died after being ejected from the vehicle.

You have got to be kidding me. I remember hearing about this story on the news. I might even have known this person, the JW, I mean. I had four days of jury duty myself in PG County, but they said I was an alternate juror and dismissed me.
But it's sad because from the way they handle things prior to the trial, there is literally no reason at all for a JW to be in this position. They give you every opportunity to get out of a case on the basis of some specific circumstance like religion. I think the persecution complex in itself generates an unhealthy amount of fear about an already nerve-wracking situation, so I do understand why a JW might not stand up, but standing up BEFORE the trial could have prevented this person from being in trouble with the court AFTER the trial. A man's life wasn't worth that to this woman? Someone else could have stepped in and helped to see justice done. Shameful. And a needless burden on the courts.
Hmm. But this is interesting. I suppose they'll never reveal the person's name, though...ah, well.
