My facebook was "lit up" today with all the out cries about the possibility of the organization's website being banned in Russia.

As many of you recall this past August a court in Russia banned the website and sought to make accessing the website in Russia illegal. Well tomorrow the appeal by the Org will be heard in court. If the appeal is denied, JW.org will no longer be available in that part of the world, causing endless lamentations and cries of "persecution", only to bolster the idea that they are truly hated by the world because they are true christians

Gotta hand it to the Russians.... they got a bit more balls in being tough with freedom of religion. It's a double-edged sword though. Politicians have a tough time balancing different rights..

Jehovah's Witness texts also continue to be targeted by law enforcement agents. On 12 September Jewish Autonomous Region Public Prosecutor's Office announced that Birobidzhan District Court had ruled "extremist" the Jehovah's Witness brochure "Good News From God" after an investigation by the local FSB security service. "The brochure is of a deliberately extremist nature as its contents aim to form negative impressions of other religious trends", the Office claimed.

On 7 August Tver's Central District Court ruled the Jehovah's Witness website www.jw.org "extremist" at the request of Tver Regional Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the decision on the Court's website, this was after FSB and Counter-"extremism" Police found the site to contain seven Jehovah's Witness texts on the Federal List of Extremist Materials.

The JW's always "win"... if they site gets banned: persecution! If the site does NOT get banned: blessing from Jehovah! They are the "true religion" either way.

Doctor of Philosophy and expert in religious studies who serves as a professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations in Moscow, says that jw.org is “a gift for anybody who is engaged in religious research. It provides comprehensive and understandable material. Significant spiritual and moral issues are presented in a simple way. When you use the website, you feel like you are being openly welcomed into the home of Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

    Sounds pretty dangerous to me..

    J. R. Brown, a spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses at their world headquarters in New York, comments: “The jw.org website is valued both as a research tool and as a trusted information source for families all over the world. It is so valued that an average of 900,000 people visit the site every day to access positive information available in some 600 languages. Censoring this material is clearly unwarranted.”

Yet they themsleves censor every other source of knowledge and information available anywhere that was not produced by themsleves.

Banning a religious / political ideology or movement is not a good idea , it only re-inforces the idea that they are right and that you are trying to suppress the truth .It only reinforces the faith and resolve of those in these movements to be more fanatical.

What should be done is to educate the masses in a country about the techniques used by these institutions , religous or political by continually publishing information that exposes their flaws in logic or doctrines on a regular basis .

Schools would be a great way to alert young ones to these dangers , and start at an early age not wait untill they get to high school or later .

The Russian Government ( and any other ) would be well advised to utilise the resources of sites like this one , jw.facts , or whatever to educate the people and expose the hypocrisy ,double standards , failed expectations , flipflops of doctrine , and continually changing / adjusting their beleifs , of the witness organization with a continuing newspaper / television campaign rather than banning them .

Thats my thoughts on the matter
