OTWO - I guess I meant when I try to say, "See, you weren't doing this for 100 years. It's an obvious call to Christians. Preaching ISN'T the only work you should be doing." And I'll just be brushed off.

Other Points From the Annual Meeting
by jabberwock ini realize that the latest clarification of the generation teaching has been discussed quite a bit on this thread.. but i think that there are at least two other important points from the annual meeting that have been, for the most part, overlooked:.
1. the weeds of matthew 13 are not the churches of christendom, but apostates.. 2. showing love to our neighbors involves more than just the preaching work.
(thanks for mentioning this rubadub).

JWs--A Religion No One Really Cares About
by minimus init's funny that when you seperate yourself from the cult, you see very few people care about the witnesses.
as jws we were always told how the governments were going to turn on religion and then try to obliterate us and how jehovah would step in, in the nick of time, and save all of his people.
how delusional!.

I always love that false hope stuff. Let's see there's...
- False hope in science
- False hope in worldly governments
- False hope in worldly organizations
- False hope in pagan gods
What else? You all would know better than me. But it always kills me when it's pointed out I'm having false hope in something.
Me: "Wow! Man just landed on the moon!
My JW: "So? You're putting false hope in science."
Me: "No I'm not, I think it's cool they landed on the moon."
JW: "Ummhmm, classic case of false hope in science."
Me: "What does that even MEAN? They literally landed on the moon. That's cool. Not hopeful."
JW: "Just as I said, false hope in science."
Me: "ARGH."

Regarding #2: I remember I was SHOCKED when I learned that a religious organization performed NO humanitarian/charity work, and even more SHOCKED when I learned that if they did it was for JWs only and the reason they didn't do it for others was because the world would soon in. Such a thick feeling of not giving a crap exuded from that mindset that I knew this was something I didn't want to be involved in. If any of you have it, I would L-O-V-E to see the scriptural basis for that one.
The even better, richer part of this, if it is in fact a change to the aforementioned practice and JWs actually start working in soup kitchens, etc., is that none of the active will care that this policy changed and they'll just see it as new light or as nothing that different at all. That's the part that drives me nuts. There's nothing complicated or scripturally confusing about whether you should help those in need (as compared to the 1914 business, generation argument or the #1 mentioned in this post) whether they are your faith or denomination. It shouldn't have taken them 100 years to figure this out, but I'm sure it will just be noted and moved on from. Ugh.

Why Can't We Accept The Jehovah's Witness Religion For Its Good & Bad?
by minimus ini know many catholics, protestants and jews who practice their religion and even if they don't believe or accept everything that is stated, they still are content to be members of their faith.
basically, many people don't accept their churches 100% but still happily remain.. exjw's on the other hand view the witness religion as totally horrible.
we are not like other religions.

I was going to say - from a never a Dub perspective - that it's how they chastise and curse every other religion that the JW religion cannot be accepted for their good and bad. I remember the first time I saw (not in JW lit) that false prophets would be condemned to hell, and that these false prophets included Jews, Hindus, etc. It's repulsive and I happen to think God is smarter than that.
I still feel that's a very big part of the problem I have with the religion. HOWEVER...in light of what a few others bring up, I would say that the blood doctrine, shunning, pedophile hiding, family destroying and the other matters that actually do harm to human life are the biggest reasons they can't be simply left alone to exercise their beliefs. Especially when these actions affect innocents like children ... and I'd even stretch it as far to say the bad doctrines affect trusting JWs. It's very irresponsible on the GBs behalf and morally reprehensible.

In 1994/95 did they try to make another explanation besides that they just didn't know? And so this new explanation is like Dissed said "They are just passing the baton like in a race. Its all one team of anointed generationites." Does this mean that they will have to change the teaching on the 144,000? Isn't that a literal number to them?

Right, the generation teaching and how they are changing it. I think, but could be mistaken, that the original teaching was that anyone alive in 1914 would live to see the beginning of Armageddon, or the Great Tribulation. I know this changed a bit in 1995, and now I suppose it's changing again? I also don't get when people talk about annointed up to 1935. If I were a R&F I would probably just go along with it because it's so complex, IMO.

Can someone explain this to me in super layman's terms? I don't really get it - they're complex!

So I did it - almost!
by wantstoleave intoday, i'm not quite sure how it started, but i voiced my concerns about the religion i've been brought up in since i was 3. my dad went straight on the offensive, though kept nice and polite.
i told them that someone can not be df for accepting a transfusion.
not sure why i started with that example, but nevertheless... dad said 'since when' and started pumping me for information, when, where, what...you get the picture and biggest one of all 'how do you know this'.

Does anyone know where there are WT quotes that say all non-JWs will be destroyed at Armageddon? My Dub always says that no man can know another's fate when he dies - that's between him and his maker.

Sad today
by greenie infirst, it feels so weird typing all this to strangers, but here goes anyway.. i suppose my jw had an epiphany recently because we had some really deep talks this weekend.
he was very kind and calm about everything, but he basically said he's afraid i won't be happy in our life together because of his jw lifestyle.
he says he knows a life with him isn't the one i pictured for myself and that he doesn't feel able to make the kind of compromises i would want or need to be happy.

But if you were married. The elders would come & tell you how wrong you are.
First, this statement shows me how long the JW influence must last on a person. Second, this is the bottom line: I WOULD NOT CARE IF SOME ELDERS CAME BY AND TOLD ME ANYTHING. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THEIR MESSAGE. It would be like another religion or movement, Hindus or Wiccans or Numerologists, coming by to tell me how wrong I was about something. It wouldn't matter to me. I don't put stock in what they're selling.
But if you take the little one into this religion dont tell me you love her/him
I appreciate you're passionate on the topic, but I don't appreciate my love for my child being questioned. I'm sure as a mother you understand.
I'm glad your daughter found happiness with a nice guy.
