Once I realized what horse shit the actual doctrinal matters were I kept going for a bit and decided "well, at least I can sit there and read my Bible." I did that for a while and then saw that the Bible itself doesn't make any sense, was often contradictory, and depicted a very self-centered, jealous, and cruel deity. So then I had no reason to go any longer.

A sister that I view as nothing less than an actual sister and I were having a conversation over lunch the other day and she asked me if I ever planned on coming back, to which I replied "there's a lot of things I see, both organizationally and doctrinally, that I just cannot agree with. If they ever cleared it all up, there is the chance that I would be more inclined to come back than I am now." She used the classic line being here discussed..."well, they are imperfect men." She wasn't ready for the logic that was to follow (granted, we are still great friends, one of the few I still have from the Hell, but she has yet to learn to use the logical reasoning part of her brain). I said "that is true. But would you accept that as an answer from someone you went to preach to that was a Catholic?" "Well no." "See the point? Why is it any different?" She had no response.

I was just discussing this on Tuesday with an active dub and his wife (two of only a handful that will still have anything to do with me). I should say I attempted to discuss. I threw a quote out there from a book I am reading that says "once a person has been brought to his knees, he or she will accept whatever master caused it" and that "most humans are masochistic, responding to fear and failure." While the author was not specifically addressing SS, it certainly made me think of this friend of mine. In any case, he has spent the better part of fifty years with the organization and didn't really want to comment a whole lot on the concept. Anyhow, I agree. While it may not be SS by defenition, the org certainly does use some similar mental tactics and they yeild common results.

BlueCanary,
Yes I am, though I follow it more practically than ritually. I would be happy to start a thread, though it may not be immediately, to give ya a summary and then ask whatever you'd like to. Keep your eyes peeled.

Theosophy
by Cthulhu ini was just doing a bit of research on theosophy, which was founded by a woman named helena petrovna blavastsky (183191).
the founding of the theosophical society took place in 1875. this movement had three main objectives.
the first focused on the formation of a universal brotherhood without regard to race, religion, sex, caste, ect.

I was just doing a bit of research on Theosophy, which was founded by a woman named Helena Petrovna Blavastsky (1831–91). The founding of the Theosophical Society took place in 1875. This movement had three main objectives. The first focused on the formation of a universal brotherhood without regard to race, religion, sex, caste, ect. The third was to explore nature's unexplained laws and the power of man. The second, which I found rather interesting, involved encouraging the study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science. Two of these, the first and the second, sound strikingly similar to that which is/was preached by the Watchtower Society. Perhaps some of you have seen the book form of the Photo Drama of Creation. On the cover it says, if my memory serves me, something to the effect of 'religion, science, and philosophy stem from the Bible.' Granted, there were considerable differences in the theology of the two groups, but I wonder if the Theosophical Society could have had any influence on the great and powerful seer, prophet, FDS, and inspired CT. Has anyone done any research on this? A number of the basics match up and the TS was founded right around the time PastRus was getting things moving.

I will spend Halloween dressed openly as the Satanist that I am. I really missed this holiday for the few years that I was with the clan and am looking very much forward to it this year.

I can't get past the bitterness.....
by desib77 ini don't know why but lately i have been so intolerant of people.
i find myself bitter when people spew nonsense as if it is fact (political, religious, etc........).
i went on a girl's weekend with a good friend of mine (non jw) and everytime she started talking about how blessed she is and how god put stuff on her heart i felt ill. i feel ill just telling you about it.. so, am i the only one feeling bitter these days??

I find that making a situation laughable helps me to get away from the bitterness, but actually makes me feel like I've vented a bit as well. A lot of folks I hang around with are religious to some extent, but they also have a good sense of humor, so when they start up I'll tell 'em about how I too felt blesses, and how it must have been my prayer to the leprechans and unicorns, since they know my opinions. I usually get a chuckle and we go on with a cheerful conversation.

When I was studying actually. I just figured Jehovah would clear it up for me eventually. It wa sthe spirit appointment of elders. I understood that the holy spirit didnt actually light a fire above the guys head to show approval or anything...but we were supposed to act like thats how sure the appointment was. "What if" I thought "one was appointed and it was later discovered that, at the time of said appointment, he was a wife beater or a child abuser? What about the guys who were appointed in Communist countries who spent years working up to eldership just to infiltrate the congregations?" It didnt make a damn bit of sense to me. Then, over the years, there were just sooooooooo many more.

Alright, Ive posted on here a couple of times, but let me tell you a little bit more about myself. I have been doubting for some time, and fading for some time. I've not been to a meeting for some months. Presently I live with another faded JW and one of my family members. Thius morning he sends me a text message to the affect of "oh yeah, my mother asked me about your tattoo. better play your cards right or they'll probably disfellowship ya." Can they disfellowship someone for having gotten a tattoo? Granted, its not the most "Christian" looking thing in the world, and for good reason, but is it their policy to actually disfellowship for that? I've looked in an online copy of the elders manual and there is nothing in the index about "tattoos" or "body modifications." Just wondering if anyone knows. Thanks

"Pay Attention to Yourselves and to all the Flock"
by Cthulhu ini have been following a number of threads here periodically and have decided to join so as to contribute.
i was wondering if any of you would have any idea as to the value of the book mentioned in the title of this thread "pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock," the elusive elders manual.
you see, my grandfather died recently and, unbeknownst to "the others" i managed to obtain said book before anyone else could.

Ommpa,
I just registered yesterday, so for a day I have been with this particular message board, but I have been fading and, now, inactive, for some time. I am from Michigan.
