If he didn't do the things he did in his youth that were wild, and on the edge, then he wouldn't be on that stage accepting that award. Nice of him to say that NOW, having done what he needs to get where he is.
I used to have a lot of respect and appreciation for him as an artist, but not since he became a JW, no matter how fringe. And I say this AS I was a JW too.

Well, you need to answer for yourself whether or not she's open for discussion, or just saying one of those closed phrases that people under thought control say. If it were my sister that was urging me to look at books, not internet, about the Society, I'd take it to mean this "I've already affirmed my faith, and you should do it too for yourself, so you can see that we are right and you are wrong"
And if I found she was wrong...that the Society is wrong?? That's not up for discussion, because I have different values now...blah blah blah.
So if I'm projecting my family situation, then disregard this advice. Go to her, or write a letter that she can go back to and reread and study. Lay it all out there and know you did what you could to wake her back up. If it doesn't work, you've still lost your sister to this religion, which is where you stand now. If you feel it could work, and you could gain your sister back, then it'd be worth it. Otherwise you'll be working yourself up and wasting your time. Only you can know which it'll be.

use the "search inside" feature to find the discussion of the golden age on pages 131 and 132.. among other things it says: "unbelievably, the golden age published over 130 articles railing against aluminium cookware between 1925 and 1969".. did the society continue to publish articles against aluminum as late as 1969?

5 years ago when i attended my last meeting.
ever since i started making decisions, instead of waiting on jehovah, things have been happening faster for me, its weird.. all my life i was told just wait on jehovah, wait on him for a husband, wait on him for children, wait on him for a happy life.. well you know what i stopped waiting and i am happy!!!!.

See I read Sherilynn and am happy for her. The way I figure it, she's got this generation thing down to a science, and WHEN, not if, but WHEN the society changes the light bulb again, she'll be knocked for a loop perhaps.
See she's gone it DOWN, and it won't/can't change. So when it DOES, and it WILL, then she'll have to stand up and take notice. I hope she's reminded of this time on the board (which WHY did you join? That's a no no, unless of course you really aren't sure of your faith and you are making it clearer for yourself, then hehe, keep reading). I think it will serve for her like the person in the field service that told me that 1975 was a hoax, and I denied it. I never forgot they said that, just it took another 25 years for it to sink in. Maybe her issue is not that she's blinded, or an apologist, but that she's hardheaded like a lot of us were (are). When in 25 years SHE awakens, it'll be within the same time period of when I awakened, thus making us contemporaries, and EVIDENTLY, of the same generation.
