I like how Ray Franz described it in his book - the WT produces people with generally good morals and an outward appearance of warmth, but underneath they typically lack compassion toward others. Obviously that is a general observation since I truly do know JW's who are wonderful people (and I hope I was one when I was in there) but I think it is especially evident among elders - the WT produces more men who are judge, jury, and executioner than kind, warm, compassionate shepherds.

This is a HUGE match for the future of USA Soccer. They HAVE to win today.

As for England and Germany, a tie or a loss today is a national embarassment.

Germany has gotten out of the group stage for the last 80 years or so, but I am nervous to say the least.

The referees have done such a good job of screwing up this tournament that I worry about another yellow-card happy ref, a goal disallowed for no reason, etc.....

I have been waiting for England to "flip the switch" and start looking good, but it hasnt happened yet.

Did the WT totally "luck out" with World War I starting in 1914?

my family is still fixated on the 1914 date, simply because world war i started that year.. i told them i will agree it is a significant year in world history, but that the 1914 date as presented by jw's is based on lies and charlatanry.. i said "i think the wt really lucked out with 1914 with wwi starting that year - it keeps most jw's stuck on that date" .

the standard answer is "well, that was the year everything went haywire"...... let the circular reasoning continue .

JWs do not quite know HOW to respond when I explain this to them and they discover that the WHOLE WORLD was expecting war.

Exactly - the situation in Europe had been getting worse and worse prior to this.

If the average Witness would do just a little bit of homework, they would realize that WWI was inevitable in many ways.

Like UC mentioned, the USA didnt get involved until very late in the game.

The WT also likes to graphically mention all of the "technology" that debuted in WWI - failing to mention that it had been around for years before.They make it sound like all of a sudden in 1914, these new mammoth, destructive weapons appeared. ..........

I think there is even another one coming up if I remember right.......

Are the old days of simply peddling WT's and Awakes going away?

The new form of service seems easy:

a) knock on door

b) leave invitation when they dont answer

OR

c) leave invitation with person who answers by saying "Here this is for you" and leave before they realize it is from JW's

Is this really what Jesus had in mind when it came to spreading the "Good News"?

Its more like a recruiting drive for meetings and assemblies for people who NEVER EVER show up based on a stupid invitation.....what a waste of time, money, and resources, just to give people more busy work in the "ministry"......

I am so MAD!

First, the Serbia/Germany game was the worst officiated match in recent memory, with more yellow cards than you could count. The red card to Klose was pathetic, then Germany couldnt score to save their life.
Props to Serbia, they played hard and frustrated the flow, plus Poldolski missed a penalty....BUT I cant help to think that the referee really cost Germany at least a point out of that match.

NOW - the US is ready to do their usual and lay a HUGE EGG at the WC........unbelievable.......
