last night during the service meeting a letter was read indicating that more money was needed by jehovah's witnesses in order to expand the world-wide work .
it was suggested that each publisher take a piece of paper and write down the amount of money they would be willing to give and hand it to the elders.
it seems to be a cleverway to gather "seed money" by the organization while not calling it a "tithe.
We had flyers saying "No collection plates" too. I remember in my junior JW career I was wondering what's up with that, JWs have the same boxes that any other churches had - until I saw in a movie what is actually a "collection plate" it's not a practice here, all churches have donation boxes like JWs. That "no collection plates" is like a desperate ad, they say anything that could be considered positive.

It's an excellent case study of delusion. I only read the first entry yet, where he continually quotes from the May 1 st 1957 Watchtower, proving that he can "take whatever theocratic steps are open for us", while not realizing that the only theocratic step open for a JW is "wait on Jehovah". What a joke
new songbook - removing all the old teachings and anything saying new world or new order.
no more bookstudies - (so no small indepedent comments, only brief congregationwide so not much discussion).
bible reading talk can 'read' only, no introduction or conclusion - again not allowing any input or thought.
The lowering of required hours was not so long ago (not sure when exactly). The sunday talk was also shortened a couple of years ago, used to be longer. There are two trends here: making a JWs life generally easier, and tightening the control. Probably they're related to each other.
Also, what's up with removal of "new world" or "new order" terms? JWs here are still using those in informal talks... and I don't remember a specific "new light" on that.

I know a JW who hates appartment buildings, lives in a house, because the taller buildings are modeled after the Babel tower.

Patience may have its limits, but JW patience (as organization) seems limitless. They promised resurrection rigth... erm... tomorrow for more than 100 years now, and they're still waiting for it.
thought i'd share this little bit of 'research' with you all.
i remember sometime back when i was visiting my wife's kh, they sang a song from the song book that contained the words, present truth.
i did a quick search on google to see what people on the internet were saying about this phrase.
I think (as W.Once mentioned too) that the Society doesn't promote the "present truth" use in this way, sir82's 2nd definition. I think even in that song you heard Gary, the word is used in the context of sir82's 1st definition: "Here, not there; with us".
I say this, because in my language those two meanings are rendered differently. If you give me the number of the song, I could look it up in my wife's songbook. I just checked the NWT online, and 2 Peter 1:12 says: "For this reason I shall be disposed always to remind YOU of these things, although YOU know [them] and are firmly set in the truth that is present [in YOU ]."
