Another question for Christians: 'No one comes to the father except through me'

often times the scripture 'no one comes to the father except through me' is used as proof that we shouldn't recognize an earthly governing body.

how does that scripture prove that a governing body isn't just part of the 'chain of command' leading to the father?

it doesn't seem to necessarily preclude the possiblility of an earthly governing body by itself..

There are many Bible verses saying that Jesus is the mediator between man and God. 1 Timothy 2:5,6 , Hebrews 9:15, 28 , Ephesians 1:7 , etc. There is no single verse that could even point that there should be a mediator between common man and Jesus.

Even if we accept the parable of "faithful slave" says what the GB tells us it says, that offers no basis of mediatorship. The slave was there only to "dispense food", not to reconcile the other slaves with their master. On the other hand, that same passage talks about an evil slave, who put himself above the other slaves.

hi.. somethings seem weird.. for example - wages of sin is death - so if you sin you die, and if you die you have paid for that sin completely, so you have no more sin.

now what if everyone in the world was killed - by a nuclear domino effect - in theory we have saved everyone .... any ideas?.

Others have said before me several times: the most "humane" thing to do for a JW is to be a suicide bomber. It's the best way to save the most people. It comes from the argument you used. Sure he wouldn't get resurrected, because he killed, but by the price of his life he can save many others, and isn't that a most christian thing to do? He may be even resurrected because he was so selfless...

i live in russia jehovah's witnesses ten years, i go on meeting where read magazines of 1930-1960 approximately.

we consider that 13 head speaks to romans about jehovah the god and jesus christ and that in it is not spoken about the authorities of this world.. .

whether i wish to learn there are still such groups which also read magazines.

Sidex, you're not likely to find fringe JW group members here. You see, the vast majority of people was part of the main Jehovah's Witness cult, and they are either ex-members, or still in because of family, but severly dissilusioned. These folks are not dissilusioned by Romans chapter 13, so they won't even think about joining a group that is very similar to what they left. Moreso, the schizm because of Romans 13 was only prevalent in Eastern Europe, and most here are from Us and UK.

I recommend you http://forum.martorii.ro/ it's also a mostly ex-JW forum, but from Romania, and there are a couple of people from groups believing what you do. The language is romanian, but you can write in english too, probably most will understand. Or better yet, if your understanding of english is good, stick to this forums and read what's posted, because most of it is relevant to your religion too, and you may learn something useful.

Has the WTS removed the 'offending' publications? Or just retired them due to time?

i seem to recall the earlier versions of watchtower cd-rom containing books from the 50's and 60's [life everlasting in the freedom of the son's of god - babylon the great has fallen - etc].

i have no cd predating 2001 now in my possession - and looked at that one today doing research, finding that virtually nothing pre-1970 is there [except the revised/altered 'truth' book].. is my memory faulty on this?

could it be that they just 'retired' the older pubs innocently?

I have an 1999 CD image at home on my PC, and yes, that one had literature from the 50's onward.

The reason for taking them out could not have been because of space, text is compressed with very good efficiency, up to 20% of original size. Uncompressed you can fit about 150 Bibles on a CD, compressed that's about 600, or at least about 3000 normal size books. That's more than enough space to store all the literature from the 50's until present.

thinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.

i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.

(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).

The devout JW for safe measure lives an absolute disconnected life, not doing anything than preaching, going to KH, eating and sleeping (some of them also go to work). The vast majority of things in "the world" is forbidden. The control is very strict, as you said, going into very fine details of how one should live his life - I'd call them techniques to skip on life completely.

Lifting the 1935 limit was necessarry but it starts to backfire, as expected. The number of annointed keeps heavily increasing instead of the much discussed decrease that is one of the signs of Armageddon being near. I expect a "new light" explaining this in the next 5 years, I wouldn't be surprised if the 144k loses its literal value. Oh joy

Or, as someone in this boards mentioned, they will say the "great crowd" didn't get formed in 1935 either. Many of the first century christians were also great crowd members, and most of the "Bible Students" had wrong expectancy because they misinterpreted something. That would instantly save them a whole lot of annointed space to fill up.

Your worst field service experience.

my worst field service experience was this.. i didn't have a car at the time and so a pioneer sister was picking me up of service every couple of days.

she was my partner and i got a door where the woman was clearly not interested.

as i am stepping away the pioneer sister starts in with all the objection stoppers.

Watchtower cleans out Kingdom Hall Library's ...

last night i got a call from a chap in the uk, who recently left the jw's.

he wanted to compare notes with his us counterparts.. he said that a few years ago, (i think about 2 years ago) the society cleaned out all the literature from every kingdom hall, particularly russell and rutherford books and anything prior to 1950. giving each hall a computer with the watchtower cd rom for them to use for research.

he wanted to know if the same was done in the states.

My KH had no old literature in the library. But then again even the new literature in the library was kept in a closed and locked cabinet, so one had to go to the elders to request something. Didn't see it happen...

After the Kingdom Hall was built we had a large display case featuring literature arranged in a timeline from Russel's age until today. It lasted about a year, then it dissapeared. On retrospect probably a bethelite draw the attention not to advertise the old stuff, someone might ask questions about them.
