  Please help re:objections to Thanksgiving?

  what are the standard jw objections to thanksgiving?

  do they claim there is any kind of a scriptural basis for condemning it?

  i plan on asking someone about this and i'm curious what types of reasoning they might try to throw at me.

  Good grief it has been SO long since I had to deal with this, it had actually slipped my mind. This one never made sense to me either. In my family we did the Friday thing too, but we did one other thing that was technically allowed. We celebrated my parents wedding anniversary, which was Dec 31st, just like Christmas minus the decorations. We'd have a big dinner and exchange gifts. My parents loved it because they got all the after Christmas sales. We never advertised it, probably because no one wanted to have them put a stop to it.

  he said that he's is leaving field service and is on his way home.

  i told him to bring something to eat but not anything too heavy.

  My first "real" Thanksgiving...

  do you remember as a jw those pseudo-thanksgiving dinners we used to have?

  you know the ones, where we ate turkey, dressing, and all the rest....but we did it on friday so we woudn't be celebrating thanksgiving like the "world"?

  the excuse was that everyone in the family was off, the turkey was on sale, blah blah... well this year will be my first real thanksgiving dinner.

  Well ok I was going to edit my post but the website is playing games with me. I was going to add that this type of thing is why I no longer have a land-line. Cell phone only. I only RARELY get a call like that. I'd say in three years I can count them on one hand.

  imagine this.. well before you are born, your dad plays college hockey at providence college and wears the "c" for friars coach and hockey hall of famer lou lamoriello.

  your dad is then a member of the calder cup-winning maine mariners ahl team.

  he admits to having little skill, but contributes rough and tough qualities.

  This is awesome, thanks for posting it. It's still incredibly difficult to be "out" in professional sports today. I hope Brandon has an amazing career, he sounds like truly nice person.

  Stumbling Your Fellow Brothers

  i just felt the need to express my thoughts on the matter of "stumbling others" in the congregation.

  they tell you that you are accountable for your own soul and responsible for your own spirituality, and then they tell you that you can't do something if its going to stumble your brother.. if a brother/sister sees me doing something not condemned in the bible but maybe is a matter of conscience and he/she is stumbled...why is that my fault?

  what makes me accountable for that?

  This one never made sense to me, either. I've told this story before but I'll tell it again. One year while I was a reg pioneer, my pioneer partner and I went to the World's Fair in Spokane WA. We paid our ticket and just as we went in the gate, we were accosted by a clown. Now, this clown had on the full costume and paint, right down to the massive oversized shoes. He starts teasing me, and so of course, I joked back with him. Whole thing took under a minute and we were on our way inside to see the wonders of the world.

  I get home and the next day I have a phone call. The JC wants to meet with me. JC?? WTF?? Well it seems the sister was "stumbled" by me "flirting" with this clown.

  This is ridiculous to the point of exhaustion.
