How Many Here Were Turned Down For "Privileges" Because You Weren't "Exemplary"?
by minimus inour odd body of elders would not allow the one person who wanted to mow the lawn at the kingdom hall to do this because he was not getting 10 hours in a month, he was only getting in 7. seriously.. were you ever told you couldn't have a "privilege" because you didn't measure up to their lofty standards?.

Saturday Morning Coffee while Waiting for the Freezing Rain to Move In
by AdaMakawee inmy part of oregon is getting a dose of winter this weekend.
in fact the cold weather started over the course of last week.
the pond in front of my apartment is iced over and even the hardiest of canadian geese have stopped flying over looking for a spot to land in.

I sucked at field service, I'm not ashamed to say it! Something to be thankful for now.

My part of Oregon is getting a dose of winter this weekend. In fact the cold weather started over the course of last week. The pond in front of my apartment is iced over and even the hardiest of Canadian Geese have stopped flying over looking for a spot to land in. This morning the heron flew in and landed next to the water, hunkering down and looking to make sure it was really true there is no place to feed. Poor guy must be hungry.
They say we'll have freezing rain in the next hour, its already up past Salem and headed our way.
I'm just sitting here with my coffee watching my Saturday morning unfold.
How are things in your neck of the woods this morning?

Convention Parking Scam - What exactly is it?
by cantleave inoften mentioned but some of us don't know what it refers too (except the fact they charged for parking when they didn't have too - could be argued it offsets the cost of stadium hire).
is there a specifc example with how much money is raised?.

Its been a long time, but I thought I remembered the tickets were $5.00. I could be mistaken but $4.00 doesn't ring a bell.

There were about six conventions in Tacoma per summer (guessing), and the dome was filled at these conventions. I don't know how many seats that is, perhaps 20,000. Say one car per four people. That works out to 5,000 cars X $4.00 - $20,000 per convention roughly, or x6 - $120,000. This was a big deal where I came from when this news broke. Talk about cognitive dissonence when the rank and file tried to work out a way to make this ok.

I attribute it to having an open mind to new experiences. That includes all of the items in this report. People aren't as likely to be religious drones now as they were in the 50s and 60s. We are also somewhat more tolerant.

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?
by DubR inhiya guys and gals.
im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

As others have said, a break is helpful sometimes. I've taken a couple of them. I always enjoy posters that mix it up a little and aren't cookie cutters of everyone else. I'll miss your posts.

I can't drum up much energy to care about this one way or another. I kind of tend to see both sides. If anything it seems to me that it stirs up more in the countries outside the ban, kind of like the Malawi debacle. Writing campaigns and persecution complex, end is close type propaganda.

Women as second class citizens
by iMARX ini don't know about anyone else, but even when i was 14 or 15 i had an issue with the fact that women are weaker vessels than men and we are to be submissive to our "head" of the house etc.... people just assumed i was a moody teenager trying to be cool by disagreeing with those scriptures but i was a feminist in the making.. i even asked an elder's wife about it and i said to her: "you're a headstrong woman, how do you feel about this?
do you think you should succumb to paul's every word and do as he says all the time??".
she replied: "i hate that scripture too sarah.

And when you start not believing this part of the bible, you can start looking at the rest of it and wondering how much sense it makes (none).
