Here's an update to what has happened since I used the words, "Big News," five years ago
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/103353/1/the-news-is-bigger-than-dateline-bbc-cbc-etc.
as many of you know, i made the "big news" statement when kerry louderback-wood's scholarly article about watch tower's blood misrepresentation that was published in the journal of church and state was just about to be published.
i was excited about it because lives were at stake and weve never had such an article before to be able to use to show how the watch tower misrepresents the blood issue through its literature and people die because of it.

OK, this bugs me. Two of my cousins were talking on FaceBook (different families), both are in, one more than the other. The one was molested by her dad, who never went to meetings for the 40 years I knew him. One says to the other, I miss my dad, he was the kindest man I know. The other says, I just can't wait to see him in the New System.
Did they change the criteria? Hello! This guy doesn't fit anyone's criteria.
What is wrong with JWs when it comes to this issue?

Hey, you guys are pretty literal. I get the same thing because I'm a pagan. And I don't pray with them either. But I just don't pay attention when they react to it. Because they react to me in that way doesn't start a fight. I choose not to fight. It takes two to tango.
I was substituting any other belief system. Mine, Islam, any. We all get it. Some because they dress a certain way, don't have to open their mouths. I choose not to wear my pentagram to work for that reason. But unless you are in a part of the world where they are going to shoot you because you are an athiest, I think that "persecution" is a pretty strong word.
Also different parts of the planet are more accepting. However, I have not known the part known as JWN to be that way.

What I see alot of, is athiests coming into a religious thread and talking smack. Then people react to that by being defensive and saying things that are personal. Then the athiests call them on it and more trash talk occurs.
The only "persecution" I have seen is self induced in that way. Not saying that is everyone's experience. But unlike a person's race, no one will KNOW you are an athiest unless you open your mouth.
I think anyone in the minority gets picked on by the majority.

Does Genesis 19 condemn Homosexuality?
by brotherdan inthere are many "proof" texts that people (including jws) use to justify their rejection of anyone that is gay.
there are a few scriptures that you can pull up and try to make a case for show homosexuals why they are evil and wrong.. i've been researching more of these scriptures and i'm coming to some very different conclusions than many other christians hold, especially jws.
i wanted to talk about the first text used by many people to condemn homosexual behaviour.

Tammy,
If you go "strictly by the account" -- it was written by men. Now I'm not saying anything generically about a gender, just casting a comparison to modern days with JWs, with Catholics, etc., in which case men in power were protected and lies were told, in order to point out that the over arching attitude at the time was used to write the account. I very much doubt if the women had written it, the account would have read the same.Ada

Way back in the early 80s when I was in Eastern Washington state I got a new manager at the bank I worked at. After she found out I was a witness she made sure to give me a ride to a meeting one day (bank meeting) and had a religious tape on that used the name over and over. She told me that she knew the JWs said they were the only ones and she wanted me to know that it was a lie. I think you hear it more and more lately.

Video and pictures just coming in from the world wide protest!
by koolaid-man init was thrilling to participate in the world wide protest, jan, 21-23 2011 exposing the watchtower organization for their policies on deliberately breaking up up families.
we thank all those involved this past weekend for their passion and commitment to help free those trapped in falsehood.
i am aware that many on this forum do not believe in protesting against the watchtower society, and i respect their position.

What turns me off is not the attempt to get people out of the WTS. Go for it. My turn off on the whole thing is the, get out of that high control religion and come join ours.

At least they'll be able to collect social security if nothing else.
Not necessarily. There's a bill up right now that takes it away from anyone not already 55. I swallowed the no education kool-aid and may not even have social security. I'm 54. Pretty scary for the likes of us.
