My convention is next month, and I'm not looking forward to it. I've always hated the dramas too. I'm glad I located this forum though, because now I know ahead of time what BS they're trying to present as history.

2010 drama: historicity of Christians leaving Jerusalem between Roman wars
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite insorry if this has already been discussed, i haven't been around here a lot and i have this question for any history buffs.. this summer's dc is a fictionalized account of first century jehovah's witnesses (gag), leaving jerusalem right after the first attack by rome and fleeing to pella.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/194498/1/drama-audio-only.
other than jesus "this generation" prophecy, the bible mentions nothing directly about this.
even john, who wrote his gospel and letters afterward, makes no hint of events in jerusalem during that era.

I can't see the video. The internet nazis where I work have blocked youtube. Everytime we figure out a way around it, they figure out another way to block it.
This made me laugh. The nazis where I work haven't blocked Youtube or Facebook yet. But for unknown reason blocked ESPN. WTF?!?!?!?!

Should we use the form Jehovah today? 1st part of two part article
by wannabe inshould we use the form jehovah today?.
i feel it safe to say that the christ knew his fathers name, evidenced by the fact that he said he had made it known in the first century to all of his followers.. .
{john 14:15-17}.

I hate the overuse of "Jehovah". Even if assuming that Jehovah is in fact God's name, the Writing Department seems to be in a competition to see who can fit the name the most times per article. During the Service Meeting on Tuesday, the final part delivered as a talk, the brother said Jehovah so many times that it started to sound peculiar to me. I don't know if this sounds sensible or not, but its as if the name has become a caricature of itself.
On another note, ever notice JW's really downplay the use of Yahweh as if its inappropriate to use that translation.

Australian brothers VERY negative comments regarding new "generations" ... some leaving Bethel..will this blow up in the Watchtowers face?
by Witness 007 ina brother i spoke with from bethel to me seemed discouraged and lacking zeal latley...he spoke of leaving which shocked me since he was there for decades...he left to get a full time job!!!
it was his whole reason for living since i've known him!
others have said the new doctrine of "blended generations" of anionted seeing armagedon is "confusing" or "i just don't get it"...one brother my only close friend is furious and said i qoute..."they seem to be blowing smoke up our ass!

Many posters keep mentioning the 1995 Generation Change, and I just wanted to briefly share a different perspective. I graduated high school in 94", and if you would have asked me, or any other JWs around my age back then to explain the Generation doctrine, you would have got a deer in the headlights look. Its just one of those things that I don't believe is discussed heavily or reviewed often. Even now that I'm "conscious", I'm noticing this teaching change really wasn't that big of a deal in the congregation I'm at. My father who's getting up in years, and who usually does the WT study went over the article in question to make sure he understood it correctly, which he did. The part that stood out to me was, he didn't even remember the previous changes to this teaching. My mother who is an Uber-Nazi-Dub, who is on top of everything despite her getting up in years, didn't remember the previous teachings either. When over my folks home last week, I mentioned to my father that Jaracz just died and he didnt even know who Jaracz was. I mentioned to him that Barr is the oldest member. He responded, "I remember him." I'm thinking to myself, "great." I told him with the new generation change, the average GB mbr's age is mid 50's-60's I'm guessing, and that "this thing"(system of things that is) has the potential to go on for quite a while depending on how young newer annointed contemporaries are. He responded, "this thing is close Misery. It can't go on any further!" After talking with him, and knowing many are similar to him, I'm under the impression that those "aware" of the impact of this change and others are still a minority.

I can relate to you. A couple times now I've hung out with workmates briefly after work, and I truly enjoyed myself. They didn't curse, they weren't drunk, they weren't looking to "hook up", etc.. Most of them were Christian, some married, but all in all decent people. Not saying one has to be Christian and married to be decent either. Of course in the JW world, Christian or nonChristian, if you're not a JW, you're no good. But the couple times I've hung with these folks, I found myself thinking, "so this is what the worldlies do." The other thing was, I truly enjoyed the times I've spent with these worldlies. Granted, I felt like a martian studying earthlings, but I still had fun. It wasn't like the regimented fun experienced at congregation picnics, gatherings, or the friggin meetings(which by the way, I'm starting to detest). At the end of the evening spent with the worldlings, I walked away with a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my face, thinking to myself, "I've got to get out more often, and I don't mean field service either."
Good for you JEdi!

The company I work for rents out several floors in an office building. This JW works for the actual office building, specifically in a little mini concession stand, with things like overpriced chips, soda, etc.. So I'm walking through the revolving doors this morning, and I see her. Elevators can be a mofo in the morning some days. Not enough elevators, too many people going to too many different floors. And we got 40 floors, with several different companies renting. But today, a group of people got on one elevator just as another empty elevator opened up. Another group of people I assumed were going to run towards the elevator didnt. I'm guessing they were awaiting a liason to meet them in the lobby. So I acknowledged psycho-dub, saying, "Hey! G'Mornin! Gotta get this elevator!" She looks at me, holds up the Daily Text(Examining the Scriptures Daily 2010) like she was street witnessing, and asks out loud, in front of everybody, "Did you have your breakfast?!?!?" You know I almost tripped into the elevator. I could have killed her for that. I don't mind letting people know I'm a JW. At the same time however, I don't advertise it unprofessionally either. At least have some dignity with this misfit religion. She's done this before, and I think I'm going to have to approach her about this.
You ever have fellow JWs either in school or at work, or other social situations do something embarrassing that puts you on the spot? Ever have JWs put you in an unwelcomed spotlight? Especially an unnecessary light?

WT advice about unbelieving mates or DF'ed family members
by OnTheWayOut inthis is a revival of an old thread: http://www.jwsupportforum.com/index.php?topic=8144.0;topicseen.
i revived it as i was looking for it to show to someone else.. it seems they wish they could legally kill people's own family members.
since they cannot, they encourage believing mates to prostitute themselves with the unbeliever- trade sex (marital due) for financial support.. here's the older wt article that reveals "their" attitude toward unbelieving or df'ed family members:.

I wonder if we'll see a softening of that hardline way of thinking as the old guard dies off. That kind of emotion from a 1952 WT was right up Jaracz /Rutherford/Knorr avenue. Fred Franz only researched how disbelievers used to be handled. Granted, they quit printing material as outright scary as that article, but the mentality of "damn those apostates" is still alive and kicking, and got a juice of voltage after the R.Franz incident. I'm wondering now that since many of those players from those years are dead and forgotten or senile, will they get some humanity and lighten on that attitude. Quit pitting family against family.

When I was younger, my Elder dad wouldn't let me get a flat top, or a boxcut, cameo, whatever you wish to call it. He finally gave in, but with a hitch. He chose my barber which was a dude he grew up with. Also, he would let me go to the barber on my own, but in this particular case he made sure he was with me. So the barber was cutting my hair and he did a perfect flat top. My dad's JW-what-will-the-friends-think side kicked in and he said, "naw, take some more off the top." So the barber cut some more off the top. My dad was like, "naw, its still too much. Take some more off." By the time dude got done and my dad was finally satisfied, I had a military buzz cut. So it was flat, but it was bald in the middle, and bald on the sides with no fade to it. It was terrible. I got clowned so bad that summer.
Nowadays, I keep my hair shaved completly like a lotta "brothas" do. My mom used to hate when I first started getting all my hair cut off during my high school years. She thought I looked like all the other thugs. Sad to say, even Black people think, "shaved head + black male=thug." Every now and then I grow a soul patch which some older conservative brothers in the hall give me a strange look, but none will say anything. There's more of a stigma I've noticed with White dudes having soul patches than Black brothers. Maybe Shaggy from Scooby Doo caused the bad impression on White guys with soul patches.
It's only hair. Friggin hair. A religion that dictates hair style should be a warning to anybody having some doubts.

Your BA Degree, and your pending MA degree pales in comparison to the theocratic education you could have recieved through the faithful and discreet slave class. Think of all the demonstrations you missed at the Service Meeting, and the #1, #2, #3, and #4 talks during the Theocratic Ministry School? We even recieved a new maroon book that is bigger than the old little maroon book. There is no education like a theocratic education.
