I've got all of Nietzsche's works. There's one thought he had I completely agree with him on. I wish I could remember exactly how he quoted it, maybe you or somebody can help me. It was a paragraph on religion, and he likened it to a disease where the sick wished to infect the healthy with their disease. Initially I didn't understand it, then it hit me, his quote accurately describes JWs and specifically the WTS. We're born with so many gifts, and so much potential, but we supress all of this because we're taught that its selfish to persue anything that doesn't involve the WTS. When I used to lurk here, I didn't know what to make of WTWizard's comments, but I've always loved and agreed with him calling this religion a Cancer. I label it the same now too. Nietzsche was right on religion.

Works of Nietzsche, Paine, Wilde
by SweetBabyCheezits inin the past, i was hardly keen on reading for pleasure but i have been cracking open some of the more, uh, classic(?
) writings lately in an attempt to broaden my limited understanding.
i'm pretty taken with thomas paine's the age of reason at the moment but i've also come across a number of quotes from nietzsche and oscar wilde that make a great deal of sense to me.

My daughter hated me and her dad
by thenoblelodge ini was told yesterday by my daughter that when she was younger she hated me and her dad.. she wasn't beaten, she was allowed to play with friends other than jw's, had parties, always had kids round to play, jw and worldlies ( i hate that term).
i could go on.. the reason she hated us was because we encouraged her on numerous occassions to stay in the borg.. what i find so distressing is, i cannot believe the power we had over her.
we kept her going in something that was killing her mentally, emotionally and physically and all the time saying 'don't take it out on jehovah, it's not his fault, don't you think he knows what's going on.

If only more JW parents would realize this. Somedays I equate JWs rearing children with being tantamount to child abuse. I wonder at times though if this was what Jesus meant when talked about division in Luke 12:49-51.

Okay, What do JW Posers get from this site?
by TD inthere was a person here years ago who claimed to be both an active jw and anointed but did not know who the "domestics" were in the nwt's rendering of matthew 24:45. it's not that i don't understand why people on the internet might claim to be something they're not.
they get a level of recognition that is lacking in real life.
therefore it makes sense that a disaffected jw might claim to hold a position of authority and/or prestige in the jw community that is entirely fictitious.. my question is why do people pull that stunt here when:.

I think some of them are just having fun. This forum is very sensitive, I guess in part because Jehovah's Witnesses are very sensitive. This is the next level, not just sensitive JWs, but sensitive XJWs. If your the type of person who likes to mess with people for fun, well this forum is a gold mine. I get the urge every now and then to let my inner troll rear its ugly head. Especially when my work is completed, and I've got another 15 minutes to go before punching out. Imagine the fun I'd have being home all day with access to JWN.

Do you know of ones who were mentally ill, that were labled as being demon posessed?
by miseryloveselders inwe have a few mentally ill ones in our congregation, and i don't mean suffering from depression or anxiety.
i'm not even talking mild bipolar.
i'm talking really messed up in the head, schizophrenic types, and bipolar withpsychotic features.

Serenity, I am in the healthcare profession, and have been for several years and multiple facets. She might see a psychiatrist regulary for all I know. However, I'll never know because she rambles on about things that are not of this reality. It's really bizarre talking to her. It's almost as if she's speaking a foreign language.

I don't want to come off like I'm overly demeaning her, because I'm not. I'm sympathetic. The thing is, she's beyond encouragement to seek help. She's gone, as in gone. She's not the type of person you can talk with and find some rational thought in between the lunacy. Its really sad, but there's nothing I or anyone can do. The only thing I can hope is, that if she has been seen by someone, they've deemed her not a threat to herself or anybody else. I've taken her home several times against the advice of others and tried to have a reasonable conversation with her no matter how limited it might be. I just wanted to get into her head if i could. But there is no getting in her head. Its over.

We have a few mentally ill ones in our congregation, and I don't mean suffering from depression or anxiety. I'm not even talking mild Bipolar. I'm talking really messed up in the head, schizophrenic types, and bipolar withpsychotic features. You know, people who have been committed at one point or another in life. One of the nuts in the hall, is a woman who is completely removed from reality. Conversations with her are so bizarre, they're comical, if you have a sense of humor. I enjoy talking with her, because I'll try to go to her level and talk just as crazy. Later on I laugh about it to myself and with those who share my sense of humor. Plus I think in some twisted kind of way, I give her some dignity. As a result she searches me out to talk moreso than others, and for the most part I don't mind. For those that don't see the humor in it, its a different story. These ones believe she's demonized. Even my Dad whom I thought was a sensible person, explained to me, "the demons are using her. To get to me, to get to others in the congregation. To disrupt the congregation." My response, "how come I don't find her disruptive? Granted shes nuts, but that doesn't make her demonized." His response, "Misery, thats because the demons aren't after you." At that point it dawned on me that my father is nuts too. It gets better too. My father, "the things this woman is talking about would be enough for us to go after her for apostacy. But as it stands, there's nothing we can do with her because of her mental state. The demons have her." My father is not only nuts, but pious too. I just laughed at him partially because I found it hilarious that he was dead serious. The other part of me felt embarrasment and pity for him to be this delusional. How can a reasonable person look at another person with serious menal illness and chalk it up to...................the demons? I kinda wanted to cuss, like dang this is my friggin father!!! Arghgh
Do you know of ones who were mentally ill, and supposedly rational people, yet blamed the mentally ill's condition on the demons and percieved them as some kind of spiritual threat?

Sexism and the Organization
by brotherdan ini know this may be a touchy subject, but it's something that i think has been so obvious for the last few weeks at the meetings.
let me start by saying that i do understand the "headship" arrangement, and agree that it is biblical.. but it seems that the tendency is to take it way too far.
whenever speaking about training children, i've noticed that the boys are told to be trained by their fathers in various types of work, including trades.

To be fair though, yesterday's WT lesson had a picture of a sister doing construction work. She was on a scaffold, with a hardhat, harness, the whole 9. Women in Bethel do run forklifts, and do other jobs that we usually take for granted are men's jobs. So maybe things are changing a bit.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 07-11-10 WT Study (WOMEN SUBMIT)
by blondie incomments you will not hear at the 07-11-10 wt study (may 15, 2010, pages 12-16)(women submit).
jehovah has established the orderly sequence that the apostle paul mentioned when he wrote that "the head of every man is the christ" and "the head of the christ is god.
what man is their head?.

I don't really have anything add than what's already been said. Just wanted to mention, the song about women that preceded the WT study was so beyond horrendous. In my life I don't think I've heard anything quite that bad. The audience at my hall kinda gave up on it. Lyrically, musically, it was just trash, and depressing to listen to and sing.
