I don't want to sound like I'm whining and for the record, I'm not mad at my parents at all. I love them dearly, and I have many fond memories of my youth despite the JW upbringing. At the same time, I often wonder what it would have been like to play sports during my school days. Or play in a band or belong to an afterschool club, etc.. 1 Cor 15:33 ruined any chance of me ever participating in any of those activities. To add insult to injury, the WTS likes to print articles telling me that they did me and my parents a favor by discouraging those activities. Why? Well, evidently youth who participate in such activities end up getting involved in sexual promiscuity and STDs, or get involved in drug and alcohol abuse. Besides, wouldn't I much rather spend my time pioneering or studying one of the Society's latest publications? Or watching on of the several DVDs that the Society has put out in recent years? Or attending congregation gatherings? Or going to Bible character costume parties? This kid in the Shell commercial is doing something I wish I could have done when I was younger. I was too busy doing the aforementioned things the WT Society encourages youth to do. Do any of you born-ins feel like you missed out on somethings? Even if your not a born-in, did you miss out on anything due to this cancer of a religion.

This commercial illustrates why I envy those who didn't grow up in a JW household.

A Simple explanation of the Faithful Slave!
by wannabe ina simple explanation of the faithful slave!.
the holy writings should show us just who that was, without too much difficulty.. 1"in the past god spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
3the son is the radiance of god's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

What gets me is I've never seen an article from the WT that explains why the Faithful & Discreet Slave is supposed to be a class. I've never seen any article or paragraph that explains why this isn't simply a parable or illustration. The Writing Department just figures if they keep printing that they're the Faithful & Discreet Slave, then their readers will just assume thats correct. Maybe Blondie can find something, but in all my searches on the CD Rom, I've never located anything to support their interpretation of this parable. The Insight Book takes a potshot at Christendom stating something along the lines of, "most of Christendom incorrectly believes this verse is about the responsibility of individual Christians." I can't recall exactly how they have it quoted, and I'm at work right now so I don't have access to the CD-Rom or Insight Books. But even in the Insight Book, they don't make a convincing argument explaining why the Slave is a distinct class, and why this only applies to them.

Sola Scriptura

The Resurrection of the Righteous and the Unrighteous
by Perry inone saturday morning after eating at a restaurant, my family and a group of witnesses left the restaurant at about the same time.
so, i struck up a conversation and eventuallly tactfully questioned them about how they hoped to have their sins forgiven since official wt doctrine is that jesus is only the mediator for the 144,000. .
after bantering a bit and trying to have it both ways, one man essentially claimed that the whole point was moot because there was going to be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.

Hey Perry, I agree with you, and for the life of me cannot understand why or how this doctrine became set in stone amongst JWs. How much sense does it make to state that a person can rob, murder, steal, rape, pillage, plunder, etc., but if that person dies, then all is forgiven because he has a clean slate. That just doesn't make sense. I also believe in works being a necessary part of salvation in the sense that if you have faith in Christ, your actions will be an open testimony to your love for and faith in Christ. Family members do things on behalf of one another because they love each other. The same should be with Christians in following Christ's example and His teachings. People should be able to recognize a Christian by their actions and words. I don't agree with works as JWs put it, in the sense of placing magazines, or how many hours you spent in the field, or how regular your meeting attendance is. With the exception of teaching people whats in the Bible, and helping them to correct whats wrong in their moral and ethical outlook in life, all those other JW Works are moot. I'm glad you did this thread, cuz this is one of those teachings where even as a teenager who could care less about the Bible, the JW teaching on this subject made absolutely no sense to me.

I'm probably late on this, but Alice, do you ever write anything that comes from your own heart, mind, and speech? I get the feeling its impossible to talk with you because the reality is I'm talking with somone who cuts and pastes everything. People ask you a question, and you cut and paste something from Wikipedia. Or you cut and paste from the WT CD Rom. Can you answer anything or state anything in your own words? Are you human? You kind of remind me of serial killers who paste different letters from different formats onto a blank sheet of paper and mail it to the police to taunt them.

Dealing with the reality of death. How do you?
by confliction insince i've come to the realization and conclusion that i've been living a fictional lifestyle for the last 17 years, i've also come to identify with agnosticism.. .
but one issue that's been taking it's emotional toll on me lately is the realization of the fictitious paradisiac earth.. it was the ultimate goal as a witness- the answer to everything.
even if you had questions that couldn't be answered, you were to "wait until the paradise and ask" when you got there.. .

One of my favorite movies is No Country For Old Men. Towards the end, one old timer was giving advice to a younger cop who was having a difficult time accepting that the world was changing, he was getting older and would die eventually. He told him, "What you got aint nothing new. This country is hard on people, you can't stop what's coming. It aint all waiting on you. Thats vanity."

I think I know where your coming from. The more I reexamine my beliefs and read the Bible without "Bible Aids", the more I understand agnosticism. I've never had an unhealthy fear of death, just an unhealthy fear of how I might die. I don't want to drown or get eaten by an animal. I'd prefer to get shot if possible. But as far as a hope for the future, I don't know what to believe. Ecclesiastes talks about the dead being conscious of nothing. Jesus prior to raising someone from the dead referred to that one as sleeping. At the same time Acts and Revelation talk about resurrections of the dead, both righteous and unrighteious, and a judgement for both, which flies in the face of WT doctrine that upon one's death their sins are paid for and whether or not Jehovah considers them worthy of Him remembering and resurrecting them. The Bible is too limited in information, and my outlook and belief system is too tainted by a WT upbringing. It's to the point that I don't know what to believe, and I'm aggravated enough that I'm starting to not care any longer.
If I die, so what. If I live, well thats great, but if not, oh well. Kind of like the saying, I can't miss what I've never had. That same kind of reasoning can be applied toward a paradise earth. In a cynical way I say to myself, "I'm a city boy anyway." Being completely honest, I find a heavenly hope more attractive than an earthly hope. The Christian/Greek side of the Bible's message leans more to a heavenly hope than an earthly one, and I find it more attractive. But if its not to be for me, well, so be it. I've had some good times in this life.
