As someone who left in the mid 1990's I find this concept very odd. Its never been so clearly defined in this way. I can't help but think that people from my era, that are still in, are not very troubled by this version of the GB.

Interesting quote on leadership - what do you think re: the Governing Body?
by sir82 intoday i read a newspaper columnist who wrote something that caught my attention:.
"...obedience is a natural response to effective leadership, and this is true regardless of whether the people being led are adults or children.".
now, think about the gb.. virtually every wt "study edition" contains at least one, if not several, reminders about how we should "obey the gb".. dozens of the songs in the new song book extol how worthy of obedience & devotion the gb is.. each assembly & convention features dozens of reminders on how important it is to be obedient & submissive to the gb.. service meeting parts routinely offer "loving reminders" of how jws should obey the gb re: conventions, literature, donations, etc.. .

Don't leave, its God's organization....
by dissed inrecently, i've been seeing this argument displayed here more frequently by those still believing jw's.. usually in reply to arguments they can not answer well, like 1914, generation(s), etc.... its almost like, they are are having serious doubts as well, but their fall back is, "but its god organization....where else would you go......don't leave, we are so close to the end".
as one recently shared their experience with a jc.
the elders, when feeling trapped on explanations, fell back to this defense.

As one recently shared their experience with a JC. The Elders, when feeling trapped on explanations, fell back to this defense. "But its God's organization, stay close, even if you don't understand something!" When they should've been trying to overcome this persons doubts, they side stepped the issues important to him. How could they save him with this defense? Shouldn't his years of service deserve at least that?
They failed to realize those were foundational arguments. If you can not answer them, then its NOT God's organization. Instead they were like saying, "Just close your eyes and believe and everything will turn out right."
So my question is...Have you noticed this reasoning is becoming more of a frequent occurance? "You don't have to understand those complicated things, just stay with us"And how have you been answering it?

Local Congregation Greed
by pr0ner inmy dad told me a few weeks ago about a interesting situation in his hall.
ends up an older women died and had given her home to the kingdom hall.
well they decided to sell her home.

We had a JW years ago (1974) leave her home to the WTS. The Elders were instructed to sell it and send the money to the WTS.
One of the Elders bought the house at half the market value. No one in the congregation knew of the transaction, in fact none knew she donated it to the WTS.
I only found about the sale because one Elder felt slighted that he didn't have the oportunity to purchase it for his home rental business.
Would that transaction qualify for the greedy label?
First, taking away potential lost money to the WTS, then selfishly doing a secret deal for the benefit of one?
These people are REALLY duped in leaving their belongings to the real greedy one, the WTS. Its not eneough the WTS rapes them while living, but then robs them after they die.

by notverylikely inthese are the details of my disfellowshipping.
the names and locations have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty.
my errors are not hidden in an attempt to make me look better, this simply is a presentation of the facts that led up to the disfellowshipping and a re-telling of the contents of the meeting.. .

How many JW's are doing bad things each year worthy of being DF'd?
by dissed infor a religious group that claims to be above reproach, with a self proclaimed, excellent reputation for godliness, i don't feel that claim is quite true.. in fact, i think its a sham to make those assertions.
they trully should not feel they are different from any organized group, when it comes to its members following righteous standards.
true, the wt would like all to believe they are clean and morally straight, that they are different and not tainted from the world.

For a religious group that claims to be above reproach, with a self proclaimed, excellent reputation for Godliness, I don't feel that claim is quite true.
In fact, I think its a sham to make those assertions.
They trully should not feel they are different from any organized group, when it comes to its members following righteous standards. True, the WT would like all to believe they are clean and morally straight, that they are different and not tainted from the world. But again, I feel, that is simply not the case.
What I'm talking about is 'serious wrongdoing' as the JW's have coined the term. They will claim they don't tolerate that and remove it from the Congregations. But do they really?
First of all, how many are DF'd each year? We actually have some data on that. Does anyone remember? Wasn't it between 45,000 - 75,000 a few years ago? With the incredible growth of the JW Apostasy, it has to be much higher than that now.
But let's assume it is now 75,000 DF'd per year. How many went before a JC and were not DF'd and reproved? At what ratio do you think, 3,4,5 to 1?
If its 4-1, that would mean 300,000 + the 75,000 DF'd committed something wrong and were caught. Factor that over ten years and 3,000,000 were doing bad stuff, and got caught. You pick the ratio and do the math, this was just my experience in my area on JC's. Either way, that's a huge percentage (40%) of JW's that have engaged in 'serious wrongdoing'.
My own extended JW family which numbered at 22 had 10 disciplined over the last 10 years. And this family was considered a decent JW family.(most of those were kids: drugs and immorality)
One nephew told me him and his brother slept around with sisters but never got caught.(They sort of got caught. Their father, who is still an Elder caught them, but never reported it) Which brings up the next part of the equation, how many are doing bad stuff, but are not getting caught. I think quite a bit. And how many again are fading, hiding their apostate reasonings?
Sure, the WT claims they don't allow this and take care of it. Even saying JG's spirit will reveal it in due time, right?!
But the point I'm trying to make, is this group, that makes such claims as to their moral cleanliness, is really far from it. I can't help but think of the illustration of the white-washed graves on the outside, but full of dead man's bones on the inside. They are just as corrupt as any group, but lie and do their best to keep this a secret. To the point of falsely claiming they are different than anyone else.
Just my thoughts. Its certainly not meant to be an exact science, but trying to get ones to see the real truth about this organization.
