I stand corrected. Indeed, Scholar did list his 'celebrated WT scholars' who were all into 'biblical pyramidology.' That thread happened before I became a member of this board which explains how I must have missed it.
I too am looking forward to Niel (scholar) coming on this thread.
this is the first time that i ever refused to go the memorial.
usually i make excuses or fall back on the 'maybe'.
in fact, i have never stated an opinion that differs with anything that a jw at my door says.
I'll be attending it with my wife this year, but I am thinking that it will be my last. I'll probably still go to the assemblies if they are out of town but if they are in town, then no. I seldom attend meetings anymore.
A part of me wishes that it wasn't so hard. I do feel very sorry for them (the witnesses) and what they have to endure. Maybe with a little hope and prayer we can help the ones that we love.

I haven't really read the other responses her but this reminds me of certain Wal-mart customers who get all mad at the kind of service that they expect to get and speak out saying that they will never return to the store. Only to see them back within a week, two weeks tops.

sorry, to be so blunt- for a whole day i have watched people here patting themselves on the back- we're a large army, oohh, look out wt, we might do something, well not today or tomorrow, but someday!
maybe, i have to just accept that a lot of jw's who are exiting the kh by the back door will never find a backbone to stand up to mummy and elder daddy.. jw's have a learned ability to see themselves in a better light than everyone else sees them.
ask a jw, if they are a charitable religion and they would likely all say they are, but when pressed to name a charity they will be unable to do so.
Personally, I would love to see a big story casting the society in a bad light that makes a big impact on them the way it has happened to the Catholic church. Perhaps all anyone can do is continue to erode confidence in the society until it finally topples or changes. I think people who expose the scandals involving pedophiles, abuse of the members, and breaking up of families make a small impact one chink at a time.
Russia already sees them for the cult that they are and I agree with you, the main problems I have are their blood doctrine and the way they tear apart families. If they want to believe that Jesus is Michael the Archangel and that he began reigning invisibly in 1914 and that Armegheddon is just around the corner, so be it.
At any rate, people who have stood up publically to the society at least made an impact on me and my decision on whether or not I would join. That is at least worth something.

The celebrated Watchtower scholars are obscured by anonymity or possibly dead.
How convenient, just like the 'celebrated WT scholars' who translated the NWT bible. Obscured and anonymous.

As an outsider, I have been reading this thread with interest but have refrained from posting due to the fact that I am neither here nor there in regards to my being a witness and a fader.
But I must take some issue with the results of the men who bravely stood up to the society and paid a high price for taking that stand. People like Raymond Franz, Carl Olof Johnson, Leonard Chretin and others. What are their effects on the society. Did they successfully weaken the society?
You see, unfortunately, to died in the wool witnesses, they will never listen to the words of these 'apostates' and the society is quick to do damage control minimize their impact. And the outside world seems none the wiser, unable to verify the claims of either side.
When I think of the effects of these people, I think of the people who tried to expose the scandals of Bill and Hillary Clinton back when Bill was a govenor, or people who try to expose the connection between Cheney and Haliburton. Unfortunately, nothing seems to stick to the society and it is hard for an outsider to know what is what.

I've been doing a little research on this on the Internet and the local library. So far, the only sources that definitively point to 607 BCE for that event are Watchtower sources. When Jehovah's Witnesses are confronted with that question, they will always turn to Insite books and Kingdom Come literature.
Scholar cites 'celebrated WT scholars' as proof of 607 BCE but he never names who they are. Cue Billy the Ex-Bethelite to shed light on who these people are.

If he's truly motivated by his love for God and to serve Him he would find other ways to get the message out instead of insisting he have his right to go door to door. Place mags in laundromats, big stores like Wal-mart, place tracts in restrooms, and do some informal witnessing.
He committed the crime, now he has to pay the fine or do the time or whatever. Accept your punishment like a man.
one of the questions i ask jws before discussing anything with them is:.
"what facts, evidence or otherwise would you consider as proof that jehovah's witnesses are not the true religion?".
