You can't be forced to associate with someone who you don't want to associate with. Sucks for this guy but his "right" to a family life claim is ridiculous and can lead to other frivolous lawsuits by disaffected family members suing other family members who don't want to associate with them for whatver reason.

I loathe authority
by punkofnice innow i'm not preaching hatred here i am just expressing how i've felt for years even when i was a jw.. i totally loathe the police/policticians...any authority......anyone that is over anyone else.
i have a total hatred of them all.
i wonder if it's because i was raised a jw?.

A distrust of authority I've always felt is healthy and should be encouraged.

Was Charles Russell delusional or just a con artist?
by keyser soze ini've seen him referred to as both on this forum.. did he sincerely believe that he was an inspired prophet whose end-time predictions and biblical interpretations came from god?
or was he just a shrewd businessman who saw a market of disillusioned christians who believed that armageddon was imminent that he could exploit?.
i personally lean toward the latter.. .

I think he was delusional and sincerely believed in what he preached. I think some of the later leaders have/may have been con men but I think early on they sincerely believed they were doing the will of God.

Question for the nonbelievers and atheists
by nykid inwhat specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?
was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

Biblical Prohecies That Came True?
by Viviane inrecently there have been several claims made regarding prophecies that came true.
i've not personally seen a prophecy that i would consider as having come true.
i would consider the following as the requirements to say something is a prophecy and evaluate whether or not it came true:.

nykid
Well the prophecy about the Earth being destroyed will come true. In about 5 billion years when our Sun is finished.

Why was such a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT thing as Internet not foretold in the Bible?
by Pinku injws claim that even such a small thing as proclaiming 1986 as the international year for peace was foretold in the bible.
this raises the question: why was such a great thing as internet (the influence of which could not even be compared with anything in the history at all) not foretold in the bible?
with internet and tv the world has become literally a global village!.

A better question is what technological marvel of the 20th or even the 19th century was foretold by the Bible?

Your earliest doubt?
by Apognophos inthis might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).

The earliest real doubts I had were when I found out that Jehovah's Witnesses didn't keep the sabbath. Then it got serious when I found about the constantly changed teachings and then read Crisis of Conscience.

It doesn't feel so good when someone else is bothering you trying to convert you to their foreign thought processes as those Mormons just found out.

Do You Think Prostitution Should Be Illegal?
by minimus inrecently, in my area, a number of people have gotten caught looking to pay for sex from a call girl.
a catholic priest was one of the "johns" that got arrested.. i know there are some that argue that it is debasing.
still, for a million years, it's been going on and there are willing parties who want to engage in this activity.. if two consenting adults want to have sex with one another and are willing to pay and accept the services, is it a horrible thing, in your opinion?.
-
nykid
I have yet to hear a convincing opinion on why it should be illegal.
