The moment the leadership of the WT (a publishing company whose purpose was originally to produce pamphlets and books to edify Christians) first made the claim to be Gods sole channel of communication for dispensing biblical truth here on earth. That not so discreet assumption has now left them wide open to 'everything they teach as Truth'. As a result, every time an error is exposed or a teaching is changed, their credibility will continue to be affected. Let's say they had never claimed to be Gods sole channel of communication, that they continued to offer their thoughts in publications that were written simply to edify Christians faith; and like the other bible student groups allowed each congregation the autonomy to be led by the holy spirit as it was in the first century...... I am sure things would have been much different.

"This Generation" at the meeting today
by Batman89 init was really quite amusing 2day at the meeting when we got to the "this generation will not pass away" subheading in the wt.
the conductor spent very little time on the section and the comments that were given didnt at all make sense really.
you can tell its not understood by the majority of the friendsand will go over there heads, i was trying not to laugh lol.

some great points here. I particularly liked your observations smiddy re generation being somewhere around 50 years. Funny enough, one brother mentioned to me 'that was confusing' during the meeting. I just nodded and said you're not the only one. Afterwards whilst out walking with my wife 'who was brought up in the truth'. I said to her...what decade would you say 2 Tim 3: 1-6 really took off in the 20th century. She automatically said round about late 60's, early 70's. I then mentioned that Jesus said that no one knows the day or hour....so why are the society so dogmatic and fixated about 1914 etc. She just said yeah, but never said anything for or against it. I told her I believe in Jesus words only, not the writings of imperfect men.

thanks for everyone's kind comments. To be honest, I am totally loosening up in regard to such things. I also told my daughter not to feel under any pressure about this or that. She is to start high school after the summer and told her just to enjoy those years....AND to enjoy college and uni if that's what she chooses to do in the future

The elders in our hall are quite nice, but definate organisation men. one elder got the shock of his life when I said I couldn't attend a zone visit as I had committed to working that day. he told me about 2 weeks beforehand. It was as if he was saying in his mind ' what! a GB member giving a talk and you decline an invite to the zone visit

Hi all, ive decided to come back to the forum. Am needing to let of some steam in regards to things in general as finding myself frustrated once again with wt rules policies etc which I will discuss in future threads. I just wanted to ask your thoughts about ex 7:1 as it says that the lord made Moses God to Pharaoh. John 1:1 says the word was God. Surely those who have belief in the trinity can see that Elohim (God) means mighty one, and that Jehovah was making him a mighty one to Pharaoh. and therefore john 1:1 simply means that the word was a 'mighty one'. Any thoughts?

I think the talk that stood out for me that morning was the one about putting on a false front ie puttng on an appearance at meetings etc but doing things we shouldnt be doing as christians such as using technolology re looking at things of a sexual nature, being involved in bad business practices etc. I didnt see anything wrong in what was said......but can understand how someone suffering from depression might feel about themselves if in a dark place. I also heard about the sad news at the convention.......it was very sad to hear this. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and freinds.
