Current science on the creation of the universe?
by tec ini was hoping people could tell me what the current scientific views are on the universe.
do scientists believe it had a beginning, such as the big bang, or that it is infinite - no beginning/no end, etc.
etc.. my husband told me that he thinks the current view is that the universe is slowing down?

I really don't believe that's what your very being wants to be , or to be a model for young children to model their lives after.
And I do know this for sure, you would not have your babies around that...
Well son, many are waiting for you to stop allowing Satan to use you as his puppet
Wow, what a guilt trip! The sad part is, it's obvious from the tone and wording of this message that she actually believes it. She really thinks your son is a tool of the devil because he doesn't do what the organization says to do. I'm happy for your son, that he's able to see through it and start making a life for himself. I'm sad for your ex, that she is so blinded by the organization that she can't imagine any other life.
Peace to you too, Flipper!

Most-Ignored Scriptures by JWs
by Mad Sweeney inthe watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

how about 'people who twist scripture, twist everything'
Were you thinking of Acts 13:9-10?
Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently [10] and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of all uprightness, will you not stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?

I was thinking more about the type of info where a lurker would have to really do some equating to figure out who we are.
Still, I'm careful about which cards I show. In time they can figure out the rest of your hand, especially if a hostile custody lawyer is trying to make you look bad, and more so if you drop hints about where you live, which congregation your family is in, details of unusual encounters with witnesses, etc. Even if the chances of being found out are small, the consequences could be huge. So it's a risk I choose to avoid, and anonymity is how I do that.

Have you hit your 50's? Are you feeling it, or do you still feel young?
by restrangled ini'm curious, because in my 40's i felt like a million dollars.
i am starting to feel it,....i just don't have the stamina of working in the yard all day, coming in making dinner and getting the laundry done at the same time, or working full time.. i see the years in my face when i don't get enough sleep, and no amount of makeup makes a difference.
my eyes seem to always look tired.

What exactly do Jehovah's Witnesses believe?
by chashathaway ini hear a lot, both on this forum and elsewhere, about all kinds of things jehovah's witnesses believe.
but i've never felt that outsiders were a good source of information about what faithful watchtowers actually believe.
in fact, i've discovered that the worst source of information about a religion is from those who were members but left the faith.

Chas, I am serious about checking those links I posted. From chapter 2 of the Watchtower Society's "Truth That Leads to Everlasting Life":
"We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God’s Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination."
Don't be afraid to make that independent examination!

OKKKAAAAYY Now I get it! Another JW Belief Screwing W/My Life "Date To Marry"
by Confuzzled ini have a convaluted relationship w/my jw for-lack-of-a-better-word-bf.

Confuzzled, count me in on the "get a child support order" side. Try to get "full-time gainful employment" language in the support order, so he can't go out full-time pioneering and then cry "poverty" when the support payments are due.
His behavior says he is in no way is ready to be a responsible spouse and parent. "...the next woman he is involved with seriously..." Like fathering a child isn't serious enough? Like the soon-to-be mother of his child is something to be tossed aside when something better comes along?
"...but I do mind the half-assed relationship I'm involved in!" You answered your own question: don't waste your life and your child's life waiting for him to grow up! He shows no sign of living up to adult responsibilities, and for your child's sake you must get on with your life.

Cult Classic,
When you're divorced and your JW Ex has custody of the kids you love, you take pains to avoid giving offense. You know, I know, everybody here knows there's nothing wrong with having an opinion and your own religious beliefs. But maintaining what relationship I still have with my children so I can continue being their father figure is more important to me that "being right" publicly. My Ex and the children are aware that I'm no supporter of the Watchtower, but what do I gain by risking their humiliation (or worse), when an elder reading this board decides to say that I'm a "bad association" (or an "even worse than we feared association")? So I will speak my mind anonymously, until the time comes that anonymity proves to be more hindrance than help. They know me, they see my example, so I don't need to rub their noses in it to make a point. So for now, I borrow the persona of Firesign Theater's favorite father figure:

Yes, and yes. I threw a tennis ball for the dog the other day, ouch! The elbow ain't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing well physically and have lost twenty pounds I didn't need or want. But time has proven it: Toby Keith was right!

Vatican seeks to improve relations with JWs!

in fact, ex-catholics make up a huge number of current witnesses; it is time that we focused on a better relationship with these earnest people..
