For those growing up with a non-JW parent
by JWinprotest injust curious to hear from those that have gone through a similar situation.
my dad was extremely opposed to jw's and went balistic when my mom converted.
he did everything in his power to keep us from becoming witnesses, (forcing us to stay home from meetings, forcing us to go to church with him on holidays) but i think that worked against him, because we viewed it as persecution.. here is my question though.

All about Shelby
by watersprout ini wanted to post this thread about shelby.. she get's a lot of grief by what she posts on this site, so i thought i would start a post on how shelby has helped ones that have left the borg.. i can't begin to explain how shelby has helped me, i felt like i was in a hole and she gave me answers to the many questions i had.
no matter how many emails i bombarded her with, she always took the time to answer.
yes there has been times when i haven't liked what she posted, but i asked christ to help me understand and he did...... shelby helped me to open my mind and come to the realisation that the borg can no longer stop me from becoming the beautiful person i was destined to become.. i think i speak for many when i say thank you shelby!!!!.

Similar to Aussie Oz, I found this place via Freeminds. I started out lurking, to learn more about my wife's religion from an outsider's point of view and how they look at marriage and divorce when she first threatened to take the kids and leave. The information about custody cases was chilling, but also helpful in heading off a nasty custody fight and getting to a place where we can cooperate on the parenting, instead of fighting about it.
I stay because there are many smart, like-minded people to interact with, because it's a place where good support can be given as well as received, because it's a place to vent when that's necessary, because it's a place where expressing your opinions and thoughts is not only allowed but also encouraged, and because here you can disagree with somebody without having to hate them.

At a loss what to do RE: JW family and my kids
by 2pink ini have 2 small kids, ages 4 and 5 yrs and one on the way (via adoption!).
my husband and i faded/suddenly disappeared last fall, never to go back to meetings.
we outed ourselves and told our super hardcore parents/family members that we didn't believe it anymore, were choosing a different path etc.

Jehovah's Witnesses never take this antagonistic rant toward unbelieving family.
Have you seen parents and siblings tear into their own daughter/sister because she was going "apostate" and marrying an unbeliever? I have, and it was ugly. Fortunately she was strong, and married that fine gentleman anyway.
Have you lived through it yourself, Alice? I did, I endured that mistreatment for years for the sake of our children.
These stories are not make believe. These situations are not jokes. It is cruel of you to say that they are.

Questions for BANE, SCHOLAR, and All Jehovah's Witnesses!
by UnDisfellowshipped inyou don't have to answer all of them at once.
i would be happy to see your answers to any of these questions.. remember, the inspired apostle peter gave this direction in the holy scriptures: "always [be] ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of you a reason for the hope in you, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect.
" (1st peter 3:15).

For it is impossible as regards those who have once for all been enlightened, and who have tasted the heavenly free gift, and who have become partakers of holy spirit, and who have tasted the fine word of God and powers of the coming system of things, but who have fallen away, to revive them again to repentance
apostasy is a rebellion against God not an organization
This leads to the conclusion that only annointed members of the faithful and discrete slave class could become apostates. Only the annointed receive the holy spirit. Only the annointed are qualified to taste the fine word of God; the other flock needs the slave class to feed them this spiritual food. The other flock cannot fall away from what they never were part of, therefore, they could not become apostates by this definition.
Very few of us are or ever were annointed members of the slave class. Some of us are not even among the "other flock". In light of this, is it appropriate to refer to all of us as "apostates"?

The Great Pyramid, Lengthy but interesting and factual.
by Leprechaun inits peculiar location.. the great pyramid is situated on an elevated rocky plain, overlooking the river nile, not far from the city of cairo, in egypt.
a remarkable thing in connection with its situation is, that the delta of the nile forms a seacoast which in shape is a true quarter circle, with the great pyramid marking the inner angle.
this relationship of the great pyramid to the coast was discovered by mr. henry mitchell, chief hydrographer of the united states coast survey, who visited egypt in 1868 to report the progress of the suez canal.
