by gubberningbody injehovah's witnesses - this is a claim, not merely a label.
i reject those who adhere to the wtbs as having any legitimate right to that claim and as such this is an example of a language hijack.. .

Galileo's case was more politically motivated than doctrinal. The heliocentric theory was introduced by Aristarchus (for which he was accused of impiety by the Greeks). Copernicus, who was a priest as well as scientist, published his version about a century before Galileo. Galileo's observations supporting the heliocentric theory and subsequent dispute with Fr. Orazio Grassi of Collegio Romano made enemies of powerful clerics, leading to the inquisition for "vehement suspicion of heresy." Galileo had a public dispute with the powerful, Copernicus was one of them and did not: that explains how publishing the same idea produced two different outcomes.

Saying 'grace' at meal times
by lifelong humanist inlong before i dad myself in 2003, i used to feel really bad offering up 'grace' prior to eating a meal with family and/or friends.
it felt totally weird.
i never quite understood the concept.

OK, kidding aside and back to the topic. I find a humble prayer of gratitude to be appropriate: show appreciation for having our needs met, and remember the call to be charitable and help those who go wanting. The Lord's prayer (Matthew 6, Luke 11) is a fitting selection; saying it before a meal in mixed religious company should not offend any Christian.

The spanking room
by dgp ini just got "the spanking room: a child's eye view of the jehovah's witnesses", by william coburn.
the author says that their old kingdom hall didn't have a spanking room, so the spanking took place in the ladies' room.
there was always a line, either for ladies wanting to make use of the toilet the way it was intended to be used, or for ladies waiting their turn to spank their children.

These days, people are also asked to turn their cell phones off. The reason being the same.
Yes indeed, the music minister makes that announcement before announcing the opening hymn!
I believe the official name for the sound-proof annex these days is "mothers' room" instead of "crying room". They're trying to avoid any negative connotation I suppose, but it's still the same idea. It seems like such a logical solution to the problem, I wonder why more parishes don't have one?

We would complain about mothers who took their children to mass knowing full well they interrupt the service.
The Catholic church I grew up attending (and several others I have seen) had a "crying room". There was a thick, sound-proof plate glass window facing the altar, piped in sound, and was located close to the bathrooms for convenient diaper changes. They tried to make it possible for mothers to attend mass without disturbing the service. During those baby boom days, building a crying room was a wise choice for any Catholic parish. It was popular and well used!

Is it unacceptable to stand up for Jehovah's Witnesses on a site called Jehovah's-Witness.net?
by THE GLADIATOR ini fail to see why people such as alice in wonderland, bane and others, are regularly singled out as tolls.
demands are repeatedly made that they are shunned and thrown off the forum; while people like perry, who rant on with pages of controversial drivel, are considered acceptable?.
i personaly don't view any of them as trolls, just people who feel a need to stand up for what they believe.

I think it's entirely appropriate for them to stand up for their beliefs, no matter what the name of the forum is. Being a place for open and honest discussion is the reason the forum and posters are here. When they particpate in a respectful and honest discussion they are as welcome as anybody else. There are active Witness posters who are respected contributors, and this forum is better because of their participation.
What's not appropriate is shouting "liar!" to refute a personal history you have no knowledge of, hurling insults and invectives, being hurtful instead of cooperative, stooping to name-calling and provocation instead of making your point with reason and civility. Yes that applies to both sides, and to instigators and responders alike (I know, I know: "Let he is without sin ..." Mea culpa!).
Long postings may not be to your liking, but so long as they respect other members and the forum guidelines they have just as much right as anybody else to have their say. One man's drivel is another man's sincere belief (and vice versa).

Watchtower spies really would get little benefit from coming on here and playing the part of a troll or troublemaker. That puts the rest of the forum on guard. They won't learn much they wouldn't have otherwise and also create a bad impression for the very ones they want to reach: the "spiritually weak" lurkers who say little if anything, but are listening attentively. I'd call it the "James Bond fallacy": If you want to be an effective secret agent, you avoid calling attention to yourself!
They have more to gain from passive monitoring, finding out what the hot topics the doubters and opposers are discussing so they can publish articles steering the faithful away from the latest "apostacy". They will also find a clue that would help them identify "double agents", playing the part of an elder or MS while quietly holding doubts about the organization. Those who go along for appearance's sake to keep peace in their families should be especially careful about what they say. The organization wants rid itself of such "uncleanness", and a little detail here combined with a casual comment there goes a long way towards identifying you.
