it's been my experience so far, that anything a person wants to find out about jehovahs witnesses, they can find out from jehovahs witnesses.

any and all information ever published by jehovah witnesses is accessible to all.

A good example of this are statements about Joseph Franklin Rutherford (8 November 1869 - 8 January 1942), the second president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society

Forgetting about the first president of the organization is a notable example of the Watchtower's habit of re-writing inconvenient parts of their story. William Conley was the first president, and also provided the majority of the financial backing in the early days.

I'm tired of beening asked to take surveys

yesterday i went to barnes and noble and bought something.

today i get an email from barnes and noble asking me to take a survey about my experience.

i was to receive a coupon for completing it.

Political surveys are particularly annoying until you have the Aha! moment and realize you can have fun with made-up answers. Be subtle, if it's obvious they'll thrown away your responses. I think this is how Election Day "exit polls" sometimes go embarrassingly wrong: people are tired of it all and deliberately lie to the busy-bodies prying into their personal business.

Late middle aged male, stubborn as a mule, play my cards close to the vest (but only in the figurative sense, because I never mastered the poker-face). Dealing with JW Ex and her family convinced me to return to Catholicism after about 40 years of pretending to not care, thus making her a rare witness with a convert to her credit (did I forget sarcastic?).

it is so strange how once you distance yourself from your kingdom hall and friends, that they find it necesary to discuss and contemplate your departure and put out all kinds of statements that simply are not true.. i am licking my wounds today because some kind of nasty things were said about me to a friend of mine who is df, from her ubber righteous sister.

it was via text, so it was there to read.

the thing i can't figure out is i have nothing to do with this woman.

I feel really out of place around those who insist on spreading gossip. First, it's such a dirty feeling to hear about somebody else's private problems. If they wanted me to know, they could tell me! Second, in line with what Palmtree said, I can't help but wonder what the gossip will be saying about me when I'm not around. Yet they wonder why I refuse to "open up" to them!

If you could choose one book to suggest to a JW...

i'm sure this isn't an uncommon question but i'll ask anyway.. suppose you had the chance to suggest one book, essay, article, or other writing with the goal of helping a loved one wake up... which one would it be?.

bear in mind the goal is to subvert the programmed hair-trigger defenses that cause a complete shutdown of critical thinking.

this automatically excludes anything that would directly place the wt society or its history in a negative light.

I'd suggest another Orwell classic, Animal Farm. It is an excellent depiction of sincere believers being abused by corrupt, self-serving leaders who constantly re-write the rules and revise history: "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others." Being allegorical, it's less likely to trigger the Watchtower-conditioned defense mechanisms than books that are overtly about religious cults and their leaders.

It is so frustrating trying to get cable TV

ok my husband and i finally decided to get cable tv, as we finally got a new tv after having our old one for over 15 years.

being it is a flat screen high def we thought we would get cable.. i tried shopping around as all we want is the main networks such as nbc, cbs, abc and pbs.

we really do not watch that much tv as we watch dvd's for the most part plus everyone i know that has the 250 channels of cable only watch the major networks for the most part anyway.

If this is how they treat you as a prospective customer, just wait until you sign the two-year contract. The quality of service isn't likely to improve. I gave up the cable and bought the digital converter to get the local channels. I can buy a couple of new-release DVDs every month with the money I don't spend on cable.

Has anyone knocked on your door recently?

i am a housewife, and no one has knocked on my door to spread the "truth",not even on the weekends.

question, has anyone experienced this... or has the preaching work slowed down?

or are the witnesses less active, zealous?.

No, I never get a knock on the door. They know me, they know where I live, and they know when I'm at work. Another Memorial invitation should show up inside the screen door in a month or so, but that always happens when I'm at work--never when they know I'm here.

To a JW, saying he is "scripturally free" is equivalent to a confession of adultery or fornication. It will encourage malicious gossip about you and your character, which could easily spread beyond the local Kingdom Hall. If you care about your reputation, think about this before saying anything that could be used maliciously against you.

Don't let their teachings control you and what you do. If he chooses to follow the Watchtower and their teachings say he can't remarry, that is his problem, not yours. He chooses to belong, he chooses to follow their rules. Tell him and his mommy there's no reason you should sin to make life easier for him!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! A DIVIDED HOUSEHOLD WILL NOT STAND!!!!!!!!!!!
