If one were to shun and ignore Witnesses does that make one just as bad as them?
by ThomasCovenant infor all the criticism of jehovah's witnesses' shunning policy, if one (an ex jw) were to deliberately avoid contact with witnesses and, dare i say, shun them, does that mean that one is just as bad?.

Besides the institutionalized aspect, there is another big difference. The mandated shunning is not passive or quiet. It is deliberate, insulting, and "in your face". It's not merely a matter of avoiding contact. It means refusing to so much as acknowledge the existence of a human who is in your presence, not offering a polite reply to "good morning, how are you?", looking through the victim and passing by as if they literally did not exist.
There is a difference between peacefully avoiding an unpleasant situation and deliberately causing one through passive-aggressive behavior.

Jehovah's Witnesses - As Objects Of Pity
by metatron ini sometimes have to wonder....... if a subtle transition might take place with regard to the general context of being a jehovah's witness.. a transition away from being objects of hatred towards being legitimate objects of pity.. if this seems far-fetched, consider that some extended witness families have now drifted into having the next generation gone completely or faking it at best.
there are also cases of long term witnesses being accosted by long term co-workers as to 'what happened, i thought armageddon was supposed to be here' (and it's been twenty years).. when you hear a circuit assembly condemn college.... or facebook.... or the internet......or vampire novels, do you ask yourself, "how long can they repeat this stuff?
" i don't think the answer is 'indefinitely'.

Personally, I feel a great deal of sympathy towards individual JW's ... I have fantasies of trying to wake some of them up in some way but unless a person is ready to really hear the real truth, there's not much someone at a distance can do - it really just makes them dig their heels in even more.
Exactly right! For many of them, especially elderly long-timers, the kindest thing can be to just not discuss it. Stick to the common ground, and ignore the WT doctrine.

It reminds me of those "educational" films we used to sleep through in "current events" class in high school. The writing style, the narrator speaking in the same monotone, the same way they strech 45 seconds of actual content into a 15 minute film... If you suffer from insomnia, here's the cure!

Some hotels are anchored in bedrock, some cross the sea at a stately pace, but my favorite hit 100MPH crossing the desert southwest, back in the days when American rail service had real first-class service

If God didnt make a Law against having sex with your daughter
"None of you shall approach any one near of kin to him to uncover nakedness. I am the LORD.
I dont think he cared about abortion.
Genesis 9:5-7 (sanctity of life)
For your lifeblood I will surely require a reckoning; of every beast I will require it and of man; of every man's brother I will require the life of man. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for God made man in his own image. And you, be fruitful and multiply, bring forth abundantly on the earth and multiply in it.
Exodus 21:22-25 (causing "miscarriage" is a crime)
When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
Jeremiah 1:4-5 (humanity of the pre-born)
Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."

Talking Points for when Witnesses Come to your Door

(social media site nonsense) lying on the counter.
it was obvious witnesses had stopped by the house.

The Surprising Faith Of 8 American Presidents... # 6 is interesting!
by koolaid-man inhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/darrin-grinder/the-presidents-and-their-_b_1283210.html.
6. dwight d. eisenhower.
eisenhower may have been instrumental in bringing "under god" to the pledge of allegiance and making "in god we trust" the national motto, but he was reared in a religious tradition that does not allow its adherents to take oaths of office or to recite the pledge of allegiance--the jehovah's witnesses (a religion/denomination born in the united states, as was mormonism).

First, doctrines of the Bible Students of Russell's time differ greatly from the Watchtower Society doctrines of Rutherford (and Fred Franz, etc.). So you cannot claim that Eisenhower ever held beliefs associated with the present-day Watchtower Society merely because he was "born into" a significantly different religion, which he abandoned long before he became president.
Second, going to West Point and fighting in the American army in two world wars marks him as an apostate, not a Witness.
Eisenhower was a Witness about as much as Nixon was a Quaker. (I'm surprised that Nixon didn't earn a spot on this list.)
