Want to hear something funny ?
by troubled mind inmy husband just won the city wide holiday light display for christmas i am so proud .
just a few short years ago i was the one that put a strand of white lights around the porch railing ,and a couple of lighted deer in the yard ....that brought the elders around real quick (after three years of silence ) at that time my husband was still holding onto the notion his faith was not bond to a cult .
it didn't take long after the 'loving sheparding call' for him to see things in another light.

Do the witnesses baptize in Jesus name?
by runForever inhttp://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/are-jehovahs-witnesses-christians/.
the third bullet point there claims they baptize in jesus name.
i know the baptism questions never mention jesus once.. .

GLTirebiter
No, they do not baptize in the name of Jesus. Nor do they, nor would they, baptize in the manner He taught (Matt 28:19):
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Bicyclists
by poppers ini'm wondering what sort of biking shoes and pedals you are using.
i'm a road biker, so i enjoy speed and distance riding, and am upgrading my shoes and pedals.
anyone have experience with specialized road shoes with the boa stem?
-

I used to have those straps that fastened your feet to the pedals and made you lean against lorries at lights.
I left the toe straps slightly loose for city riding, so I could pop the cleat off the pedal at stops. With my first set, there was also the problem of finding a cobbler to install the cleats on my shoes, and who was careful to not nail them on crooked (yes, this was long ago!). Clipless pedals and shoes are a much better solution.

2 Faced JWs and Thanksgiving
by minimus inmany jws enjoy turkey on thanksgiving day and are often discreet about their indulgences.
why be two faced?
why try to excuse it?.
-

As the UBM, I was a convenient excuse for having Thanksgiving a big dinner. I bought the bird, and I prepared it and the pumpkin pies (though she did the dressing, potatoes, side dishes etc.). Just don't utter the "T" word, and don't invite the relatives.
As usual, they are willing to "partake" of the superficial holiday trappings, so long as they deny any and all spiritual meaning for the occasion. They can be the most sort of worldly people during the holidays!

Michael Brown verdict discussion policy
by Simon init's likely that the grand jury verdict on the michael brown incident will be released in the coming days or weeks.. i've no doubt many people are going to feel strongly about things whatever the verdict is.. whatever the outcome though, here's what's not going to happen:.
we're not going to put up with inflamatory language and comments designed to rile others up.
be respectful.. we will not allow accusations of racism simply because some have a view of the verdict that contradicts others.. there will not be invented evidence or claims being repeated - if it's been falsely reported or debunked then it's off limits.. it's not going to be an opportunity for people to air past gripes over past discussions.. if you feel that you cannot discuss the subject in a rational way then it may be better to simply avoid any topics on the matter.. please try to be objective and respectful if you do decide to comment and not keen to take offense.

Let's not confuse a grand jury with a trial. Only the state's case has been examined, not the defense. The prosecutor must demostrate to the grand jury that there are legal grounds to have file charges and conduct an actual trial. If there is no indictment, that does not prove innocence--only that the prosecution has not yet justified taking the case to trial (they may be able to produce new or better evidence at a later date). If there is an indictment, that does not prove guilt--only that the prosecutor will have a chance to present their case to a judge and jury. This is only the first step in what may become a very long legal process.

Thou shalt not save for thy retirement, for thy Governing Body needeth the money, and thou shalt be poor in the purse as well as in thy spirit, and verily, the New System shall arrive ere you attaineth the grey hairs of retirement age.
