Though improved over previous versions, it still seems to not be made to last (my opinion, based on one my son-in-law had stored in my garage for a while). Paper quality and weight are mediocre, covers are light weight, etc. It is a bargain bin special, not Grandma's family Bible being passed down to later generations.
Then again, my Gideon Society pocket sized NT-Psalms-Proverbs is 40 years old and still in good shape--not bad for a freebie handed out on the campus quad!

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

I'm aware of one, a DF/DA brother of a Witness in my ex's congregation. The service was at the funeral home instead of the Kingdom Hall, but was presided over by an elder. He read the obituary from the newspaper verbatim, then gave the usual Funeral Talk. There was no mention of the death being a suicide, even though that was known via the local gossip channels. Overall it was a very depressing affair, though I am glad I was there to offer sympathy and support to the family.
Edited to add, "What can we do about it?" I have taken (and recommend) the Mental Health First Aid course. It isn't about teaching you to be a counselor, rather it's about how to recognize those in need and encourage them to seek appropriate professional assistance.

Yes, I loaned it to him. If he had asked for $1000, I probably would have found a way to loan it to him.
Congratulations, you now are the channel of "Jehovah's Loving Provision" (for him, that is)!

Thick whole wheat crust, a good well-seasoned sauce (not sweet, ketchup-like swill!), mozzarella, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, peppers, onions, black olives, mushrooms, anchovies, topped with plenty of pepperoni. If a cardboard pan can support it, there isn't enough good stuff on it! Serve with a spinach salad and good beer.

Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Baker Who Refused to Bake Cake for Gay Couple
by Simon inseems like such an obviously correct decision to overturn the previous overreach - it should never have been necessary to go to the supreme court but happened because the rights of the religious were being ignored.. as the fundamental level, no one should be able to compel you to work for them or to provide services that go against your beliefs, and certainly not have the government be able to force you to comply.. if this was allowed there would be so many unreconcilable situations that would clog up courts over nonsense.. i also have little patience for these activists that intentionally look to be offended.
it really doesn't do their cause any good to go round looking to make trouble for people.
it's also misguided because it ends up strengthening religious rights over effectively stupid issues.. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/04/us/politics/supreme-court-sides-with-baker-who-turned-away-gay-couple.html.

Does he refuse to make Halloween cakes...
As a matter of fact, he will not make Halloween cakes. From NBC news:
"I don't create cakes for Halloween, I wouldn't create a cake that would be anti-American or disparaging against anybody for any reason, even cakes that would disparage people who identify as LGBT,” he said. "Cakes have a message and this is one I can't create."
The narrow Supreme Court ruling ruling in Phillips’ case applied to the specific facts of his case only and gave little hint as to how the court might decide future cases involving florists, bakers, photographers and other business owners who have cited religious and free-speech objections when refusing to serve gay and lesbian customers in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2015 same-sex marriage decision.

An important consideration was that the state commission made different decisions in other cases, and made statements regarding the baker's religious beliefs in their case. After the state made the original decision, some religious folks went to homosexual bakers and asked them to make a biblical theme cake decorated with scriptures declaring sodomy to be sinful. The bakers refused, the customers went to the same civil rights commission, who in this case upheld the bakers' right to not make the cake because they did not like its message. The decision may have gone the other way if the commission had consistently ruled that no business could refuse a customer request (subject to other lawful restrictions: libel, obscenity, etc.).

Here is an article talking about William Miller's Great Disappointment and a utopian settlement established by one of his followers, Peter Armstrong. The author's statements reveal several similarities between the Millerites and their successors, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society:
- Founded in Pennsylvania
- Founder William Miller "... decided to offer his own interpretation of the Bible, and while doing so, amassed a number of followers in mid-19th century United States."
- "Following a period of studying the Holy Word, he concluded that the
Second Coming of Christ was imminent and that it would bring with it the
end of the world in the form of a battle of good versus evil. Miller’s
musings were largely based on Daniel 8:14: 'Unto two thousand and three
hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed,' which he took as
meaning the cleansing of the earth by fire."
- Predictions of the End Times did not come to pass (1843-1844)
- Pacifism and opposition to the draft (US Civil War)
- Publication of The Day Star of Zion (note similarity to Russell's original Zion's Watch Tower) and Banner of Life
- When Armstrong started his religious colony "The land itself was deeded to 'Almighty God, who inhabiteth Eternity, and His heirs in Jesus Messiah,' thus making it God’s own property" (similar to Beth Sarim and Beth Shan being deeded to the Old Testament prophets.)
Rather than being the sole true remnant of the true christian faith, WTBTS is preaching a variation on the same failed story. Adding insult to injury, the article does not even name WTBTS as successors to Miller's teachings: Seventh Day Adventists made the cut, but JW.org did not rate a mention!
