It would be nice if this forum went back to the basics
by nowwhat? innot to offend or impose my opinion.
but simply i would like to see just news and insights from the local congregation to the top organization level of: downsizing, closings, c.s.a.
personal experiences, unscriptural doctrines of the org.and direct commentary of the above.

Should Voters Be Made To Prove They Are Eligible To Vote?
by minimus ini believe that just because someone shows up at the voting booth, it doesn’t automatically qualify them to be legitimate voters.
i think it’s not unreasonable to provide proof that you are qualified..

And to answer Minimus: I cast my ink-on-paper ballot on election day, at the poling place, after showing my current, DHS-approved, state drivers' license. The same card I need to board a plane, buy booze, rent a car, cash a check...

Has it ever occured to anyone in the USA that your country is just too big to manage as a fair democracy (in terms of people numbers not land mass) and maybe the whole federated states thing is becoming tricky to manage?
The US constitution does not charter a democracy per se. It establishes a federation of states, each of which is a republic with elected officials (not a pure, direct democracy). This is to temper the passions of the moment, reducing the opportunity for tyranny where a slight majority can oppress a slightly smaller minority. Reflect on our recent elections, and you can appreciate the wisdom of this. Congressional "gridlock" between House and Senate is not a problem with our system, but a feature: distribution of power so that no one part of the government has total control (except, perhaps, the IRS!).
Fairness is in the eye of the beholder. That is the reason for limitation of government powers, and for subsidiarity: making government decisions at the most local level possible, not by bodies far removed from those the decision affects.

"Psychiatrist is an Admission of Defeat"
by new boy in“the christian witnesses of jehovah are the best oriented, happiest and most contended group of people on the face of the earth.
so why on earth would any good follower need the help of a mental health professional?” the society tells about the evils of seeking help from outside their organization.
"as a rule, for a christian to go to a worldly psychiatrist is an admission of defeat.

Sparky, Jack Daniels #7 is a bit too pricey for a full-time pioneer trying to survive on a part-time job. Rot gut "well drink" whiskey is closer to their price range!

Serious Issue ....... that MUST be Addressed !!!!!
by Simon inthis is such an important issue, more and more people are succumbing to what must be some viral outbreak wreaking havoc in the world.. i'm talking about unnecessary punctuation.. it's easy to become infected.
you want to write something and add some emphasis so you add an exclamation mark to make it "important!
" but dang, it's not important enough is it??

I usually use the Oxford comma, but sometimes the sentence has the same meaning and flows better without it. For all commas, I consider how the sentence should be spoken. When a pause before the "and" preceding the final listed item is appropriate, I include the comma. Where the intent is conveyed better as a continuous stream, I omit it.
Paul's letters may be the ultimate reference on commas and full stops: use his run-on writing style as an example of what to avoid!

Though improved over previous versions, it still seems to not be made to last (my opinion, based on one my son-in-law had stored in my garage for a while). Paper quality and weight are mediocre, covers are light weight, etc. It is a bargain bin special, not Grandma's family Bible being passed down to later generations.
Then again, my Gideon Society pocket sized NT-Psalms-Proverbs is 40 years old and still in good shape--not bad for a freebie handed out on the campus quad!

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

I'm aware of one, a DF/DA brother of a Witness in my ex's congregation. The service was at the funeral home instead of the Kingdom Hall, but was presided over by an elder. He read the obituary from the newspaper verbatim, then gave the usual Funeral Talk. There was no mention of the death being a suicide, even though that was known via the local gossip channels. Overall it was a very depressing affair, though I am glad I was there to offer sympathy and support to the family.
Edited to add, "What can we do about it?" I have taken (and recommend) the Mental Health First Aid course. It isn't about teaching you to be a counselor, rather it's about how to recognize those in need and encourage them to seek appropriate professional assistance.

Yes, I loaned it to him. If he had asked for $1000, I probably would have found a way to loan it to him.
Congratulations, you now are the channel of "Jehovah's Loving Provision" (for him, that is)!
