  this article is kinda ridiculous with all the things the pope is saying, trying to save face like a bad politician.

  how does any of these answers make sense when you think of someone as god's spokesman.

  Membership of the Catholic Church is necessary for all men for salvation

  That is a misleading generalization. Membership in the church is necessary for those who know of the church and its role in salvation. Salvation is denied to those who know the Church's role and willfully reject it; those who do no not know but nevertheless live upright lives can attain salvation. The official teaching of the Church (edit: I see BTS quoted this too), is in articles 846 and 847 of the Catechism (source: Vatican web site, emphasis: mine).

  846 ... He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.

  847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:

  Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.

  Is the World really getting worse?

  the world is becoming a less and less hospitable place in which to live.

  it seems with news of every earthquake, every natural catastrophe, every epidemic, every atrocity, and every disaster manmade or otherwise, there is the inevitable shaking of the finger and stern proclamation, "see?

  I don't think things are worse than ever. That preception has more to do with all bad news spreading around the world while good news is often ignored, making things look much worse than they are. Death, evil, corruption, and catastrophe sell newspapers and boost TV ratings. Good news is "boring". One murder is front-page news and covered by every national network. A story about high-school students using their vacation to help out at disabled children's center won't make it past the local paper's coverage area.

  As others have said, comparing what we have now to my great-grandparents' lives as 19th century immigrants, I would not want to trade places with them. Appropriate to this season, I am very thankful to be living in this place and time.

  in chapter 7 of the new elder book, page 98, a subpoint of paragraph 20, dealing with the matter of reproof, it is written "the judicial committee may have specific reasons to believe that the congregation needs to be on guard concerning the repentant wrongdoer.

  perhaps he ignored previous counsel several times concerning steps leading to the same wrongdoing.

  for example, in a case involving wrongdoing that could be viewed as child sexual abuse, announcing the reproof of a repentant wrongdoer will serve as a protection for the congregation.".

  Sick little boy!

  my 10 year old grandson is in the hospital with really high blood pressure.

  he has a urinary tract blockage which is affecting his kidney function,which resulted in the high blood pressure.

  his dad, soonernc7 and his mom are with him now.

  I'm back! How is everyone today?!

  sd-7, casper, isaacaustin, alltimejeff, bluecanary, chalam, snowbird, flipper, etc.. i haven't been on here for a while and just wanted to say hello.

  share some news.... i'm pregnant with my first baby boy.

  i haven't been going to the meetings very well recently just cause since the baby i hate living a fake life while having the responsibility of being a respectable mother.. my grandmother on my dad's side along with the rest of that side of the family wants nothing to do with me until i am a jw again and i know she still loves me and still thinks of me just has a bad way of showing it because of the shunning rule.. my jw mother and jw grandma on my mom's side are the only ones i will allow to see my baby freely because they know what true love is and still talk to me and treat me normal.. my sister i don't know what to think but i pretend she just lives to far away and has her own life.

  As a JW, what did you do on Christmas Day?

  growing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.

  it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.

  (however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.

  While married to my JW Ex, we went to the zoo on Christmas a time or two. "Apparently", every patron in the place was a Witness known to the Ex or ex-in-laws. Who else besides Witnesses go to the zoo on Christmas? If not for the staff having to come in and tend the animals anyway, they probably wouldn't bother opening.

  i always found that one particularly laughable.. the jw's would always look for plaudits because they don't christen/baptize infants.

  as if they are free thinking pioneers of christianity who let their children come to their own conclusions.. no, they don't baptize their children.. yet,.

  they would be happy to make a life & death medical choice for them before they are even old enough to think for themselves.they are happy to have their children 'fight the fine fight' on their parents behalf all the way through primary/high school.

  They may not be baptized, but they're old enough to go knock-knock-knocking on strangers' doors. So which is worse: baptism by water as an infant, or losing every Saturday of your childhood and youth giving sales spiels to people who aren't interested?

  I celebrated my birthday today for the first time!

  i didn't really have a party or anything, but people at work know that i'm no longer a jw and they got me a birthday cake.

  my birthday is not until the 28th, but my co-workers always celebrate anyone's b-day on the 3rd wednesday of every month.

  i've been giddy all day over it, though every once in a while, i'll remember how disappointed in me my parents would be.
