Now more than before, broadcast news is the product of ratings whores. "If it bleeds, it leads", and never mind that all the publicity they shower on one psycho killer encourages a dozen more copy-cats.

If we could travel at light speed, would travel be 'instantaneous' for us??
by Bad_Wolf inthis might be confusing to think about.
we know that as you approach the speed of light, time slows down, if you were in a spaceship, time goes by quicker on earth.
we also know that distances between planets and such are measured at 'light years'.

...time would stand still for someone traveling at the speed of light.
Considering the speed of light relative to what frame of reference (an appropriate pun in this context)? As Intrepid Spaceman Spiff accelerates to light speed (relative to us) and red-shifts into invisibility, he would seem to stop aging as observed here on Earth. But our inter-galactic hero experiences ordinary aging in his own frame of reference.
It all follows from there being no special reference point in space and time from which all measurements are made, and the total energy of the universe being independent of where you are and how fast you're moving when you measure it.
The models of Special and General Relativity seem strange and counter-intuitive, but they work, which is why they are accepted.
Project Gutenberg has an online copy of Einstein's own explanation, which is comprehensible to non-experts.

Smuggling
by lastmanstanding inthe international assemblies are on... and the missionaries are coming home... and leaving richer.. i have, in all seriousness, been told by a co that the missionaries going home have large sums of money hidden in their luggage as they go back to their assignments.
.
he related how one couple was almost caught with the undeclared cash as they passed through customs.. this has been going on for quite some time, the watchtower using missionaries are mules.. i bet with all the kingdumb hall sales the pace has picked up..

Are you an actual witness of this? If so, tell your story to the authorities. If not, it's hear-say (that's the legal term for "gossip").

9mm Ruger SR9c
I'd go with their Blackhawk .357, loaded with hollow points. Being a single action revolver it's virtually jam-proof, and the sight of those rounds peaking through the end of the cylinder sends most would-be assailants running without firing a shot.

How Should Houses of Worship Protect Themselves Against Shooters?
by minimus inis there a way?
these madmen go into soft areas knowing they only will have firepower to inflict their damage.
i think people better start thinking ahead about what they can do to protect themselves..

In the case of Poway, an armed congregant (an off-duty Border Patrol officer) ran the killer off, body armor notwithstanding. The agent fired on and hit the get-away car, but apparently did not harm the perpetrator. Moral of the story: mass shooters are, at heart, bullies: aggressive chickens who quickly flee any victim who offers meaningful resistance.

Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Ever Do Anything For Anyone But Themselves?
by minimus ini was thinking of how witnesses were always admonished to take care of their own before they should ever help a worldly neighbor.
i don’t think they ever do anything for the community unless it’s a benefit to them..

The only hope for an "apostate" in need is a non-believing parent. They know who will help them, and who won't.

"Never stop your enemy when he's making a mistake" - Napoleon
by JeffT inso yesterday when i went to the library there were three older gentlemen in suits standing around the front door.
i spotted the stand with the magazines a second or two later.
they were talking among themselves, totally ignoring everybody walking past them.

When I left about twenty minutes later they were still talking to each other and ignoring all the potential converts walking past them.
I think this is the the cart witnessing version of "the Pioneer Shuffle", going through the motions with as little effort as will be tolerated.

by TerryWalstrom inwhy hadrian built a wallto m.r.g.a (make rome great again).
it was and ever will be known as hadrian's wall.. hadrian’s wall stretched across northern england, cutting britain in two.built in the 120’s a.d.. the dimensions of hadrian’s wall are staggering.hadrian’s wall was more than just a “wall”.
it was a complex of forts, lookout towers, and castles.. when new, the height of hadrian’s wall reached 20 ft. (6.096 meters).. the wall was 10 ft. thick (3.048 meters)._____background.

“He came to Britain. He reformed many things. He built a wall--the first to do so, to separate the
RomansScots from the Barbarians.”There, fixed it!

I use Android with Chrome, but the process is similar for all devices. First perform a full power-off and restart. Then (before visiting any web site) clean the browser history, including images etc. but saving your login IDs and passwords (most cookies are safe to keep; but .jpg, .mpg, etc. files can contain scripts to hijack your browser--those are what we're trying to shut off).
