Babygirl, the truth (according to me) is that it will take a Loooong time for them to change, if ever. I am very sorry to hear about this. Many will tell you that any family that shuns you doesn't deserve you. To an extent, that is true. There are a lot of nasty facts you will face. There's just One thing....they are your family! That makes it so much more personal and hurtful. Have you thought of counseling? Your family may change for the worse, but hopefully you will be able to rise above that & cope in a healthy way.

WHY am I the last to know?

i was upset, but accepted it.

I have a question, correct me if I'm totally off base here: The witnesses think it's perfectly okay to translate YHWH (I guess they combine it with one or two other words, right?). When I asked a jw why they do this &, more importantly, why doesn't every person simply say YaWeh instead?- the reply was something like 'because everybody has a different language. Your name would be totally different in French or German.'

Nobody calls me from the congregation, which is completely fine. But if I see them around town, they are veRY friendly. I think they think I may still come back, even though it's been many years since I've faded.

Should I Formally Apologize?

i still have pangs of guilt.
yet, on balance, i have to admit that it couldn't have been too damaging as they are all totally out of the cult.

It would probably mean a lot to your kids if you did that, even if they may say "awwww Dad, its no big deal". You would be free of your guilt & they would know that you recognize your mistakes, even if it was because of manipulative cult mind control. Best wishes.

I noticed that too. It's funny how just reading a scan posted on here is enough to bring out the negativity in me. When I was a jw, I felt so DOWN all the time...tired, guilty, & lonely. In hindsight, that is exactly how they like it. It's like they start off telling you of the blessings and joy you will receive. ...and then they throw in there the torment and violent death you and your children will get for not obeying the Faithful & Discreet Slave God.

The person who posted this thread, AKA- ME, may have titled the thread about H1N1, but I was also wondering about the other types of flu vaccines as well. In fact, I just changed the name of the thread to clarify where I was coming from. Just trying to get different views...I'd say its a success.
So, some think it's crazy to get it & others say it's crazy to not get it. I get it. Got it?

by hotchocolate inokay, just to re-introduce myself, i was raised in the truth, regular pioneered for years, and am a member in good standing with my congregation.
i have just recently been shocked to realise that i actually have some doubts about the truth.
it helps for me to focus on one point at a time, and to write down my thoughts in a logical sequence.

I'm researching this topic because I asked a jw: "Was Russel or Rutherford or the Faithful & Discreet Slave considered a prophet?" I received an emphatic "NO, not at all." I know that is not true and is in WTBS literature. Not sure if anybody's mentioned the artice in this thread, but I've got to run. Marking to read later.

by Albert Einstein inafter many years of very active live in jw religion we have thousands of jw related pictures ... conventions, jw guests, jw friends ..... so btw - do you keep yours, or did you get rid of them?.
my wife is still mentally in, so throwing all of them out is not on the agenda, but i dont really want to watch it .... it makes me feel embarassed how stupid i was ... on the other hand, i might want to keep some ... its still part of my life.... albert.

Congrats. But you cannot make a couple of short comments and satisfy us. We want all the goods on this.
I know. Unfortunately, I've actually got to work today, so I probably won't be able to provide a detailed account just yet. (Getting fired probably wouldn't be the course of wisdom.) The last week has been a blur for me so I'm sure it is overwhelming for my wife. I will try jotting down the high points before they are lost to the pit that is my very fallible memory.

Ohhhhhh, this is like watching an awesome movie and waiting for the sequal. That is great for you. What I am curious about (when you return, of course) is how she's been this whole time since you faded/escaped. And what were her reactions when you showed her all this information this past week? Was it all like a Lightbulb moment? or was she nervous? Did you read any of Steve Hassan's books & did his suggestions help at all? Maybe you can post a link to your previous trials during this.
