Crappy sexist WT (no surprise) but damn good thread! All of the point of views are appreciated.
I can totally relate to LongHairGal's experience. Lots of users among the R&F and BOE and often single, working sisters are seen as targets with unlimited time and financial resources. I could write a book on some of the stuff I was asked to do...sigh. I started saying 'no', without apology or justification.
But I think we can all agree that the WT is genius at 'tapping' folks at their prime. Men benefit because for all of their hardwork they get position and respect. Women, not so much.
Misery - At least with being a JW woman, all you have to do is show up and look pretty.
True, just shake off the users and losers, LOL. But this statement could segway into another discussion on the double standards of appearances and beauty in the cong.
Is the WT the worse religion for females to be born into? Not really but it's far from the top on a short list.

Yes i did go through a period of obsession when i woke up. Thought i was having a nervous breakdown, really scary period for me initially. All the mental energy and emotions took a toll, like FF I had a health crisis. Sought out some help and now I fine. I'm still in research mode. But it's not WT focused. As a fader with hardcore dub family, i keep up with all the new stuff.
You are normal. Because of knowing what you know, everything printed in the literature is called into question. Every statement made from the platform or from trusted family is not taken as fact. So you're turning all of this stuff over in your head trying to make sense of it. It's overwhelming at times but i think it's a necessary stage until you are convinced in your mind and heart what the real truth is.

by brotherdan inso i was talking to one of my "apologist" friends, and he just got back from a mormon outreach mission in utah.
he was able to help a 17 year old mormon girl to begin to see the truth and was really excited about it.
he goes to these temple conventions and temple openings all the time to preach jesus to them.. so he was interested in doing that at a jw convention.

At a loss what to do RE: JW family and my kids
by 2pink ini have 2 small kids, ages 4 and 5 yrs and one on the way (via adoption!).
my husband and i faded/suddenly disappeared last fall, never to go back to meetings.
we outed ourselves and told our super hardcore parents/family members that we didn't believe it anymore, were choosing a different path etc.

Will these be unsupervised visits? If so, I would be extremely hesitant to let my kids visit with them without me or my spouse present based on their comments/treatment.
