  Following your heart not right according to JWs?

  i heard in a talk recently that following your heart was one of the worse advice a person can get.

  is this because the bible says the heart is treacherous?.

  anybody else hear that in jw land?.

  "You may have heard the oft repeated advice, “Follow your heart.” But Proverbs 28:26 states: “He that is trusting in his own heart is stupid.” Why? Because “the heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate.” (Jeremiah 17:9; Numbers 15:39) To be treacherous is to be disloyal or false or to be a double-crosser. Would you trust a person who is known as a deceiver and a traitor? Our figurative heart can be devious. Thus, a relationship is not necessarily healthy just because it feels right." - Young People Ask "Why Am I Drawn to the Wrong People"

  There are many more references to the heart being treachorous, but thats an example of their stance on "follow your heart". I think I've mainly seen it (as I said before) in YPA articles and articles specifically for the younger people.

  I've never heard that about raising children around the JWs... but maybe I was not ready to pay attention to that advice when I left? I find it disturbing that they would suggest some of that stuff!!!

  I seem to remember reading that advice on "following your heart" in the Young People Ask book on the topics of dating and marriage.

  if god is outside of nature and therefore cannot be proved or disproved by science, is atheism a form of blind faith?

  after all, it cannot be defended on the basis of pure reason.. steven jay gould said;.

  Atheism is no more blind than any other faith is. An atheist has looked at the world and concluded "there is no God", just as a christian has looked at the world (hopefully) and concluded "there is a God." Both require faith to some extent, but I wouldn't call either of them blind (with the exception of people who made no search and just went with what they're parents told them).

  i have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.

  1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".

  Mom: It would be nice if you were killed in a car accident. Then you could be ressurected into the new world!

  And then there were the constant comments about how I needed to change my ways or be killed at Armeggedon. They didn't notice that I would shut up and quite often start having panic attacks when they did that...

  There was also when I broke up with my fiance and they said it was good because now I can find a wife in the truth (while still making that above statements)

  You should check out a college marching band. My band is two hundred and eighty something players, all on the field playing at the same time. Its amazing... I actually marched during high school. My brother wasn't allowed to, but I knew I was going the music route, and kind of insisted on it.

  If you like marching bands, you should also check out the DCI competitions. They don't have any woodwinds (you can't hear us anyway... though I heard that the clarinets were loud and clear at tonights football game ^_^), but the brass players are the best of the college and high school musicians and marchers. Its really amazing. And if its one of your kids/grandkids in the competition, I'm sure they would like seeing it, as well.

  (Sorry... just had to have my band nerd moment. ^_^)

  I still have nightmares about armageddon and zombies (sometimes at the same time). Does that count? LoL.

  I left, but was never certain that that was exactly what I wanted till I found out about a child molester in my home congregation, who was still at large and had not been reported to the police. At that point, I decided that the JWs were not the true religion, and that even if they were (a doubt that fades every week in me) their god is such a cruel one that I would never go back.
