Local Congregations Convention Today...
by TheClarinetist in...and apparently they all wanted to come into my workplace afterwards for ice cream.
don't know why, but when i saw all the convention badges coming at me, i started to feel anxious, light headed, and nauseous.
fortunately, i managed to hide it well enough to finish my shift, but i'm trying to get someone to work for me tomorrow (when they'll probably be back... heard they were also there yesterday).. .

Anyone have a similar experience?

Since You've Left The Organization Have You Turned Into A "Bad" Boy or Girl?
by minimus inthe witnesses say that if you leave the religion you will become a very vile person.
you will probably get vd.
you will get into drugs and booze, your life will go to hell.. personally, i've been pretty much the same guy although i would now be viewed as a "fornicator".

I don't know any more... I drink, fornicate, listen to bad music, watch bad movies, play violent video games and occasionally partake in dank green substances. Those are things that I used to consider "Bad", but these days I don't know.
"The second half of the answer is easy. If you have a penis, you're a boy. Sans penis, a girl. Presumably."
I dunno... I know girls with penises and boys without.

Has anyone heard about/tried helminthic therapy?
by slimboyfat ini have been feeling very bad for the past few months with my health and i have been looking around for alternatives from what the doctors offer which is surgery or more dangerous drugs.
i came across helminthic therapy, which i had read about before but had not given much consideration to.
interest in it must have grown because there is lot more information available now than a couple of years ago when i last looked.

Any double-blind studies? None of the studies I see referring to this said anything about a control group.
Either way... Interesting concept. Of course, I'd be very careful and look for results specific to my health problem before doing anything... Though you've probably already done that.

Is it ethical to make rich pay more taxes?
by Lore ini'm having trouble getting behind the idea of making rich people pay more taxes just because they have more.. aside from the obvious: "i'm not rich so lets tax them instead of me.
" the three reasons i hear most often are:.
1: they may have "earned" their wealth but they don't deserve it!.

a couple earning $50,000 total ($25,000 each, about $12 per hour) pays 21% combined federal taxes.
A couple earning $50,000 total is not poor. That is above the median household income and almost twice that poverty level for a family of 4. Not saying I disagree with your statement... Just that your numbers don't quite work...
On the other hand: I have an income of around $9000 a year (which I believe is under the poverty threshold... couldn't find it for a single person. If it's not, it darn well should be... >_<) and, after my refund at the end of the year, I will be paying about 5% in taxes, though only social security and medicare.
EDIT: And on Adam Smith - I don't even know who he is, but neither of you have proved your point. His statement was generic enough to work with either tax system... Though from the wording, I would side with the progressive tax.

A progressive tax does the most good for the least amount of harm. From that perspective it is ethical. A 1-2% tax increase on the rich would create the maximum amount of revenue with minimum difference in lifestyle, while decreasing the rate on the poor would hardly matter. However, when you take it much beyond that you might start getting into questionable territory.

We find out who the Alex Kingston character (River Song) is today Mahhhhhhh
I already found out. Was looking on the Doctor Who Meme Generator to find a picture for my post and there were a lot of spoilers. Not too too many... But enough that I have a guesstimate on the big reveals. Sad day.

!!! I'm not alone in my addiction! I'm going to download it and watch it after work tonight, so don't spoil anything. :-P I HATE that there's going to be a several month cliffhanger, though. How bad is it [the cliffhanger]?
I had to go back and watch the first episode to find out exactly when *spoilers* happened to Amy after last weeks. I'm SOOOOO looking forward to this weeks. OMG.
Okay... Now I'm just rambling.

Why can't atheist just prove from the bible that God doesn't exist?'
by Joliette inme and my dad was having a convo this morning.
we got on the subject of atheist and agnostics.
my dad said that didnt understand how a person could be atheist or agnostic.

A couple of things:
1) In order for the Bible to be a legitimate source, the God of the Bible MUST exist. Therefore any proof for God from the Bible is completely meaningless. It may be possible to prove that the God of the Bible is logically impossible, but even if it weren't, it doesn't matter. It is perfectly possible for a work of fiction to be logically consistent. You know it's a work of fiction by comparing it to the actual world.
2) Your father is only including one of many possible God's, all of which have virtually identical "proof" of their existance.
3) Your father also leaves out the possibility that the "True God" is not any of the Gods that mankind has imagined.
EDIT: whereami put it so much more succinctly. LoL.
