The mathematical probability of spontaneous order (no designer/creator)
by Fernando inthere seem to be many prerequisites for life as we know it.. to name a few: order, function, compatibility, availability, sustainability, intelligence, consciousness, intuition and so on.. focusing on only one, namely order.. what are the chances of order arising spontaneously, by chance, with no creator/designer?.
i have often pondered this and recently came across a mathematical summary of the big picture:.
if every particle in the known physical universe (10^80 particles), participated in one trillion interactions (10^12 interactions) per second, for the entire 30 billion years of the universe's existence (10^18 seconds), then we would by now have covered only 10^110 permutations.. if you had only 100 components in a container, what are the chances that a blindfolded person could lay them out in order on a table?.

I'm sorry, I don't follow - could you unpack that for me bohm? -

For me the building blocks and laws of chemistry give evidence of substantial order.
This order too could not have arisen by chance without a designer and law maker - using exactly the same math as before.

The Lords Evening Meal: Partaking and Awakening
by Generation Me inso i chose to attend the memorial last night.
it was a hall i don't usually go to but chose to go there because i felt like it would be the closest.
mind you i am not a jw and was never raised a jw and don't have any family who are jw.

Well done Generation Me.
I believe I get you.
Not everyone will, and that's life.
Blessings

The math seems clear and correct to me.
If anyone could provide a straightforward and understandable explanation of what they feel is wrong with the math that would be great.

There seem to be many prerequisites for life as we know it.
To name a few: order, function, compatibility, availability, sustainability, intelligence, consciousness, intuition and so on.
Focusing on only one, namely order.
What are the chances of order arising spontaneously, by chance, with no creator/designer?
I have often pondered this and recently came across a mathematical summary of the big picture:
If every particle in the known physical universe (10^80 particles), participated in one trillion interactions (10^12 interactions) per second, for the entire 30 billion years of the universe's existence (10^18 seconds), then we would by now have covered only 10^110 permutations.
If you had only 100 components in a container, what are the chances that a blindfolded person could lay them out in order on a table?
The answer is one chance in 100 factorial, or 100!, which computes to one chance in 10^158, an impossibility.
What about only 1000 components?
One chance in 4x10^2567.
What about only 10,000 components?
One chance in 3x10^35659.
What about only 100,000 components?
I don't know how to interpret the Wolframalpha.com result for 100,000! - although I suspect it may be wrong, and that this is the limit for most calculators.
How many components does a human body have?
100 trillion, or 10^14 cells each with 10^14 atoms, which is a total of 10^28 atoms.
So not only is spontaneous order in a human body mathematically impossible, it seems we cannot even calculate the odds (namely 10^28!).
(Legend and example: 10^2 means 10 to the power 2, which is a 1 with two zeros, namely 100)
How do you see the above?

I'm at a loss at how to get thru to my parents. I fear they will die before they will stop shunning me.
by cognisonance inall i want is this: for us to be a family, to spend time together enjoying life.
i don't wish to debate about their beliefs when together.
they can remain jws for all i care.

My personal bias, is simple well thought out questions.
Example: "Dad, although I am not a believer, I have wondered why the Watchtower teaches 'publishers of the Good News' to avoid and hide the "Good News" according to Paul. Something does not add up since more than half the Bible's 152-odd references to 'Good News' are by Paul."
The strategy here is to point your Dad to exactly the mechanism which by design has liberated millions (like Ray Franz) from mindless addiction to religion.

The Bible Gods Word or Mans
by azor ini remember studying this book years ago and how it impacted my belief system.
i no longer believe the bible is god's word.
however i do have a couple of lingering questions on this subject.

As a non-sectarian person who has received the free gift of faith, I have come to believe that the Bible is neither inerrant, nor the word of God.
The word or message of God is the liberating, transformative and living gospel message hidden in plain sight throughout the Judeo-Christian-Muslim ancient or foundational texts, which are canonised in part in the Bible.
As such the Watchtower provides ample evidence that they are contemptuous enemies of the word of God, and are driven by the same spirit as their ancestors the Pharisees.

The True God of Jehovah's Witnesses...Unity
by freemindfade ini was unable to sleep because of my ongoing turmoil with my family and my wife's ongoing naivety about what they are trying to accomplish.
and i came to another thought about this group, the witnesses.
they say "i put jehovah first!!

@freemindfade
I think you have captured and explained the essence of this phenomenon very well.
They call it "unity".
But it is an evil god, who demands mindless conformity.
And a gross perversion.
On a truly rotten foundation of "FEAR, IGNORANCE & LIES".

GB: "Ray Franz was lying, legalism does not lead to a morass of inconsistencies. Legalism is not apostasy either. Trust us. We are 'the anointed' (ho Kristos, or the Christ)". Matt 24:4,5. -

The Memorial - New Covenant
by lriddle80 inso, i went to the memorial tonight.
i've been out for about 10 years, but i went at my husband's suggestion to placate my parents.
i listened to the talk and about 90% of what they said, i agreed with.

If one is blinded to the "Good News" (per 2 Cor 4:4) then it is not possible to "obey the Good News" and to embrace salvation as a "free gift".
It is also not possible to receive the free gifts of imputed righteousness and imputed holiness.
Just how bad is the blindness?
A few simple questions can reveal the darkness followers of the Watchtower find themselves in:
- Please explain the "Good News" according to Paul from your heart (more than half their own Bible's references to "good news" are by Paul)
- What is the gospel in one word?
- Is legalism apostasy?
- Is clericalism apostasy?
- Is magisterium apostasy?
