Dear gods, yes! Leaving that religion was an integral step towards becoming the healthy, happy person I am now.

I'm pretty sure I'll never see my post. *shrugs* Oh well.
The one by Lee L, however, makes me feel better about my own nonexistent post. I'm not a fan of the slight insult (Pavlov's dogs? Really?), but his/her points are solid.

"Is he dangerous?" the young boy asks. "Well, he's a hockey player?"
by dissed infighting an awful sinus headache and not being able to sleep the other night, i turned on the television to watch a movie.. my choice?
"mvp: most valuable primate".
a classic child's story and hockey fans favorite about a chimpanzee who leads a hockey team to the championship game.. will they win it all with jack?

We had some families (mine included) that would attend Sunday meetings with another congregation so they wouldn't miss the football game. Cometitive and violent sports were somewhat condemned, but not to the point where people gave them up or stopped playing them.

I couldn't resist posting a comment, though I doubt it will ever show up on the blog.
I'm glad you were kind to the women who met you at the door. I went in field service as a child only to have countless doors slammed in my face. Disagreeing with or being disinterested in what someone has to say doesn't mean you get to be rude -- and I'm glad you know that.
Still, don't let those nice ladies fool you. They probably don't even know the painful history of the group they represent, as the organization discourages private research of this kind. Jehovah's Witnesses are a high-control group that will have believing friends and family into shunning you if you don't follow the church elders' leads. They have also been known to ignore reported child molesters in their congregations, close facilities rather than provide pensions/benefits for their workers, change their doctrines again and again, and hold their members to different standards in spite of the costs.
I am glad you took the time to be polite and listen. I only hope that you and others like you learn the whole truth of Jehovah's Witnesses and the organization behind them.I did notice how many Witnesses posted responses to that blog entry. Does the F&DS approve of R&F using the internet only when it makes the WTBTS look good?

Does Watchtower Participate in Interfaith Movements?
by cameo-d inquote:.
"... parliament of the world's religions brings together religious and civic leaders from dozens of countries.
the fifth such parliament convened in december in melbourne, australia, and brought together 10,000 "people of faith, spirit and goodwill" from 220 different faiths and 80 countries.

I doubt it. Then they'd have to recognize other religions as valid faiths instead of damning them as the misguided customs of Satan's unwitting followers.

What JW catch phrase DRIVES YOU NUTS!!!!

I can't stand hearing how Jehovah's Witnesses are "God's chosen people" and "no part of this world" -- except when the sh*t hits the fan and one ends up in the newspaper being charged for something. Then they're just "imperfect humans".

Did any of you study the WT lesson throughly without ANY underlining?
by asilentone injust wondering.
it makes me think whoever underlines the wt without going throughly is purely hypocritical.

I highlighted as little as possible. The pages were so thin that a lot of highlighting would show through or ruin the page. I didn't like underlining at all.

Children JW Rejection Statistics
by AggieNostic ini am wondering if my family is similar to yours... i have 2 sisters and 1 brother.
my older sister and i were 5 and 7 years old when my parents joined.
my other sister and brother were "born in".

About 100% here. I faded and changed religions completely. My brother still clings to some of the beliefs out of a sense of loyalty to my mother, but he doesn't live the life.

Now, she calls me everyday to make sure I'm ok. I dont answer the phone because she bombards me with questions and harasses me about coming back to the "truth".
My mother has been one of my most persistent triggers. One of the best things my therapist ever told me was that I don't have to answer the phone when she calls. It's a small, silly thing, but it's helped me gain some control and keep myself sane. I also e-mail her because it's slower than telephone calls, allows me to relax, and gives me time to think about where the conversation should go.
As far as the constant pressure to go back to the "Truth": I finally told my mother that there was no way I would ever go back to that religion. I made sure she understood that I wasn't interested in talking about it with her. She didn't get the point at first. It took me ending a few conversations as soon as she brought up anything JW for everything to connect for her.
Oh, and just in case you haven't heard it enough -- stay on your meds.
Good luck!
