doesn't sound like the JWs had anything to do with it. clinical depression can come from many sources; but the correlation is not in your email.

Suicide article from JW website
by moomanchu infrom the watchtower website:.
mary suffered from clinical depression as well as some other health problems.. however, she was not isolated from her family, nor did she abuse alcohol or drugs.
mary's case well illustrates the point that not all risk factors need to be present for a serious suicide attempt to take place.. .

Can anyone come up with a morally acceptable reason for waiting thousands of years to end wickedness?
by gubberningbody ini can't.. some bar-bet between jehovah and satan balanced against all the evil allowed just doesn't wash..

You people are hilarious!!! Have to admit, as I approach 50, though was in expectation since I was 16 that I might not be in this system past 30, all sorts of doubts and concerns have arisen in my mind. I have friends dying now, from cancer, heart attacks, etc.. so this whole anticipation (love the pic with the birds!!) is almost a wee bit cruel.
Not that I'm saying I'm a truly morally upright person that would just waltz into the new system but when I see my parents in their late 70s, who also were told it would be imminent, my heart breaks each time though they still ardently believe in the "new system". I do understand the challenge Satan proposed to Jehovah and the 1000 years as one day comparison, however, would be nice if like at least some sign were given that people are on the right track and God really is feeling what they are feeling day to day (e.g. shadow going back up the steps when Hezekiah asked for 15 more years of life).
Seems like we are sort of on our own and will die eventually in ignorance not knowing what really was "The Way" or what will come after us or our disposition at death until we actually experience it though we can't let our friends/family know what we've foudn after death, if anything at all.

Sadly while at the district convention (which I have not attended yet but talked to someone who did) they explained the change to generations again, effectively pushing it out further, they also conversely pushed for greater obedience and admonition that the end was soon. Its only very recently where I've just stepped away from it all as the conflicting viewpoints was sort of the last straw for me.
Now I know others who have changed their dates as well (harold camping - family radio, tim lehaye - left behind series of books, etc) and so I know its a difficult scripture to discern. But constantly harping on it sets false expectations, and as one earlier posted stated, makes them lose credibility.

While I understand the prevailng perspectives on this subject, my father is an elder and he definitely would have brought it up to through the organization and if nothing was done, he would have taken it to the police. He takes a much more realistic view of the society acknowleding that as a man-made instituation its open to flaws like any other.
I feel so bad for this victim and any others out there from any religion/organization (e.g. boy scouts), etc. I knew of one molester who would only date women with preteen daughters and he'd always arrange to rape them while the mother was away and "clean-up" any evidence as well as threaten the girls. Thank goodness he got caught on another criminal offense and is doing time now, I sure hope his fellow inmates wreak some revenge on him, child molestation is one of the most despicable acts anyone can ever due and should require, IMHO, a minimum of 20 years in prison/life

My last meeting was yesterday!
by life is to short inok i was debating on doing this post but here it goes.
i have not put down my whole story on this board but enough for everyone to know that my problem with the "truth" is sex offenders.. i have fought and fought the elders and they win.
they will allow child molesters and i cannot stop that.

If its any comfort; my father is an elder and has been bucking the trend so to speak, trying to bring a more pragmatic approach to the congregation he was assigned to. Its been an uphill battle for him and will probably continue to be but he was able to get support from the CO so they are working upwards to the DO and down to the other elders in his congregation. Its not necessarily related to the sex abuse issue but its that same mindset of not using common sense to address an issue.

Hi Desi,
The brother I studied with said it wasn't important as well; that we don't serve Jehovah just because of looking to get a reward/everlasting life but rather, out of love. I told him I understood that, but some people make life choices as well as it framed our thinking. Like for me, I always thought of never seeing my parents die and now I have to address that all these years later. Similarly, some couples didn't have kids but rather said they'd wait until the new system.
He said he understood but again, it should be out of love that we serve. So I have another meeting wth him this week but yeah, no one wants to at least acknowledge that its not just a trivial thing. I imagine those in 1975 had the same issues. I'll post here the outcome but I know it puts this brother in a tough spot, I'd rather see the FDS acknowledge it at least in their magazines.

I empathsize. Although I'm not married (divorced), I've been around the Truth since I was a child (am 48 now), and I guess I was a bit unnerved in 1995; but seeing the change in 2008 was troubling and I guess this last overlapping interpretation was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I still believe in many of the core teachings, but I texted the brother I study with yesterday and told him I no longer believe in the FDS. I can't understand how you can be spirit-directed but be wrong on such a core belief. And secondly, this re-interpretation makes no logical sense.
Its confusing/frustrating now as I do not know where to turn and am at the point of leaning towards agnosticism. So I empathisize with anyone who has been impacted by the change in teaching; I wish you the best desi.
