Thanks for sharing your experience. Many publishers don't realize what goes on behind the scenes, unless you have a family member that's an elder. I have two brothers, both had serious problems with fellow elders, different congregations, different elders. One left the "truth" for awhile, but is coming back, and the other one just went to another hall. And I also can identify with having doubts over the years, but filing them away, hoping for new understanding, or new light. And I was always a little uneasy with vague, and simplistic answers to deep subjects. But, thanks again for your experience, it was quite interesting.

Why Would Someone Like me Leave the "Truth"? Part 5 (Final Installment)
by cantleave inthis is a direct continuation od part iv.................................... you can imagine the reaction of the people who saw me storm out of the hall but what happened in the elders meeting after i left was even funnier.

Anybody Know What Presiding Overseer's are Being Told at Bethel School ?
by flipper ini guess there is a special training school going on for presiding overseers according to my jw mom.
my elder brother went back there for a week training session .
he explained that they are doing this training first in the united states only for presiding overseers and if it works out well - they'll implement it across the world in other countries.. apparently he stated that the training they are getting is very detailed and to the point.

Well, my presiding overseer went to the elder training school a few months back. I wish I would have paid more attention to his comments about it. The only thing I remember right now, is not quoting others in our comments at the meetings. For example, someone will comment,.... " I remember a few years back a circuit overseer, saying such and such.... " . Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful. I'll try to be more alert to any "elder" talk.

Did Jarka get disfellowshipped yet?
by EmptyInside ini don't know why this crossed my mind today.
but, i'm rather curious if a convicted murderer, jarka in this case, got df-d. i mean if murder isn't a disfellowshipping offense, i don't know what is.
a few weeks ago i related this case to my brother, who is an elder.

Yes, thanks for posting that blondie. It makes me feel sick inside. A friend of mine had the same experience in the hall she grew up in, fortunately, he was disfellowshipped. Of course, that was after many years and even one too many victims. And he isn't in prison where he belongs, but we have actually seen him at conventions.

Should a Christian see the movie "AVATAR"?
by skeeter1 ini give the movie a 6.5 score.
the scenery was wonderful, but the plot was not zipped up well.
it sort of follows the story-line of "dances with wolves", but in space.. .

I think I might see it, just because there is an Aussie man starring in it. It's a weakness of mine.

Hi All,
I don't know why this crossed my mind today. But, I'm rather curious if a convicted murderer, Jarka in this case, got df-d. I mean if murder isn't a disfellowshipping offense, I don't know what is. A few weeks ago I related this case to my brother, who is an elder. He hadn't heard about the case, as most the friends around here haven't. And I asked him if Jarka could be df-d without their being two witnesses. He guessed that there must have been a judicial meeting. But, if he didn't confess to the elders and with the two Witness rule, that he couldn't be disfellowshipped. My sister-in-law was there, and she was pretty shocked at the answer. I jokingly said, "Well, I hope at least he was made to step down as an elder."
But, the case crossed my warped mind today, and I was curious if anyone had any updates. Thanks.

Is There Any TV Show That You Wished Was Still On?
by minimus ini know a lot of people were upset when mash ended.
i never was a big fan of the show, probably because it was on a meeting night, but it was a very popular show.. i loved hill street blues, taxi, all in the family, the rifleman, even superman!
i wished those shows never stopped!.

Everwood, it was my favorite show of all time. I got so involved with the characters and it was about the father/son relationship and other family dynamics. It had depth and got quite emotional. It lasted four seasons and I am embarrassed to admit, I cried during the series finale.

List of Prominent JW Urban Legends...
by Tuesday inhey folks,.
i'm wondering if you all could help me with my next video that i want to put up in the next couple of days (though i'm hoping for tonight), i want to come up with a list of the most prominent urban legends surrounding jws and then refute them whatever they may be.. i'm thinking there's the urban legend about the question on jeopardy that said the nwt was the most accurate would be a good one.
that one stems from an online powerpoint presentation named theological jeopardy and a book which was written comparing six different translations of the bible.

I also heard the one of the warlock/hairdresser who told the Witness that since their children died in the flood. They were going to get as many JW children on their side as possible, so they would die. And I also heard the ones about pets actually talking out in service telling their owners not to listen to the Witnesses or let them in the house. I wonder where all these rumors started. I heard a lot from my ex-sister-in-law who was from New Jersey. Maybe it was just her, but she seemed to think that people from New Jersey had some direct link to Bethel . Which always led me to the conclusion that these rumors started with some very bored, young Bethelites. Oh, and let's not forget the hidden pictures in the Watchtower. My sister-in-law had us looking upside down at the Watchtower, so we would see a skull drawn in a sister's skirt by some apostate Bethelites.

Were you a JW that "bend" the rules?
by Mr. Monday Night ini knew a few jws (including some of my family members) who would go clubbing, concerts, play sports ,watch rated r movies and go to party's with "worldy" people.
at the same time, managed to live life in the "truth" (such as field service, give talks, hold the mic during the wt study, etc.).
were you one or knew a jw who was like that.

Well, I'm here aren't I? lol. And yes, I watch any movie I want. And I go to concerts, but that's not a big deal around here. And I have df'd friends on facebook, and yes I'm on facebook.
It's bad enough that growing up as a Witness there was a lot I couldn't do. But, now, it seems they have started to eliminate the things that used to be JW traditions so to speak. For example, there used to be skating parties. A lot of young ones would meet that way. My brother met his wife that way. But, now, you're not supposed to have large gatherings. But, as far as I know, nothing bad happened. The same on going skiing on Christmas day. You would see pretty much everyone from your circuit there. Not anymore. Same reason. I remember when I was a teenager at the convention all the younger ones met at a special meeting place, the infamous Gate A. Well, they didn't like that either. It really has gotten ridiculous. Now, if one wants to meet new people, it's suggested you sign up for a quick build. No thanks. Ugh!

Or even just go out to see a movie. One that's light-hearted and fun, and you'll be around a lot of people. Or better yet, invite some friends who may be able to go along.

I'm speechless. But, I wish I could share this with others at the hall.
